Pots and Panels........SMOKE SOME WEED AT THE DNC!

Panel wants pot smokers left alone during DNC

Aug 20, 2008 5:40 PM (1 day ago) By STEVEN K. PAULSON, AP

DENVER (Map, News) - A panel convened to implement a voter-approved Denver ordinance making possession of small amounts of marijuana the "lowest law enforcement priority" voted Wednesday to approve a resolution urging police to refrain from making arrests or issuing citations during the Democratic National Convention.

Mason Tvert, leader of the group Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation, said officials are ignoring the will of the voters. He said the city still requires violators to show up in court, which he warned could clog the court system
"After the Democratic National Convention ends, there will be hundreds of marijuana cases all showing up at the same time," Tvert said. (Z: WHAT??)

Tvert said based on current numbers, the city is on track to increase that to 1,900 this year, not counting any surge of arrests that might take place during the convention.

DiCroce said police are required to enforce laws, including state laws, if they witness a violation.
"It's certainly not our function to vote on suspending laws for a certain period of time," he told the 10-member panel.
Tvert said the ordinance was not meant to cover public marijuana use.
"We're not suggesting demonstrators publicly use marijuana," he said.
Tvert said conventioneers will be consuming large amounts of alcohol and they should have an alternative. (Z: If they didn't vote Dem, maybe they wouldn't need an alternative to sobriety? I'm only sayin'..)

Lt. Ernie Martinez, representing Denver police on the panel, said police will have bigger priorities during the convention, but police won't give up their authority.
"If something occurs in front of us, we're going to act," Martinez said.
The resolution passed 5-3, with two abstentions.
City officials say the resolution is not binding.
Tvert and his group successfully pushed a 2005 initiative to legalize possession of less than an ounce of marijuana for adults over 21, but the move failed to blunt arrests because authorities continued to enforce state laws. It was patterned after a Seattle law that Tvert said is working.
Tvert tried to pass an identical measure at the state level but was rebuffed by statewide voters.

Admittedly, this is an AP story I butchered so's to keep it legal...I don't want to INFRINGE...but I thought you all ought to see this!! The facts are there, the whole story isn't.

Personally, if I had to attend the DNC convention, I'd be reaching for multiple martinis, but that's just me!! How can they expect ANYBODY to attend stone cold sober. ('Stone' being the operative word with Democrats, apparently, come to think of it~!)

By the way....I saw this story last night, but clicked on my link this morning and it's GONE! (SURPRISE!) so I can't link it for you. BUT, I'd kept the window open and stumbled upon it in my anger that it had been pulled. I HAD IT, and now YOU have it............ Seeems like that DNC convention center will give new meaning to the lyrics; "This JOINT is jumpin'...it's really jumpin'.."

compliments of WV Dottr who went it to my last evening. Thanks!

Yeah, I bet Waller smoked a few fat boys in his day.

Massachusetts is putting decriminalization on the ballot this November. Smart move, why waste time busting someone for a lousy ounce.

Ducky..I kind of agree with you for a 'lousy ounce' but I'm thinking there will be those who have 'lousy ounces' bagged separtely all over the place..who knows. We're losing our moral compass, so let them have their pot, right? thanks, Left.

Throwing stones....you can't make this stuff up! I'm waiting for Republicans to be toking, too....as IF. NOt that some don't, of course, but CORPORATELY? I'm thinking not!!

Morgan...I'd need acid to listen to one more Obama err..uhh........ummm speech!

Well z, it's a matter of resources. Why waste time with possession of small amounts of pot?

The statute still criminalizes distribution weight and possession or sale in a school zone.

Frankly it seems a good compromise.

My guess is that the Republican fat cats will all be doing blow.

Ducky, I take it then you are also against banning and fining tobacco smoking? It is, after all, up to this point, a legal product.

Obviously, a bunch of drunks roaming the halls is acceptable, and no one puffing on a tobacco cigarette was ever induced by same to beat someone to a pulp, but, hey, we'll pretend that doesn't matter.

As a tobacco smoker I really want to know why smoking pot is ok and tobacco isn't! Marijuana is a more potent carcinogen. But, what the heck, who says any of this has to make sense.

Just want to know how the "Democrat Party of tolerance" squares this dicey contradicton.

And then of course there are those pesky "junk" food consumers. Will they be eating rabbit food at the convention? Will they ban Big Macs? Will they refuse to admit the obese to the convention in the interest of aesthetics and depiction of politically correct healthy living?

