Couric and Lauer.........what a boost for Obama!!??

HERE is an article about Katie Couric leaving CBS and talking to NBC's Matt Lauer about doing a talk show host together starting in September 2012.  A glitch in their proceedings is that Lauer's TODAY SHOW contract is up only at the end of 2012 and she needs to get her show up by September.
Lauer's pretty capable, but imagine that the experts in this field feel that  "....NBC can be counted on to make perhaps the biggest offer in television news history to keep him at “Today.”   Really? MATT LAUER is worth that much?  WHY?

What caught my attention is what a boon this could be for the Left.   Neither Couric nor Lauer have ever shied away from displaying their liberal politics in sly or overt ways so I'm guessing this could be, for the Democrats, a fantastic couple of months of free advertising/campaigning just in time for the 2012 November election.

Check this out from the above link:
In 2006, Mr. Moonves looked to do the same thing for his news division, which was still battered by attacks on its former anchor, Dan Rather.  (odd that he's now considered 'battered', huh?  After the lying he did against Bush, remember? Don't look now, but I think Bush was battered, not Rather?)

Here's even a better paragraph you must read:
“I think she was really resurrected by the interview with Palin. It was a game changer in the campaign,” said Ms. Muller, who is on the committee that gave Ms. Couric a Walter Cronkite award for her impact on the 2008 election. “I think it really, really showed us what she is capable of. I play it for my journalism classes when I teach interviewing techniques.”    A journalism prof shows Couric's interview of Palin, who most think did so badly in that interview....imagine the 'lesson' that gives the sycophantic students!  I loved that one...oh, but there IS NO BIAS IN JOURNALISM THESE DAYS, right? :-)  (yes, a lot of sarcasm there!)

Here's my bigger point:  I wonder if the DNC would pay NBC enough to get Lauer out of his contract?

ya think?

Lauer's already on the payroll, if you consider Obama's national socialist acquisition of NBC via its parent company General Electric.

I agree with you Z but I wonder how much help the media is going to be this time around. Notice his poll numbers (on just about any question) don't vary much anymore. I think this means that people have decided whether they like him or not.

I think the public is making their mind up about Obama and the media could wind up looking like idiots by trying to hyper-inflate him.

Yep.

Damn, I'm worn out with the mainstream media -- and on so many levels.

I NBC is trying to keep Matt Lauer on Today because the network wants to keep its #1 ranking on morning news. Losing both Meredith Viera and Matt Lauer, back to back, would probably damage the show immensely. It's about ratings, I do believe.

A MSM propaganda dream team?

Sadly, I am not surprised. Not at all.

There was no game changing. The republicans offered up pablum. It often appeared that McCain agreed with President Obama more than he disagreed!

Most folks don't vote for a vice president, they vote for a president.

I agree with Chuch;I think the public is making their mind up about Obama and the media could wind up looking like idiots by trying to hyper-inflate him.

The public HAS made up it's mind and the public already thinks that the mainstream media look like idiots.

The race is the republicans to lose this time around.

There's nobody in my circle of friends that watch that show, and some ARE liberal.

The right may have command of the facts, but the Left has command of the narrative (what the facts are interpretted to mean).

More on when effect gets mistaken for "cause".

Making the facts fit the narrative.

Or, as my grandfather was fond of saying, "Life magazine is for people who can't read, Time magazine is for people who can't think."

Think the Democrats REALLY to $38 billion in cuts to their pet projects? Best think again.

FairWitness said...

Scotty, I don't watch that show either, I watch Fox & Friends while getting ready for work.

Couric & Lauer would make a good team for Democrats, but I don't think it would be any more powerful than the liberal media already is. In fact, ratings for the MSM continues to decline, while Fox News continues to gain marketshare. I don't care who the liberally biased press packages together, the public isn't going to buy it. Journalists need to report the story, not slant it or outright lie about the facts. Otherwise, they're just liars.

YOU KNOW, DUCKY, I'M ACTUALLY BEGINNING TO BELIEVE THAT YOU REALLY DO THINK THAT. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE AT GEEZ DISCUSSED TEACHING PEOPLE TO THINK, NOT BE INDOCTRINATED...FROM EITHER SIDE?
DO YOU REALLY COMMENT THIS OFTEN WITHOUT READING ANYTHING???
DO YOU KNOW THE 'FRINGE RIGHT' HAS NO VOICE AND MOST OF US AGREE WITH THAT AS MUCH AS WE'D AGREE THAT THE 'FRINGE LEFT' SHOULDN'T HAVE A VOICE, EITHER, EXCEPT NOW WE HAVE A PRESIDENT ON THE FRINGE LEFT?

