Does Obama's background equal McCain's? REALLY?

"John McCain's campaign has been working overtime to ridicule Barack Obama as The One, the rock-star celebrity with adoring fans, the politician with the chutzpah to announce his candidacy in a speech about Abraham Lincoln. So it was a bit surprising to watch the opening of McCain's town hall meeting in York, Pa., on Tuesday." (Z: Thus starts an article in Time Magazine. Here are 'highpoints' of the article, and then we'll talk integrity, okay?)

It goes on: "What's not such a good thing is the way campaign culture tries to slap down candidates who don't seem to fit someone's definition of "ordinary Americans." One would think the presidency would require a rather extraordinary American, but modern candidates are apparently supposed to pretend to be just like us."

Z likes this part: "This is silly enough when candidates are attacked for their wealth or supposedly elitist habits; it's hard to see how John McCain's multiple mansions or $500 shoes detract from his economic plans, and just about impossible to see how Barack Obama's decision to vacation near his grandmother in Hawaii undercuts his claim to economic leadership. But ever since the wealthy Whig William Henry Harrison's brilliant "log cabin and hard cider" campaign, candidates have tried to strike Everyman poses, and missteps that have made them look "out of touch" - like George H.W. Bush checking his watch during an economic debate, or John F. Kerry windsurfing off Nantucket, or even Bill Clinton of Hope getting an expensive haircut - have created major political headaches. (Z: "near his grandmother"..how sweet! and "EVEN Bill Clinton", the superstar, the one they love, EVEN he made a 'misstep' Him? ... and "multiple MANSIONS", can we continue the talk about the details behind the purchase of Obama's mansion?!)

The article continues: "McCain began with an impassioned message about the fighting in Georgia, urging the crowd to care about a "tiny little democracy, far, far away" that might seem irrelevant to their day-to-day lives. "History is often made in remote and obscure places," McCain said. Even if you don't share McCain's bellicose ideas about Russia, there was something inspiring about his appeal to the conscience of the crowd, his insistence that the struggles of Georgians should be the concern of Americans. But the audience just listened quietly, offering only a few subdued golf-claps - until McCain mentioned Georgia's oil pipeline, and called the conflict a new reminder that it's time to do something about higher gas prices in America. Then the crowd erupted, and gave McCain a standing ovation." (Z: how about context with how Russian's involvement in Georgia could affect US in far scarier terms than oil?)

Here's the last bit: "McCain dutifully gave the questioners the you-first responses they were looking for, trying his best to show he could feel their pain. "I probably should have mentioned what you all already know: These are tough times," he said. It was hard not to wonder whether a man who endured such extraordinary pain for more than five years in Hanoi is really as troubled by dropping real estate values as he tried to suggest. But his supporters seemed to appreciate his rather ordinary answers, and they certainly appreciate his remarkable life story; when he was done, he was mobbed by adoring fans."

Time finishes the longer article with: "Wait: A remarkable life? Adoring fans? Clearly, he's unfit to serve." Sarcasm...since Time Magazine believes that being a rock star with little experience makes one fit to serve.

SO. Serving in the military as long as he did, suffering like he did in Vietnam and serving twenty years in the Senate are compared with Obama's celebrity status of having done nothing important in the senate and speaking to Berlin like a rock star? Those are comparable and McCain should be ashamed of himself for suggesting that Obama's celebrity status isn't quite what we're looking for in a PRESIDENT? Having friends like Ayers and Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright (and more) and being the sweetheart of Hollywood celebs is the same as McCain's record of fighting those things Ayers, Farrakhan and most celebs stand for, fighting for those things that are PRO AMERICA and down on communism and racism? amazing. (By the way, this story was on the Yahoo homepage this morning...LOTS of people saw this)

You know, I'm not a huge fan of McCain's and you all know my horribly low opinion of Obama, but does Time Magazine really have this much trouble figuring out what traits and what background make a man fit to run for President of the United States? I don't. You don't, either.

Other than Indian gaming legislation, what have been McCain's legislative accomplishments?

Seems he's just been warming a seat and collecting checks for twenty years.

His statements on the situation in Georgia have been muddled and contradictory. Time comes and he sounds just as dumb as ever.

I'm surprised you don't consider intelligence a qualification for the presidency.

McCain's senate record is mediocre as far as bills. Gaming, soft-money ban, etc. Everyone knows that. I'm not a big fan, by the way. But, no he's done a lot more than warm a seat; he serves on numerous committees and sponsored 573 bills, though most weren't enacted...that's the game in Washington.
I wish you'd pay attention to the point(again), Ducky.