Oh my, these are the weighty considerations of our time. Not to mention being "Green". Is Kermit the Frog going to speak? Hey, that would be perfect for the Democrat convention.

I guess that pretty much covers it. Just a sign of the times folks,
I'd laugh if it wasn't all so pathetic.

Excellent point, Pris! I would agree, but the libertarian in me truly believes we should let people do what they want to themselves.

I don't suffer from substance abuse problems, thank God, but alcoholism and the likely effects of nicotine addiction, which I have seen many times up close and personal, are about as dire as most things get, so until they ban it ALL–––including fattening foods–––I think they should ALLOW it ALL.

Decriminalizing drugs–––ALL of them–––would greatly reduce street crime. AND a lot of worthless individuals would essentially WEED themselves OUT of existence. (Pun fully intended.)

Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea? Let the wind blow away the chaff.

To hell with The Supervised Society–––except where minors are concerned, of course.

Both can be regulated. Is tobacco over regulated? Maybe but you can't light up a joint in areas where you are also forbidden to light up a red so I don't get your point.

As far as junk food. Yeah, lot's of regulation there. It's nearly impossible to load up on donuts or bacon double cheeseburgers. Again, I don't get your point.

You seem to be coming from some Libertarian sandbox and think it's strictly the bad, bad Dems who want to stop you from killing yourself with tobacco.

Good idea. Let's save the cops for the rioters who are promising to light the city up.

They're just trying to make Obama feel at home. What's wrong with that? ;)

Z said...

thanks, Ducky....pot smoking by Dems at a convention is cool with you but you realize it's a loser with most of America, so you have to suggest Reps are doing coke. typical.

And really, Ducky...if people want to smoke tobacco, so WHAT? There's about as much info saying second hand smoke doesn't kill as there is that says it's lethal, but suddenly we're so crazy we're considering banning it in OUR HOMES?!

Let US decide if we want to take the chance with Tobacco, it's NONE of a legislator's business..

"Smart move, why waste time busting someone for a lousy ounce."

Ducky, You said this I didn't. If you light up a joint and say it's for medicinal purposes, as of now, you can do it anywhere. Medicinal marijuana is legal in California.
Pardon me while I guffaw.

If you're paying attention, then you realize tobacco is gradually being criminalized and pot is gradually being decriminalized.

It's not Republicans who run the city of Los Angeles. The Democrats there have put a ban on any more fast food restaurants.

It is the Liberal heirarchy in public schools who have forbidden cupcakes and sweets even for classroom parties. They want carrot sticks etc. They've also removed all snack dispensers from campuses.

I don't want anyone to interfere with my being responsible for myself and mine. And yes I do have libertarian leanings, because I mind my own business, and am not politically correct.

In California, the Democrats pretty much run everything, including Arnold. So who would you like me to blame for every silly law or regulation that comes down the pike?

FT - until they ban it all? Just give 'em time, they'll get around to it.

There'll always be something that's not good for people. Or perceived to be bad. Personal responsibility is the hallmark of freedom. Whether we like it or not.

Btw my experience being around smokers all my life is the opposite of yours.

It's just a matter of time 'til everyone's ox is gored in one way or another.

I am just waiting for "I didn't inhale" to become a viable defense for the average person. As soon as that happens it is ON!

Groan. PLEASE don't support legalizing pot in any amounts anywhere I might conceivably have to breathe it in. For some reason the very smell of it nauseates me (yeah, even though it's supposed to be a cure for same. Well, we're all different). I smoked it myself once in a while in the 60s and had the usual silly time on the stuff. I also used to smoke regular cigarettes even up to three packs a day for a while. I'm SO glad I quit. But since then I can't stand being around smoke. Weird I know. Otherwise I agree with everybody that people should be allowed to do as they want. The thing about smoke is it travels.

In 2003 the Usual Fucking Idiots converged in Sacramento to protest those HORRIBLE bioengineered foods. The Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology attracted all kinds of organized dipshits and we held them all off, beating them at their own game. We had plants inside their meetings and knew where they would be every hour of every day. We did not only our research but our planning. And YES, I got a BUTTLOAD of O.T. out of these robots. They were SO pissed off and I made SO much money off of them!

Legalize it. It was left-wing proto-fascist Democrats that illegalized it in the first place.

