Food Stamps and $2,000,000?

Think our government's not quite right on many things?   You're right.
But check THIS out................a Michigan mans won $2,000,000.00 in the lottery and is still taking food stamps.  Legally.  Driving around in a new Audi convertible.  (at least he has great taste in cars, aren't you glad you bought him one?)   Check out the paragraphs in italics from the link:

Eligibility for food stamps is based on gross income and follows federal guidelines; lottery winnings are considered liquid assets and don't count as income. As long as Fick's gross income stays below the eligibility requirement for food stamps, he can receive them, even if he has a million dollars in the bank.

“If you’re going to try to make me feel bad, you’re not going to do it,” Fick was quoted telling to WNEM-TV on Monday.  Fick, 59, from Auburn, also said on the TV interview that more than half of his winnings went to taxes and about $850,000 was left to him.
Meanwhile, Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, said he already called the DHS and made an inquiry about Fick’s case but the department said their office is just following the federal regulations.  (Z: yup, just doin' our job, yup)

Ya, so they're now looking into this.  How do you feel about it?  Wouldn't you have thought that common sense implies that WHEN YOU HAVE TONS OF MONEY, YOU DO NOT GET FOOD STAMPS ANYMORE?  Here's how I feel:

geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeZ!!

for years I have been against the 'food stamp' program--it is gvt run socialism!

I cannot coutn the number of times I have been behind females w/expensive vehicles in the parking lot and wearing very expensive clothes and jewelry-counting out their food stamps to the cashier...

BTW-I used to work at the family store in Detroit-where ADC (Aid to Dependent Children-in other words-women having babies out of wed-lock to get gvt $$$) and et al were really in the works-
Taking those food stamps personally- was heard and I was a young semi-liberal at the time!
We all know what has happened to Detroit (houses for $1)...and to Michigan as a state...
Go socialist communism!

Get a clue Christian Soldier. I'm sure getting food stamps is not what most aspire to. But nice way to slide a bit o' racism into your posts. Lol!

...if there were no social welfare system.

Bd,

Christian Soldier didn't mention any race. What made you think in terms of race?

Bd .......you said "Get a clue Christian Soldier. I'm sure getting food stamps is not what most aspire to. But nice way to slide a bit o' racism into your posts. Lol!"

"LOL"? Beamish is right; who mentioned race? Are you that racist that just the mention of food stamps brings up RACE? Which one? Don't all races, creeds and colors get food stamps or do you only blame one? :-)
WOW, BD....you really showed YOUR colors (pardon the pun)

Not to surprise you but I posted on this also.

I would feel sleazy if it were me.

I guess one of the questions here is is there no pride anymore?

Z, I used to have guilt feelings about having battles of wit with the unarmed...

I got over it!;-0

Bd, does make it so easy, does he/she not??!!

Z said...

Chuck, I'd feel SO sleazy, too.
(can't believe how often we post the same thing)

Scotty...good point, but, it's kind of fun. This race thing really got me and Beamish; talk about who's a racist.

Bd also accused me of lying when I told him on a post below somewhere that Bush had tried to get Fanny Mae and Mac to wake up and stop the things they were doing that he felt would cause housing problems! I just linked two articles; there were hundreds.
All we can do is try to teach, right? ;-)

I came to the conclusion, long ago, that there are some that are just unteachable.

As it's been said here before, it's a mental disease, if not that it's certainly a lack of maturity.

I must admit that some people that are completely disabled need Food Stamps, but when I see healthy, young or capable middle-aged, people collecting Food Stamps, that makes me angry.

And like Christian solider, I have also seen people paying with Food Stamps wearing designer clothes, jewelry and expensive cars.

If a person on welfare or Food Stamps comes into a lot of money, it is time to cut the purse strings completely.

That man who won should be ashamed of himself.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

You'd think that with the number of people on food stamps at its historically highest level ever under the current President that something would be done to cut off people who don't actually need food stamps.

Cutting off this one lottery winner won't make a dent in the 14+% of Americans that live on food stamps under Obama but at this point even symbolic efforts are acceptable.

elmers brother said...

47 million Americans on foods stamps...and simply mentioning it makes one racist...can anyone say strawman. BD you're becoming like most leftists here, kings of the red herring.

Z said...

beamish, the point isn't that this guy's money'd make a difference in the food stamps program!

Elmer's Bro....isn't that something? :-)

Leticia, I agree. I've seen that myself. In Germany, the illegal immigrants get a lot more money from welfare than ours do and they drive Mercedes, etc.

It's a tyranny of the minority..pure and simple. we're at their mercy because of the leftwing.
You're right, Leticia, some people deserve and need assistance; most do not.

Good grief over 50% in taxes, he might as well stay on food stamps, seeing as how obama is going to tax the crap out him and his winnings.

Z said...

MK! You DO have a point!!

Z,

beamish, the point isn't that this guy's money'd make a difference in the food stamps program!