Do you equate someone with McCain's service record with Obama's celebrity pull? Don't you consider intelligence a qualification? Or is it Hollywood aproval?

If McCain's statements have been 'muddled and contradictory' (which they have not), then Obama's must be, too, because he floated some stupid "let's talk" proposal and then realized it didn't go over well and then changed his opinion to McCain's position.

What will he do if he wins? Call McCain for advice? And, as you know, situations like Georgia are FLUID, who the heck knows WHAT to say? It would be better if they both shut up, this isn't their problem yet, anyway.

When you can show me Obama, off teleprompter, and sounding INTELLIGENT, let me know. SO far, he's nothing but garble, 'uhhh..' and blaming someone in the audience for interrupting and getting him off track when he was floundering(again)! It's hilarious!!!

Go pump your tires up, Ducky...Obama's so intelligent!!!

What's McCain's economic policy. Other than support for tinkle down economics which isn't helping the middle class much I don't see anything new from McCheese.

He sure did crap out along with the rest of this administration on Georgia, didn't he. As soon as Saakashvili told McCain to "Move from words to deeds" it seems that Candidate McCheese punked out and now his latest quote is that he doesn't know who's at fault.

The man is a circus clown.

Z said...

I didn't notice the 'crapping out' or that this whole thing's over yet.

Vote for Obama, Ducky...he's a big star, he does a good teleprompter speech, he has zero real experience, he has friends Americans should be scared to death of, he's a liar and an opportunist who uses his own grandmother, his economic plan is to tax corporations into mediocrity because there will be nothing left for research, he can't wait to acquiesce to the great UN, and I'm just positive he'll be there for whites just as much as for blacks.... wait for it.
Plus..he's the GUY! If you don't like what he said yesterday, he'll be changing his mind tomorrow..something for everyone.
you do that. COngratulations.

Yes the tone is snide I admit that, but this seems a very good analysis of McCain's ability.

Warning: It mocks Republicans.

"Gee whiz, Condo speaks Russian. That means she can say things like, "Huh," and "what" and " didn't know that," and "Nobody told me that""

Ducky's here said...

Speaking to reporters about the situation in Georgia, Sen. John McCain denounced the aggressive posture of Russia by claiming that:"in the 21st century nations don't invade other nations."

Unless some ragheads are messing with our oil, right McCheese?

You keep feeling smug, Ducky. Keep ignoring what I wrote about Obama. Stop thinking entirely.
You hate Republicans. we get it. I can't educate you here....

My blog is about bringing information to peoples' attention. You don't have to like it.
And, by the way, when we get some of that Iraqi oil, let me know, okay?

Great post Z. You are so right on.

Like Hillary Clinton said,"I bring experience and substance - all Obama brings is a 2004 speech made at the DNC." I normally do not agree with Hillary, but in this case she said it best and was right.

There is no contest. McCain, like him or not, hands down he is the man.

BTW-thanks for your timely comment at my site. Just know I do appreciate your views and thoughts.

Thank you.

According to some Obama's perfect simply because he is not a Republican in general and not Bush in particular. Obama has his lack of preperation quite well.

Did anybody see Larry King last night? I hear that Jerome Corsi, who wrote OBAMA NATION, was on?

A fairly nonpolitical friend just called and told me the guy from MediaMatters barely let Corsi talk and that King participated in the attacks, and they took NO CALLS. My friend said it was like a 'lynching'....and Corsi kept trying to say "but I have documentation, and please stick to the points and not Bush or Republicans..this is facts" To no avail. The left needs Obama to win and they will STOP AT NOTHING, folks.

I'd love to hear anybody's viewpoint if they saw that interview. My friend was stunned that it was such a major attack on Corsi, that King fought SO hard to get people on who'd unfairly attack the book, not participate in a reasoned discussion.

She said that, later, there were two people, a lefty and a right, and she said "the lefty was some big strong leftist I've heard before and they picked a really meek woman from the Right to debate him on the book."

That's so typical....they'll pick attack dog Paul Begala and 'counter' him with the most milktoast Republican they can find.

i'm seeing her tomorrow and show's loaning me DREAMS OF MY FATHER because some of the quotes she gave me over the phone aren't what we're hearing..and they show SO DEEPLY the conflicted nature of Obama towards his color, including how he was so intrigued with Malcom X's desire to rid himself of his White blood.

She said she can't believe that on ever page there's a race reference.....Obama's SO angry, and THIS is what half of America wants to lead ALL OF US? THAT is scary.

Truthfully I dont think I can stomach either one but Hussein had better not get near our White House if we want to survive as a nation Z!

Z said...

