Some things simply never change....get a load of this from 1949

We'd have had a chance if anybody'd listened back then and we didn't have a whole party actually believing we WILL not "run out of cash"..... with the kind of thinking in this old article/poem and less indoctrination through these last years, perhaps things wouldn't have gone as "smash" as they have.  Things are so far worse than most of us think.  America needs prayer, folks.
Thanks, Ellen.

LMAO. To make it better we have the Duck, with his usual miss the whole point of the post, to prove this last bit right.

I guess I'm a little confused with the overall theme of the poem though. This system of government has worked so well in other countries like Venezuela, Cuba, most countries of the EU, and all of the former Soviet bloc countries.

I love that poem, especially the last couple of lines.

It is a cute poem, but maddening also.

Because 62 years later, anyone seriously wanting to eliminate ALL entitlement programs will trigger all the infantile pseudo-conservatives (i.e. Teabaggers) wailing like the leftists that they are about how they NEED their government pacifiers.

And thus, the problem never gets solved. And never will be solved, as long as, well, nobody wants to solve it.

The two far leftists seem very lockstep in agreement that the welfare state needs to be defended with insults, hyperbole, and whiny bullshit from the mean ol' nasty thinking people that want to take their gravy train away.

Maybe its a definitional shift. Sad that "words mean something" was a conservative truism. Still is, as long as I'm a conservative.

When you've got a "Constitutionalist" Tea Party House of Representatives abdicating its budgetary responsibilities to a "Super Committee" and a Tea Party dominated "Conservative Political Action Committee" throwing disco parties for gay marriage advocates, are they still "conservative?"

When the five Tea Party favored Presidential candidates (counting Donald Trump, who is making noise about running for President again) include cheerleaders for TARP bailouts, cheerleaders for Obama's 2009 stimulus boondoggle, advocates for dismantling America's military, advocates of raising taxes on all Americans, and advocates of Iranian nuclear weapons research, are we still talking about people favored for President by a "conservative movement?"

I think not.

Do we "toss them off Social Security" while Americans still have wealth to grow and voluntarily give for charitably taking care of them (if they need it), or do we continue tax away that wealth and increase debt obligations to the point we're so bankrupt we can't take care of Granny even if we wanted to?

Hint: the Baby Boomer "make our unborn descendants foot the bill" idea is a $15 Trillion epic fail.

If to be a "conservative" means that I have to cynically whine and moan and demonstrate my envy in constantly begrudging aging granny's their meager Social Security benefits, then by all means call me a left winger.... PLEASE! I don't want to be any such labelled "conservative".

And since no one's going to regulate these new Social Security charities, why not just send 20% of you income directly to my home address? Start today, and demonstrate the "good faith nature" of your case?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

They already exist. Or rather, they did, until churches abdicated their social roles to the government (in fact, HELPED FDR sell his Social Security plan in the 1930s)

A whole bag of "not my problem," he says. "Toss 'em off, let somebody else deal with it."

Wow. Conservatism has a bold new face. Cynicism.

That Baby Boomers are typically docile parasites living under the delusion that Social Security checks are intended to entirely replace whatever income they made before retiring without a hitch really isn't my problem. Maybe that's where they got the idea that a $15 Trillion debt is a net positive, math skills not being their forte.

If that makes me "cynical," it certainly makes the alternative imbecilic.

It's odd that you've taken to seemingly wanting to hurt people and insult them and that you stand STRONG in something that cannot be fixed from today to tomorrow.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with churches (shrinking by the minute) and civics organizations (?) helping.....there isn't anything wrong with payment plans for the sick, like they used to have, either........
but our healthcare has become so outrageously and unnecessarily expensive that even those things won't work.
Meanwhile, the one thing about our healthcare that's the best, our doctors, are the ones getting the biggest shaft. I can't BELIEVE how little my docs get as a pay from Blue Shield, and it's even less than Medicare/ most have to go off and count on private patients....but that's like gambling with socialism ; those rich patients are losing their money because of the stock market these days and are going to lose their shirts if the leftwingers keep taxing them and then where are the doctors? Indeed. But even if you DOUBLED the amount of federal taxes (or converted the equivalent amount into tax deductible charitable contributions through a slick PR campaign) on EVERY American earning more than $500K, you'd only be able to collect about 80% of what the system YOU are recommending eliminating pays in benefits.

Americans are generous, beamish. But tempt them to sock THAT money away for their own retirement OR give it away to others, and the vast majority will "privatize their gains and socialize their losses".

And so even you admit that pouring more money down into your preferred fraudulent left-wing rathole Ponzi scheme from increased taxation on the productive won't even set aside the $125.3 TRILLION needed to cover Medicare's unfunded mandates for the retirement bennies of Baby Boomer deadbeats like yourself.

I hope you squirreled away some of that money you saved from relatively negligible payroll tax rates back in the "good ol' days" for a big Chinese plasma screen TV and high-speed internet connection to watch the economic destruction of the country you hate the most and gave absolutely nothing back to.

And then eleven million Americans currently 90%+ reliant upon Social Security benefits will "fall through the beamish crack".

And 299 million Americans currently not determined to bankrupt the United States by any means necessary will give them a second chance at making something of their unfulfilled lifes with jobs as Wal-Mart door greeters. At a higher tax rate, of course.

Your not ever even approaching paying for a significant part of your "promised" Ponzi scheme payouts "kills" you, not future workers balking at higher taxes to float your irresponsibility.

"Let the grandkids pay for it" is not an option. You've done spent their money.

Speedy G said...

I didn't spend the money. I gave it to the US government in good faith. That THEY piddled it away on the project du jour instead of investing it is an issue you need to take up with THEM, not people like the current retiree's who paid all their Social Security taxes in good faith.

You're demonizing the wrong goat beamish. And you don't even realize your mistake, since you're out to punish all the wrong people. ...and if you were to simply return the "negligible payroll taxes" that I gave the government, I would be MORE than happy, since that "paltry sum" is more than I will EVER collect, let alone accounting for any interest that would have accrued if the money had been privately invested.

You have convinced me of one thing, beamish. I'd be stupid to consent to any changes to the existing system, as you want me and existing seniors to bear all the pain that's coming so as to spare yourself any. If ever there was a reason why this problem has never in the past been addressed and has been allowed to run it's course, it's because each generation wants it all. And your intransigence on the issue leads me to conclude that your generation is no different. I am no longer open to any compromise. I no longer believe it to be in my best interest to agree to any decrease in my personal benefits under the Ryan Plan. The long term solvency of Social Security is just a "whole bag of not my problem". Deal with your debt, infant. You had your chance to compromise and work out a deal, but you overplayed your hand.

"Let the grandkids pay for it" is not an option.

"Incumbents for reform" LOL.

I think you need to read the ruling in Flemming vs. Nestor a little more carefully, commie.

Were you expecting to socialize your losses, hmmm?

They already all, beamish. I was going to help you privatize some of them, but why should I help you out? You've converted me to a conservative fusionism.... aka - "I've got mine."

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Yeah sure Denise. You stepped real far away from your leftist position to stay unmoved.

Tell me, how did your Generation Baby Boomer and your employer matches wind up with a $126 TRILLION shortfall?

"I've got mine."

Except for that you don't.