Z said...

TODAY has a large viewership, of course, and the political bias is effective; as is that of Oprah or Letterman.

Some of my readers don't think that's important or effective but they're people who THINK and don't actually believe people like Letterman and Oprah have any answers or should have the little shame they do in insulting people half this country admires.
Pretty amazing! We used to have journalism profs who taught fairness and accuracy.
Boy, THOSE were the days! :-)

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Z,

You know the drill. Today for Ducky only "the fringe right" has a bias against Obama. Tomorrow for Ducky, Obama will be "the fringe right."

If Ducky had something pertinent to say, he would have already.

Z said...

Beamish....you have such a way with the truth and with words!

You all hearing that Pakistan's telling us to stop drones? And won't give us a VERY high level Al Qaeda nab? And that we haven't had ONE high level terrorist in our hands since Obama came to office?
If we stop drones, we need to get ALL our guys out of there......oh where are the American "PUPPET LEADERS" when we need them?

I'll bet the left's happy....but not so much when their families are killed because we couldn't get information we should have....this is devastating; I guess it takes "the fringe right" to understand it.

Countries are pushing US around now, folks......only since Obama. Must feel good to the 'hate America first' left.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

What?

Barack "Bomb Pakistan" Obama and his imbecilic Secretary of State have finally lost Pakistan's cooperation against al Qaeda and the Taliban too?

It's just as well since al Qaeda is focused on taking down Muammar Gadhafi and stopping global warming now.

Ducky's here said...

Well,z, it's clear that the fringe right is in an ideological struggle and they have NO interest in solving problems. None.

They are merely the American Taliban who demand we live under their version of revealed truth. No opposition is permitted.

When people like Palin and Trump are your leaders then you aren't demanding a lot and you certainly aren't interested in credible solutions.

This nation is so pathetic that the likes of Matt Lauer is considered a reporter. The MSM, whatever that is. In fact it is nothing but a tag phrase. It has as much rational meaning as anything else in the right wing world. A world that cannot tolerate a discouraging word about the likes of a lightweight like Sarah Palin.

Speedy G said...

btw - Anybody besides me believe that the only reason Obama used hunter-killer drones was because he no longer wanted to detain and interogate prisoners at Gitmo?

Ooops, THAT's probably one of those "fringe right" opinions that the American people shouldn't concern themselves with...

At least we have a moral compass. You and those like you could decide tomorrow than anyone you don't like should just go away. Uh-huh. You're the ones no one should take seriously. Watch much Chris Matthews lately?

Calvinist are taking over the world and can't be taken seriously because they're like the Taliban. bzzzt bzzzt

I'm sure Beamish could outdo that one.

elmers brother said...

Besides duhkkky the left has much more in common with the Taliban. I'm sure the left would turn over Bin Laden for some carbon credits, so let's compare:

Religious Practice
Al Qaida/Taliban: We tolerate you as long as you practice in private
Kos Leftist Taliban: We tolerate you as long as you practice in private
The Right: Religion can be practiced anywhere, including public spaces

Religious Freedom
Al Qaida/Taliban: Forbidden in Koran
Kos Leftist Taliban: Forbidden in Constitution
The Right: Inherent part of Christianity

Kos Leftist Taliban: The religion of the State is Atheism
The Right: no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

Equal Rights

Kos Leftist Taliban: Different punishments depending on race
The Right: Equality before the law

Al Qaida/Taliban: No
Kos Leftist Taliban: Ok, as long as you, you know, don't offend anybody.
The Right: Ok, as long as you don't incite to violence or criminal acts

Terrorist States
Al Qaida/Taliban: Good
Kos Leftist Taliban: Not any worse than U.S.
The Right: The enemy

Terrorists
Al Qaida/Taliban: Freedom fighters for Allah and against Imperialism
Kos Leftist Taliban: Freedom fighters against U.S. Imperialism
The Right: The enemy

