My wonderful Connecticut cousins went to China this Spring and wait till you hear what they saw! Their college-going son lived there for four months studying Mandarin along with a bunch of other American kids. He said it was one of the best times of his life. His parents loved their two-week visit with him there, too. The stories were amazing, like the fact that it takes about 30 minutes up an extremely steep and rotting stairway to get to the top of the Great Wall! But, something really perked my ears up:In a shop in Beijing (a city in which guides tell you NOT to talk politics), they saw row upon row of T shirts and coin purses that have a picture of Obama on them and the words OBA-MAO! My cousins asked how they heck they could do that and WHY? They said people in CHINA say that Obama's "MAO'S MOST FAMOUS STUDENT".......My cousins were stunned. The shop owner said "We here in Beijing think America's more Communist than we are now...we get to keep some of our money now."
Who'd have thought ......... Even the CHINESE get Obama. Who knew? They're going to get me a coin purse and I can't wait to bring it out from time to time with liberal friends :-)
