The UN is BACK in IRACK....ruh roh

"What we are doing at the moment is sending a signal that the U.N. is back. The U.N. is back to stay. The U.N. is back to have its footprint increasing, its activities increasing." And JUST when we thought things were going so well in Iraq.

"With violence at four-year lows across Iraq, the United Nations is also venturing further into the tempestuous world of Iraqi politics." Sure. Because they're not QUITE 'tempestuous' enough.

It's like someone holding a party and then not being invited yourself.

The U.N. has to go and get off our soil. They are truly the Useless Nations!

When I was in university in 1960, the founder of the school one morning said in chapel, "They need to push the UN into the East River." Not a bad idea.

So, the feckless busybody's have arrived once again eh?

Not to worry, a few firecrackers going off will have them scurrying back to their perks and cocktails before you can say, "suicide bomber".

What a gutsy move for the UN to come back to Iraq now that things have calmed down.

With courage like that...

The U.N. is laughable. Obama once again showed his true colors (light blue) when he uttered those miserable letters in response to the attack on Georgia.

Remember though, if U.N. workers actually go to Iraq, they won't be able to find anything anyway (desks, pencils, stockpiles of biological weapons, chairs, terrorist training camps, sand,...). Maybe they'll think it's deserted and crawl back into their hole.

I couldn't agree with you guys more.
They're moving in JUST when things are improving...what guts they have, huh?
Shoprat, they might find pencils and papers but only because Gary Senise is supplying the schools with them!

Pris..'feckless'..perfect.

All the rest of you, too, thanks so much for commenting..and sharing my huge respect and admiration for the UN (NOT!!)

The U.N. surrender monkeys appear when it looks safe. They'll run if any danger gets too close. Let's hope any 'peacekeepers' aren't abusing young girls and boys as they do in Africa and other posts.

Oh , I agree with what most said here already.
But I will add this:

Let us say they are up to their old tricks and are looking to make deals on the oil ?

When all else fails..always follow the money.

FROM MR Z:

The UN is just another example of what's wrong with democracy these days. No decisions because there are countries with Veto-power, and all the rest make only decisions when there is something in it for them, regardless of the common good. And then, they spend OUR money (the U.S. and Germany, the largest donors, carry more then 1/3 of the cost, and each have just as many votes as, let's say, Monaco). Well meant, but a really stupid rule.

I have, for a long time, advocated two potential solutions:

1. Abolish the U.N., and start it all over (or not), or

2. Move the HQ to Nigeria. Solves the problem because nobody wants to go there, and if they go, they get shot and/or robbed.

And, in any event, the votes should be distributed according to fees paid. Or, maybe even better, everybody pays the same fee. Then, the total amount of fees will not support the budget, and the problem is solved.

I have a feeling they'll be doing more harm than good.

Trust the U.N. to come and stick their noses in once things started coming good. Where was the support when our guys were over there fighting an uphill battle against constant insurgence?

Oh, great... Like we need those corrupt, embezzling, rapists in our sandbox.

Having the UN makes it possible for the leading countries of the world to pass the buck and ignore the problems of the world under the pretense that there is a world organization capable of dealing with the problems humans create for themselves and others... like the Rwandan genocide.

In the absence of a god to pray to, a 'benevolent' man-made substitute was required...

...of course the UN has done nothing to "solve" a single problem and with just about every war they've intervened in, the situation today is almost as bad as when the conflict first broke out... Israel for one...