Z,
Pardon the grammatic pedantry, but shouldn't it be "If the mountain were smooth" not "was smooth"?

I should let it slide, but I'm just in one of those moods--the subjunctive mood.

The Dems couldn't give a flying fornication about the general health of the people where tobacco is concerned. They've been engaged in a long demonization campaign against the tobacco companies in order to poison the general public and potential jury pools. It worked!

Now the big tobacco companies are tied to the hip with the government in a perfectly fascistic arrangement for protection. The government bleeds them dry in taxes, the tobacco companies smile and raise their prices dramatically to the consumer! It's a wonderful little arrangement that should make all fascists smile from ear to ear! RJR makes record profits,

Washington rakes in the taxes and buys votes with that money and provides protection to RJR from the sharks (trial lawyers) trying to steal even more from them.

I guess that beats a FREE ARRANGEMENT where non-retarded citizens buy cigarettes at a MARKET-based price and take the chances with their own health. Of course that would mean LESS FASCISM, smaller government, less vote buying, less centralized power, and a bevy of other freedom based ideas that you lefty-fascists cannot tolerate.

Do you actually believe that Dems are motivated by the desire to stop us from killing ourselves? LOL! Think real hard.

Some thought on the Biden pick.

THANK YOU BARACK OBAMA! Boy oh boy was this a desperate and stupid choice! I think this is an attempt to win back real American Democrats who voted overwhelmingly for Hillary in the latter days of the Primaries. I'm referring to those who "cling to their guns and their Bibles." Joe can connect to these people as long as he sticks to a narrow script and shuts his pie hole after that!--

Tio, a mountain COULD be smooth, so I left 'was' (the way I read the quote)
I couldn't say If I was Monroe because I could NEVER be Monroe..but a mountain COULD be smooth, so I left WAS, thinking that might be wrong!
I'm frankly unsure! I wouldn't mind a grammar lesson here and do believe 'were' sounds better, at least more erudite!

Morgan..Joe Biden is an attack dog whoM I've watched in senate hearings and known he not only disagrees with others but bitterly and nastily dislikes them and has no compunction humiliating ALL Americans when he slams those most of us respect; Anything for the camera, anything to look tough and powerful.
He's an entitlement dope who clearly exhibits why Senators should have term limits; he's bought into his own 'fame'..horrid little man.
Obama won't have to look nasty now..he can keep looking like a deer in the headlights (so sweet and pure) and let Biden do his dirty work. I hope Biden works over time; people clearly are tired of his type. And, they are tired of hating their own country and everything we've done, which seems to be Biden's MO.

and Morgan! EXCELLENT review of what the Left does to corporations. It's SO PERFECT, it's Saul Alinsky right down the line; set up Americans to hate capitalism by doing exactly what you describe, then America will finally be shamed into not being AMerica anymore, the message our kids are getting in high schools and universities, too!! I never thought of it QUITE this well thought-out..I think you're right.

Attack the tobacco and pharmaceuticals and oil........make them look EVIL, then tax the @#*$ out of them and we'll lose the American edge because corporations won't be able to afford R&D anymore,no more experimentation, no more years of laboratory research, etc...WE'RE TOAST! China will come up with the best pharmaceuticals instead of AMerica, which has produced 51% of the best in meds for years! And America's lessened..JUST what the Hillary and Obama types LOVE! Plus, we'll lose jobs to other countries because our corporations will have to shrink in size so drastically..brain drain! I know that's happening in Africa, but who knew our left would encourage it HERE!? I feel like I"m living in an alternate reality..this is AMERICA?????????????????

All in the name of 'honestly' and'public safety'....God, I hate the Left, God forgive me.

And, Morgan....Pris and Patsy would be perfect VP Choices but thanks for throwing ol' z in there, too!

Z what we're witnessing with the sickening relations between big government's tumor-like growth and enmeshing with large corporations is known as Corporatism. Archer-Daniels Midland and ethanol is a TEXTBOOK example of Corporatism. It's the brain-child of Benito Mussolini. It's from the political left and recognizes the stupidity of communism while despising free market capitalism.

The more I read Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism" the more worried I get for the future of America. I'm left wondering if this sickness is reversable.

I meant what I sai about YOU, Pris, and Patsy. I'm gonna write John now! :-)

Maybe the reason the Dems love BHO so much is that they're toked up all the time.

And the way BHO hems and haws all the time, he could well be on weed.
