I read a book about 2 years ago that described how the west had been snookered about the AIDS epidemic. It was eye opening.
Can we go back to calling it GRIDS again?
It may be over, but good luck trying to get governments around the world to stop funding and pushing sex education and teaching toddlers about safe sex and that gay sex is perfectly normal.
Kudos to Michael Fumento, "The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS" author who wrote upon the subject and was universally vilified more than 13 years ago...
Outside of sub-Saharan Africa IT NEVER WAS A THREAT TO THE REST OF US! Even there the numbers have been terribly skewed, long story.

FJ-My late and I got that book back when it was first published. Even spoke to Dr. Monteith, who was blasting every org. in sight over the absolute pc treatment it got.
A friend from college, who went to work for the Orlando health dept., was disgusted and troubled over how it was NOT handled! It never was treated like an STD, so it got out of hand, in certain "populations".
That pandering has caused a lot of headaches and heartaches since!

I read about this yesterday and all I could do was shake my head. More millions, billions of tax dollars down the drain over politically correct propaganda. Today's boondoggle developing is the climate change scam. All the millions being made by the likes of Gore and others plugged into hedge funds and 'green' companies. What a crock.

I don't believe his senate testimony on this subject was at all covered by our mainstream media and I'd say this is a pretty darned big story!; anything THEY don't want to hear doesn't get to our ears, comrades.

I would not be so quick to believe this. We are told to believe half of what we read and none of what we hear. So true.
Studies done in the early and mid '80's proved AIDS was around for ad least a century. Samples kept from unknown deaths by the CDC comfirmed in the early '90's that AIDs could be traced as far back as the 50's. This disease has been around for thousands of years.
What made it explode? The Love Generation of the sixties - intravenous drugs and free sex.
This guy is off base on so much and many of his facts. [I read the book] Having been a part of the medical profession I find it irresponsible that people continue to spread innuendo and lies about AIDS.
Layla, why the lag between the Sixties and the eighties, when it really became rampant among gays here in the States? I think the more important point is how very, very few heterosexuals have caught this disease, running against the HUGE HUGE "Sky is falling, we're ALL going to get it if we have sex with ANYONE, even straight people!" fear mongering we all experienced.

TMW..good input. It's rather typical to hyperbolize...about 25 years ago, I dated an OB/GYN who stopped his TIME MAGAZINE subscription when they warned Americans that herpes was the next big scourge! BE AFRAID, be VERY AFRAID! People DO exaggerate for the story (and grants$$$).
In fact Z, there may be evidence that AIDS and HIV are 2 separate diseases!
Though both are found in monkeys, and in sub-sharan Africa, monkeys are eaten, and monkeys bite humans...so do the rats, which may be the HIV connection. Along with, possibly, Ebola.

the book I read described how I believe the UN had mislead the West in an attempt to subsidize Africa, with the scare that there was going to be so many people there dying of AIDS that there would be a negative population growth. Yet the population in Africa grew.

Some experts believe that treatments of AIDS patients with DNA chain-terminators and protease inhibitors prescribed as anti-HIV drugs prove that HIV causes AIDS.
There are several problems with this hypothesis:
1. DNA chain-terminators were designed since the 1960s (long before HIV was discovered) to kill human cells in fighting fatal cancers, at the high cost of near fatal collateral side effects. Among the side effects of DNA chain-terminators are immuno-deficiency, weight loss, fever, mouth infections, dementia and pneumonias - all now AIDS-defining diseases.
In contrast to short term prescriptions of these toxic drugs in conventional chemotherapy, these drugs are now prescribed indefinitely against a virus that is long neutralized by anti-body, not even making viral DNA or protein in AIDS patients. Despite the latency and undetectability of HIV in AIDS, even Dr. Gallo could not find it, HIV is now thought to cause 27 AIDS-defining diseases, because Reagan's Secretary of Human Health and Services and NIH researcher Robert Gallo jointly announced at an international press conference on April 23 1984 that HIV is "the probable cause of AIDS".
2. Contrary to the devils advocate's claims, there are no long-term survivors of indefinite anti-HIV treated AIDS patients: Nureyev, Arthur Ashe, Randy Shields, Rock Hudson, Liberace, Ryan White, Kimberly Bergalis and many more all died on anti-HIV treatments. Indeed one physician argued that, from his own experience at UC Davis and UCSF, "The only anti-viral drugs we had were AZT and ddI (both DNA chain-terminators). Most of these unfortunate patients died of AIDS."
That physician could not name one survivor. Why not? Why have one million HIV-positive Americans survived HIV since the virus was first detected in the US? Why do 33 million HIV+ people live without treatments all over the world? Why has the so-called "AIDS-stricken African population" exploded from about 400million in 1984, when HIV was discovered to be in 25% of that population, to 650 million now?
3. Several hundred American and English orthodox AIDS doctors have recently published in The Lancet that anti-retroviral therapy has not translated into decreased mortality. The article goes at length in more legalistic than scientific language to suggest that it has not increased mortality. (The link will be posted on ModCon).
4. Contrary to the HIV-AIDS hypothesis, over 50% of all American and European AIDS patients now die of liver, heart and kidney diseases - none of which are caused by HIV according to CDC definition. But these ARE the classical diseases of drug- and chemotherapy-related toxicity.