Religious Law
Al Qaida/Taliban: Koran and Sharia only source of law
Kos Leftist Taliban: Religious law is ok in other countries because it's their culture
The Right: Secular governments for all countries

Human Rights
Al Qaida/Taliban: Human rights are a Western construct
Kos Leftist Taliban: Human rights are a Western construct and only applicable to Western countries
The Right: Human rights are universal

Blame America
Al Qaida/Taliban: Blame America first
Kos Leftist Taliban: Blame America first, ask questions later
The Right: Give America benefit of doubt

Versions of Events
Al Qaida/Taliban: When facts are in dispute, believe terrorist version
Kos Leftist Taliban: When facts are in dispute, believe terrorist version
The Right: When facts are in dispute, believe U.S. soldier's version

Torture
Al Qaida/Taliban: Good if we do it, bad if you do it
Kos Leftist Taliban: Bad if we do it--because we're the only ones that do it--oh, and every time you feel uncomfortable that's torture.
The Right: Bad, but most of what passes as torture is not actual torture.

One World Government
Al Qaida/Taliban: Support a one world government (caliphate)
Kos Leftist Taliban: Support one world government (UN)
The Right: Supports present nation-state system of sovereignty

Child Molestation
Al Qaida/Taliban: Ok, just marry her first (Aisha)
Kos Leftist Taliban: Hey, kids are sexual beings too
The Right: Immoral and disgusting

Religious Symbols:
Al Qaida/Taliban: non-Islamic religious symbols must be destroyed (i.e. those Buddist statues in Afghanistan)
Kos Leftist Taliban: non-Islamic religious symbols must be destroyed and defaced, preferably with public funds.
The Right: All religious symbols are OK, even if displayed on public property like a park or courthouse.

Wait a minute, Ducky. I'm nearly as confused by what you might mean by this as you would be in trying to get mottled speckles of colored crayon wax out of the gaps in your teeth.

"American Taliban?" Are you leftists trying to insult us by offering to sit down with us and pay us not to attack you?

I'm looking for Taliban style beheadings here in the good ol' USA, and the closest I can see is that young Marxist down in Arizona what shot Rep. Gabby Giffords in the noggin.

So where's this restriction on you mouthing off your typical leftist stupidity at, anyway?

Speedy: you said "btw - Anybody besides me believe that the only reason Obama used hunter-killer drones was because he no longer wanted to detain and interogate prisoners at Gitmo?"

I had the same thought, yes.
And his lefty base doesn't like to have AMerica bring bad guys to justice; it hurts the left's feelings.

SCOTTY: I think you're highly optimistic with thinking it's the Right's to lose. Also, someone just emailed that Trump's thinking of running as an Indie, for which I will campaign LIKE HELL against him. We don't need a Perot with an even bigger ego, as my friend said in his email.

Ducky: you said "Well,z, it's clear that the fringe right is in an ideological struggle and they have NO interest in solving problems. None."

NOW we know your problem; you literally are NOT listening to anything but the left. Wake up, Ducky; the Right is all about solving problems, not passing them on to future generations, not putting us into total debt to China, not appeasing to the world; May not be your liking, but we're Americans busy trying to fix the mess you liberals have created.

Elbro, that YOUR list? Fabulous and compelling to anybody who can read and actually THINKS.

Beamish, what the hell IS "Bzzt bzzt'? !!

I'm sure whatever Obama want's Obama get's, when it comes to the SRM(state run media).

If Lauer is considered that important to the show, he'll be on it.

Jeffrey Immelt is the CEO of GE, and GE owns NBC, and Immelt is working for Obama as we speak as head of a jobs commission, which I have no doubt, is a do nothing group which sounds important, but has no impact on jobs creation whatsoever.

I don't know if the deal for Comcast to buy NBC, has gone through or not. But I doubt it makes a difference. They're all in Obama's corner in any case.

None of the details matter as far as I'm concerned, the SRM are in control of the propaganda, regardless of who the mouthpieces are.

Corruption knows no bounds. There are too many who will sell their souls for a buck, and to walk in the hallowed halls of power. Even if they're bring up the rear of the parade.

Z said...

Elbro, hasn't the dentist noticed what you're doing as he works? :-)

Pris...you're so right about the SRM...what a bunch of sycophantic, dishonest shlubs. Sometimes, one says something fair and I almost fall off my seat.
