My wonderful Connecticut cousins went to China this Spring and wait till you hear what they saw! Their college-going son lived there for four months studying Mandarin along with a bunch of other American kids. He said it was one of the best times of his life. His parents loved their two-week visit with him there, too. The stories were amazing, like the fact that it takes about 30 minutes up an extremely steep and rotting stairway to get to the top of the Great Wall!
But, something really perked my ears up:
In a shop in Beijing (
a city in which guides tell you NOT to talk politics), they saw row upon row of T shirts and coin purses that have a picture of Obama on them and the words
OBA-MAO! My cousins asked how they heck they could do that and
WHY? They said people in CHINA say that Obama's
"MAO'S MOST FAMOUS STUDENT".......My cousins were stunned. The shop owner said
"We here in Beijing think America's more Communist than we are now...we get to keep some of our money now."
I thought that was pretty surprising, especially for a city in which discussion of politics is pretty verboten (for lack of the word in Chinese, I'll throw in some German!).....Apparently, they have no problem talking AMERICAN POLITICS. My cousin's wife showed me photos in that shop ........OBA-MAO things for sale all over the place!
Who'd have thought ......... Even the CHINESE get Obama. Who knew? They're going to get me a coin purse and I can't wait to bring it out from time to time with liberal friends :-)

WOW-maybe it is time to visit China-I have some dear friends of Chinese heritage- who go back there for mission work-
Looks like we need such missionaries here in the US!
Going to construct a travel site-more for getting Patriots together and see such as you have posted...
What do you think!
Carol-CS
OBA-MAO
Yes, the Chinese see the truth whereas too many Americans do not.
Linked at THE ASTUTE BLOGGERS. Will link tomorrow at IBA.
Remember THIS, about the Obamas' first Christmas tree in the White House?
Linked at my site too.
As someone once astutely pointed out, the winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize (Obama) held a state dinner at the White House with full fanfare for the guy (Hu Jintao) holding the winner of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize (Lu Xiaobo) in a political prison.
"We here in Beijing think America's more Communist than we are now...we get to keep some of our money now."
That says it all.
Perhaps hyperbole, but by all appearances, China is more free-market capitalist than we are.
I want my OBA-MAO tee shirt!
"OBA-MAO" would make a great bumper sticker for the poor folks to put on their pickup trucks, too.
OBA-MAO
The president that just keeps on giving ... then taking and taking and taking.
I recall that ornament, AOW.
Why is this not surprising? Of course, Ducky shall be along shortly to flame you.
That's disturbing, Z.
This is a nice message for those mainstream Democrats who think that "D" after their name means something.
CS...I"ve had whole blogs dedicated to this point "Looks like we need such missionaries here in the US!"
We need financial relief for people here, too, instead of all the places we send billions to. Please, God, let us clean up our house and then we can do such good around the world for the needy.
AOW, isn't that astonishing!!
AOW..thanks so much for the links.
Yes, I DO remember Mao in the Christmas tree at the White House. Sad that the media didn't tell America. But, of course, Mao is a big hero these days to our kids, isn't he......
beamish...oh, the irony, huh? :-)
Silferfiddle...hyperbole, but their conjecture/what they are being told. Too bad some Americans aren't being told the same thing; it's time to WAKE UP!
Bob, I can't wait to get my coin purse!
Odie: good one!
Brooke...thankfully, Ducky's otherwise absorbed. It's not just GEEEEZ anymore (HURRAH!)
Pris..that (D) now is what Leticia suggested: DISTRUBING!!
I knew about the mao Christmas tree ornament, but I had no idea of the open sale of OBA-MAO merchandise in China. Thanks for sharing that.
I'm not surprised that obama is considered a marxist in China ... I consider him a marxist.
I sure wish you'd post a photo of that coin purse.
that image is one of the coin purses, Cube........take a look.
I Googled OBA-MAO CHINA STORES or something and BAMMO!
I'll be getting mine next week!!
The picture my cuz had taken on her cell phone was much more comprehensive...scads of T Shirts and coin purses exactly like the image; like CHEZ T Shirts at an American university gift shop :0-)
Oba-mao? Priceless. I'm surprised I haven't seen that particular nickname for Obama before now. My current favorite, next to this one, is Little Lord Hemorrhoid.
When Pravda and now China thinks we're becoming commie, that should kinda be a red flag.
Grandson will be in Beijing week after next for the World Triathlon competition. I am going to have him bring me an OBA-MAO T shirt and a few other trinkets. The libtards in Atlanta will love em. LOL
Thanks for the info on this HUGE opportunity to Tick off a few more Libs!
Tick, you bet! Let me know!
I am getting my coin purse next week! I"ll bet Mrs. Ticker would love one of THEM, too!
Good luck on the Tirathlon to Ticker Jr!
OK, just making sure it wasn't a Photoshop pic.
BTW I have an intense dislike of people who wear Che paraphernalia, too. Ignorance of history or a willful disregard... both make them
look like idiots in my eyes.
"Pris..that (D) now is what Leticia suggested: DISTRUBING!!"
Z, I was going to say DUPED, but I'm sure there are more than these two that would apply.
Pris, good one!
How about DAMNABLE?
DUPLICITOUS?
DERANGED?
:-)
Z, there you go. You got it rolling now!