Angel, we WON'T 'survive as a nation'..there's no way.

YOu can't have a country whose leadership thinks Ahmadinejad and Putin, Kim jung Il, and Assad, etcetc are nice guys and just want to be talked nice to! And if we put OUR nukes down, they'll happily do it, too(isn't that PRECIOUS?)

We can't risk supreme court justices who don't understand adherance to the Constitution's the most important thing..not agenda.

We can't risk higher taxes that bring everyone down, including those who are now HIRING the poorer amongst us.

We could go on and on ..but why cry?

Liberalism has created an AMerica where righteousness doesn't count; This isn't America anymore. This is a country who's taught its kids socialism is better than capitalism, where success stories are now considered unkind to the unsuccessful, where someone with obama's NOTHINGNESS is attractive.

All this at a time when being united was never more crucial. When we have outside forces waiting for us to collapse..China, Russia, Islam, etc etc etc. They must be cheering.

That's the Left you see holding the APPLAUSE sign.

After reading the Time article, I'm wondering if they pick middleschool kids to write this stuff. How transparent can one be?
Surely an adult could do a better job. If there are any left in the media business.

Speaking of intelligence.....

"Go pump your tires up, Ducky...Obama's so intelligent!!!"

Great line Z. So funny, pretty much says it all.

I guess what we’re talking about here is “packaging the presidential hopeful.” I find it distressing that people care more about the irrelevant, while ignoring the critical nature of a presidential election. We should be looking at an individual’s demonstrated leadership ability, rather than a hope that he or she has it at a critical juncture. Some call this demonstrated ability “bona fides,” which I do regard as much more relevant than how much personal wealth they have, or how much they pay for shoes or haircuts. Our assessment might also include whether a candidate is capable of making an unpopular decision when it is in the short or long-term interests of our nation. In this regard, a 3 am telephone call may be important … but so too is avoiding one through responsible (and consistent) foreign or domestic policy programs. We want a pro-active president, rather than a reactive politician. At least, I do.

The problem with liberals is that they are idealists. There is nothing more dangerous to a free society than someone who lives in la-la land. Liberals are also think that the solution to every problem is to allocate more monetary resources … but history tells us that government spending contributes to more problems than it solves. Let us simply consider education as one example. How many billions of dollars have we taxpayers provided to a system that doesn’t educate our children? Whether you evaluate the Obama or Clinton campaign both want to allocate billions more to “solve” the problem, but neither one has any idea about what the problems really are.

The liberal agenda attracts people who think they are entitled to something for nothing. They typically have no interest in serving their country or community, but they want the taxpayers to fund entitlement programs to accommodate all-too-often deviant lifestyles. What right does any government have to take money from me in order to provide abortion on demand to irresponsible women, medical care to illegal aliens, or clean needles for drug users? Finally, I find it interesting that American liberals look upon European socialism adoringly, not realizing (due mostly to their innate stupidity) that most European socialist countries are on the verge of bankruptcy. This all fits very nicely into the queue, “Don’t confuse me with the facts, just promise me something to secure my vote.”

Voters should rather emulate the jet-pilot who is landing his aircraft on the deck of an aircraft carrier in the middle of the night; we need to keep our eye on the ball. Let us not allow the press or talking heads to confuse issues or divert our attention. Sadly, both campaigns are speaking to the masses as if we are all idiots (and maybe we are). If I had my way, not a single American would show up to vote on Election Day as a demonstration we are tired of business as usual in the American politik.

Obama's FAR more qualified! To be a community organizer, and buy cut rate property from a convicted swindler. He's got McCain in those categories.

Well, the Obama campaign has launched a 40 page pdf file it seems to attack Corsi, regarding that book.

But, Mr . Corsi and others do have proof about the O's little lies, you see.

Funny thing about lies, they just keep popping up.

I would say McCain has more expeience in his little finger than Obama has on a good day with his "300" team-mates.

Mercy, there are some things that do take intelligence and good sense and moral clarity to qualify one for a job.

I am afraid that the Democrat party is just over run now days by thugs and gangsters.

This whole thing is awful.

The thing that matters most to me in a president is someone putting THIS country first. Period.

Mustang, I'm with you.......But, WE won't vote (we have principles) and everyone on the left will vote for those hand outs; they're not going to vote for someone who believes everyone should work hard for their success!! They even want to tax to death the corporations who HIRE the people who DO have jobs!

Morgan. Obama's a lying dufus.

WV....I saw Rich Masters on H&C tonight talking as loud as he POSSIBLY COULD over Hugh Hewitt. Rich feels that the whole Corsi book's wrong and ridiculous because Corsi once said that Pope John Paul was an old pedophile.

