The oldest man in the world has died. His secrets for a long life are:
• Embrace change, even when the change slaps you in the face. ("Every change is good.")
• Eat two meals a day ("That's all you need.")
• Work as long as you can ("That money's going to come in handy.")
• Help others ("The more you do for others, the better shape you're in.")
I thought they were wonderful and we all should read them....If you want to read more about Walter Bruening, click HERE.
Here's another good thing Mr. Bruening said "Everybody says your mind is the most important thing about your body. Your mind and your body. You keep both busy, and by God you'll be here a long time."
Mr. Bruening's mind DID work. Ol' Walt was a Republican. :-)
Rest in peace, Mr. Bruening....
Do you have any secrets for a long life you'd like to share?

Long life? I'm still trying to figure out the don't sleep with anyone before marriage / don't marry someone who snores dilemma...
:P
I do find it interesting that most antiquarians warn whoever will listen about the dangers of war. Breuning may have been a Republican, but he didn't think much of GWB:
"He got us into war. We can't get out of war now," he said. "I voted for him. But that's about all. His father was a pretty good president, not too bad. The kid had too much power. He got himself wrapped up and that's it."
I also not that Breuning's views on Hitler:
The man who otherwise preached kindness and service to others acknowledged that he had mixed feelings about the war and the Nazis. He expressed some sympathy toward Hitler.
Interesting, huh?
How about what he said about Carter?
According to Trumpster Carter, GWB amd Obama are the worst president (s) in history
He can't seem to make up his mind
See Drudgereport
Good genes and not violating God's laws to any great degree (death is the wages of sin, that's the formula. Avoid sin, stave off death.) I suppose diet might have something to do with it but really not as much as is claimed. I read of a woman pushing 100 who ate bacon every morning. Ever since then I don't worry about eating bacon. My sins may kill me, not the bacon.
Trump (R - wicked bad hair day) was on rabies radio dishing on Auntie Condo Rice. Rather enjoyed it.
Trump's turning into a "say anything for a sound bite no matter how ridiculous" kind of guy.
No he wants to re-litigate the Bush administration?!
We've already got a bullshit artist in the White House. Keep your day job, Trump.
Beamish, you're a nut!
AOW, didn't read the Nazi thing...sorry about that. thanks.
And yes, I didn't think I needed to highlight the George Bush thing; many Republicans didn't understand Iraq.
Common Sense, I'm not sure I know a Republican who is 100% behind everything Bush did. Or any other president.
Elbro, would certainly disagree with Trump on GWB as being CLOSE to Carter but ya, he can't stand Carter BIG TIME. Who does?
Faith...you do hear a lot of very elderly people who don't take care of themselves....
Ducky, I agree with him on Rice, mostly. "rabies radio"...what would you call that idiotic MSNBC? :-)
Beamish, I don't give a darn what Trump says; He's saying what a lot of people have felt they couldn't.. Freeing Republican politicians to disarm the Leftist media with the truth as well as Trump did Vieira, just to name one, is worth this price of admission.
AOW, I see it now...I can't imagine a man actually saying he was iffy on Hitler in an interview so I'm wondering where the interviewer got that...
The guy wasn't perfect, he liked FDR, too.......but I thought his advice was sound regardless.......
Faith, I tend to agree with you. I believe genes are a big factor, regarding longevity.
My Grandmothr died at age 94. Her sisters, at 92, 100, and 101.
She always said, "everything in moderation", and ate all types of foods all her life. Plus, she never became sedentary, always busy around the house and yard, and maintained her interests.
She read alot, and was a big Dodger fan, and loved it when we took her to the games.
Her mental acuity never waned. She preferred to be around younger people, her family, and never wanted to be engaged with a senior center. She was young at heart.
So, I think for all of us, it's a matter of luck to a great degree, not engaging in self destructive behaviors, and hoping we too, have inherited good genes.
Secret to long life: Keep breathing.
So, Ducky listens to "rabies" radio...who'd a thunk it?
She read a lot, and was a big Dodger fan, and loved it when we took her to the games.

Dad (who lived to 92) and I were always closest when we went to the game. I don't know if it works with other folks.
I'm looking forward to taking my grand-niece to her first Spankees game.
Very interesting. My secret is no secret. It is right in the Bible. Laughter is good like a medicine.
Z,
Just because the man's ideologies were conflicted doesn't mean that he didn't know how to age well! **smile**
"Dad (who lived to 92) and I were always closest when we went to the game. I don't know if it works with other folks."
Ducky, I think it always works when you enjoy and share with a loved one!
Btw, I hope your grandniece will have great fun booing the Yankees. Teach her well! I know I would.
Beamish, you're a nut!
Only one of my personalities have been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. The others are quite sane, thank you.