He's just one of some 47+ million Americans on food stamps. Clearly as a lottery winner he need not be on food stamps, but removing him from the dole still leaves 47+ million in the program.

How many are there that shouldn't be?

How many are there for the first time ever, due to Obama's economic meddling, who'd gladly get off food stamps for their old job back?

Guy shoulda took the 25 year annuity payout ($80,000 a year over 25 years), paying taxes on $80,000 per year living comfortably on $50,000 / year throwing the other $30,000 into the stock market and metals. Invested wisely, in seven years his stock dividends could have him raking in an additional $80,000 a year taxed at the lower capital gains rate.

But he had to be rich today instead of tomorrow...

Ok Beamish, tell me about Obama's economic meddling.

okay

Unemployment has risen to 10% and pretty much stayed there since Obama passed a $787 Billion "stimulus" spending bill in February 2009. Keep in mind that by Obama's own projections and warnings we'd be at 7% unemployment right now if his stimulus package WASN'T passed. Keep in mind that by Obama's worst case scenarios that we'd have gradually reached 9% unemployment by February 2010 if his stimulus package DIDN'T pass.

Keep in mind that the reality of Obama's "stimulus" has made unemployment spike to 10% by June 2009. We're worse now than what was projected to happen if Obama didn't get his agenda passed.

What was that Democrat slogan in 2006? Had enough?

Without Obama, unemployment would be less than 7% right now. And Obama needs unemployment to continue to rise in order to keep inflation in check as he prints more dollars.

There's a point of diminishing returns to Obamanomics, of course. when inflation hits hard during first Quarter 2012 (this fall) we're going to wish we had jobs in a money printing press, as they'll be the only ones hiring.

Beamish, I knew instead of facts you'd only come back with conjecture. The fact is Obama has crated more jobs in 2 years than Bush did in eight years. Bush killed our economy and handed it off to Obama who did what he had to, to stave off a depression.

I swear the right would rather allow the economy to slump into a depression rather than give Obama any credit for its recovery.

He saved GM and was criticized. Can you imaging if he had let an American icon like GM go down the tubes.

Stop being obtuse.

Z said...

BD, I just GOogled and saw where you got your information....all leftwing blather.

By the way, each side has perfectly good information supporting 'their guy' and his job creation (I'd say "their boy" which is what I'd normally say, but you'd call me racist so I avoided it!!)

Obama's people counted the census workers as JOBS. They also said that they may have to freeze pay or fire 800,000 "nonessential" gov't jobs. These are the jobs WE DON'T NEED, get it?

Look, if Obama's "creating" SUSTAINABLE jobs, GREAT! We'll all applaud him! I don't call census workers, nonessential workers and new summer job workers JOB CREATION. We need businesses to be optimistic again, we need corporations to HIRE, not be taxed to death, we need SUSTAINABILITY.

Thank God we have companies like FORD which survived without stimulus money, huh?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Beamish, I knew instead of facts you'd only come back with conjecture.

It is not conjecture that unemployment has risen sharply and higher than Obama said it would have if the stimulus were not passed.

It is not conjecture that unemployment has risen sharply and higher than Obama said it would have under his stimulus plan.

Obama said his stimulus plan would curb unemployment. In fact, it has exacerbated it.

The facts:

No stimulus = April 2011 unemployment projection at 7%

Obama's pitch for stimulus = April 2011 unemployment projection at 6.5%

Reality = April 2011 unemployment at 9%

We're not doing as well as Obama said we'd be doing if we did nothing, and we're not doing as well as Obama said we'd be doing since we passed his stimulus.

The fact is Obama has crated [sic] more jobs in 2 years than Bush did in eight years.

Where are these jobs? Were they crated up and shipped to China? Brazil?

If Obama has "created" more jobs in 27 months than Bush did in 96 months, why is the current Obama unemployment rate 2 to 3 percentage points higher than it ever was under Bush?

Why are more people below the poverty line under Obama than at anytime in US history? Why are 14 million more people on food stamps under Obama, if the economy and jobs outlook has improved?

It's quite simple to explain why your argument doesn't match reality actually. It's because your argument is full of shit.

Bush killed our economy and handed it off to Obama who did what he had to, to stave off a depression.

With a $787 Billion stimulus package that remains over half unspent?

Look, Bd, I know you're a leftist and can't help but to demonstrate your idiocy in everything you say. I'm sympathetic and aware of the tragic level of imbecility that leftists suffer from. But you're going to have to rise above being a blithering idiot or willingly accept me dealing with you in harsher terms.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Bush left office with a net employment gain for his 8 years of some 1.1 million new jobs created.

Under Obama, as of September 2010, some 3.3 million jobs have been lost.

To correct Bd's argument, it's far more accurate to say that less than 2 years, Obama had already killed 3 times as many jobs as Bush created in 8 years.

My long reply to Bd has disappeared. Twice.

This is one of the many reasons I'm done with Blogger.