THEN, he says to Hannity "Could we just stick to the BOOK!?" You cna't make this stuff up!

LIES LIES LIES...Corsi does incredible research, screws 2 points up and, to the LEFT, the whole book's ridiculous...

They're so scared and the machine's rolling louder and louder and louder..WE WILL WIN OR ELSE.

I figure they've been grooming Obama (Soros, Ayers, Michelle, Farrakhan, etc.)for 15 years now... they're not going to let this attempt at bringing AMerica to her knees go.

Z,
Someone else has a book on Obama either out already or coming and they say it is far more adept at covering things , with more proof.

I did read some excerpts of Hewitt's points.
He states that Obama admits to repeatedly doing Marijuana ...won't answer to charges of having sold drugs.

He( Obama side) claims Ayers, Wright, are part of the establishment. yes, well, maybe in Gangsta land they are.

These are some bad people, is all I can say.

Forget about the left -right thing, they are just criminals.

So repulsive.

You know, I watched this man, Pat Cadell, back in 2000, after the Bush -Gore adventure, who stated that the Democrat Party had turned into nothing but pure organized crime, with gangsters and criminals.

Boy did he know what he was talking about, and HE is a Democrat.

I can live with other political parties winning elections but gangsters..no way.

This is so bad.

Z said...

It IS bad, WV.

Pat Cadell is a good guy..total Democrat but totally principled; a rare find! He's honest, he's fair.

Yes, I guess Obama won't say he never dealt drugs....who would, if you know people could identify you if you lie. He just constantly says he stopped DOING drugs when asked if he dealt. Sad.

Who really cares WHAT the hell this guy did, really? As long as he never becomes the leader of the free world?

Of course, it won't be 'free' anymore with socialists abounding.

Ducky,

I'm surprised you don't consider intelligence a qualification for the presidency.

Puh-lease. You're the leftist here. If you want to have an honest, respectful, intellectually oriented political discussion, you first need to concede the easily demonstrated, well documented fact that you're a f-cking imbecile.

If intelligence were widely considered a requirement for the Presidency, no leftist would have a chance. Ever.

To me, Obama vs McCain is all but a matter of Incompetence vs. Incontnence.

Neither of them will get my vote.

I have seriously mulled over the elections and my conclusion is this:

Let's say I vote for a third candidate, yet Obama picks it off and wins the presidency. At least the conservatives will have learnt a harsh lesson: Do NOT put up a suspect bleeding heart libtard like McCain as their candidate.

We'll all just have to make the best out of a bad situation.

Nope. Not ever. I cannot, will not, and shall not eat green eggs & ham.

I'm not keen on McCain either but he leaves Obama for dead in several areas any day. Time are shameless with their leftist twist on everything. They remind me a lot of the British BBC. It's all about the choice of wording and what they highlight. It's interesting when you Google on a subject, it's always Time, BBC and Australia's Fairfax Press which come up for page after page.
What they're doing is focusing in on inconsequentials like celebrity status, vacations and wealth when there are so many more pressing issues about Obama, like for instance, is he even legally running? The doubts about his birth certificate haven't been cleared up yet.

Z said...

MK: RIGHT

Steve: WRONG. no offense. America may never recover from ONE year, let alone FOUR YEARS of a man like Obama. You're not listening, Steve..you're not finding out enough about him. Read his wife's dissertation. Read his BOOKS! YOUR PRESIDENT will have said something like "Malcom X wanted to expunge the white blood in him...and that felt so good to me, too"

Your president will have a chance to probably pick at least 2 supreme court justices which have LIFETIME jobs.

The tax situation will do all Americna corporations in and so many people will lose jobs becasue of that and STILL Obama won't figure out WHY.

I could go on and on, but I'm not sure it matters. I can't imagine caring about this country, personally, and voting to make sure someone like Obama wins. I'd NEVER accuse you of NOT loving America, I know you're a fantastic patriot, but I will NEVER UNDERSTAND your thinking....and you're not alone. And the Left's counting on you.

Aurora, Google's COMPLETELY gone. All it lists now is liberal links; I was stunned again yesterday looking something up. OH, it was John McCain's war record. 90% of the links said HE caused the fires on the USS FORRESTALL!! ONE link described clearly what the navy and Pentagon thought happened (NOT mcCain) and that they'd been fearful of such a thing happening and it did. ALL others treated the situation as a fait accompli that McCain caused it.....something I'd NEVER heard of and, something which, if TRUE, would be ALL OVER every liberal rag, right?

that's just ONE example.
