Here's an amazing realization we should all give a lot of thought.
Applaud the people in the Midwest, they're not complaining and getting little for it....but more rain. Pray for them. This is a good news story about America's best, people who take charge of their own lives in the face of real devastation. Good job, DD2...and thanks.

My husband's job took him to parts of Indiana last week which had sustained flood damage, and when he got home some of his first thoughts were that no one was whining for the gov't or for trailers.
Folks are simply rolling up there sleeves and getting to work cleaning up, not bellyaching about how George Bush hates them.
brooke,
Yes this is the American way. God bless those folks. Real Americans don't play the victocrat part, they just get to work.
It's called pride.

Yet another great blogger, thanks for the link. I posted a comment on that one.
It only goes to show the breakdown of attitudes from different regions of our great nation. I am waiting to hear the reaction from the "chocolate city" after the next big hurricane. It will be Bush's fault all over again.
That "Spike Lee Joint" he produced about the disaster was a disgrace.
I did see DD's post and you are right it was a really good one.
I try to never miss his stuff.
By the way your blog is very good as well.
Keep it going.
Sgt. Major, thanks SO much for coming by and for your kind words...I sure hope to see you here again and I look forward to reading your blog, too. I enjoyed what I just saw. We're surely on the same page.
AND, most importantly, thank you for your service to this wonderful country. When I THINK of what the soldiers from WWII would be thinking if they suddenly came back to life into OUR society, it hurts me...wouldn't they be sad.
Visited DD2, Z.
Thanks for linking to him, it was a great post.
I met someone from Indiana recently who had suffered flooding. So much destruction....
in the middle of the country, people don't walk away from people or drive by and think "i don't want to get involved" - they stop and take care of you. they wave when you drive by.
one of my neighbors is bringing us supper this evening after they found i'd broken my ankle.
our neighbors to the south had a baby this weekend - we're making them supper tomorrow night.
one of the ladies on the hill was having a difficult time maneuvering her weedeater yesterday, so nancpop went up there and did it for her as her husband was mowing.
this is a time like no other where neighbors need to come together and help one another.
helping our neighbors may be the last vestige in american culture. Lord knows everything else has gone out the window - what are we going to be known for in five or ten years?
nanc, I must admit we have that here, too, but probably not as much as you do.. It's so nice, the real America. You're right about this being very American; Mr. Z is always amazed when he sees this kind of helping here in our community; Germans are just more private, you wouldn't dream of imposing yourself, but if they know you well, they'll give you their right arm.
I saw some helping in France, too, but again, people are more private there and no desirous of others knowing their business. weird.
The news this morning from the flooded areas is SO terrible.....and the rain keeps coming. BUILD AN ARK!!!
We sure do need one....figuratively if not literally.
Thanks for the link "Z"
btw, your post on Morgan writes on Jewish voters...a MUST READ
