We're giving up the Internet to Foreign Powers?

Could this become a problem?

Obama Surrendering Internet to Foreign Powers

By: Bradley A. Blakeman

Without the ingenuity of America’s brightest minds and the investment of U.S. taxpayer dollars, there would be no Internet, as we now know it today.

Now, the Obama administration has moved quietly to cede control of the Web from the United States to foreign powers.

Some background: The Internet came into being because of the genius work of Americans Dr.Robert E. Kahn and Dr. Vinton G. Cerf. These men, while working for the Department of Defense in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in the early 1970s, conceived, designed, and implemented the idea of "open-architecture networking."

This breakthrough in connectivity and networking was the birth of the Internet.

These two gentlemen had the vision and the brainpower to create a worldwide computer Internet communications network that forever changed the world and how we communicate in it.

They discovered that providing a person with a unique identifier (TCP/IP)that was able to be recognized and interact through a network of servers would allow users to communicate with others.

The servers woulduse a series of giant receivers to recognize the identifier and connect networks to networks, passing on information from computer to computer in a seamless real-time exchange of information. This new process of communication became know as the "information super highway," aka, the Internet.

Now for the bad news: In an effort to show the world how inclusive, sharing, cooperative, and international America can be, the Obama administration set off on a plan to surrender control and key management of the Internet by the U.S. Department of Commerce and its agents.

The key to the control America has over the Internet is through the management of the Domain Name System (DNS) and the giant servers that service the Internet.

Domain names are managed through an entity named IANA, the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority. The IANA, which operates on behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS, IP addressing, and other Internet protocol resources.

In short, without an IP Address or other essential Internet protocols, a person or entity would not have access to the Internet.

For years, the international community has been pressuring the United States
to surrender its control and management of the Internet. They want an international body such as the United Nations or even the International Telecommunications Union, (an entity that coordinates international telephone communications), to manage all aspects of the Internet in behalf of all nations.

The argument advanced for those seeking international control of the Internet is that the Internet has become such a powerful, pervasive, and a dependent form of international communications, that it would be dangerous and inequitable for any one nation to control and manage it.

Just this past spring, within months of Obama's taking office, his administration, through the Department of Commerce, agreed to relinquish some control over IANA and their governance. The Obama administration has agreed to give greater representation to foreign companies and countries on IANA.

This amounts to one small step for internationalism and one giant leap for surrendering America's control over an invention we have every right and responsibility to control and manage.

It is in America's economic and national security interests not to relinquish any control. We are responsible for the control, operation, and functionality of one of the modern world's greatest inventions and most powerful communications network.

What better country to protect the Internet than the United States?

We invented it, and we paid for the research and implementation that made it
possible. We are the freest, most tolerant nation on earth, we believe in the
fundamental right of free speech, and we practice a free market of commerce and ideas.

America has always been against censorship and has shared its invention with the world without fee or unreasonable or arbitrary restriction. The user fee to operate on the Internet is not one paid to the U.S. government; a consumer pays it to private Internet companies, who provide access to the Internet through servers for their subscribers.

Look no further than China's recent move against Google to censor the
Internet, and you can envision what can happen when other nations less free
than the United States seek to control the Internet beyond even their own borders.

America needs to wake up. If we lose control over the management of the
Internet, we have given away one of our nation's greatest assets with nothing
in return to show for it.

The Obama administration's actions will set in motion a slow and complete takeover of the Internet by the United Nations or some other equally U.S.-hostile and unfriendly international body. And once it is gone, it will be gone forever.

The surrender of the Internet will spell disaster for our nation, financially, as well as for safety, security and our standing as a great power that values freedom and the free exchange of ideas and information.

As far as I am concerned, America is still the last best hope for a more
peaceful and prosperous world and our president should not be looking for
ways to weaken us. Rather, his job is to work to strengthen us and protect our nation's greatest asset our people's creativity and ingenuity.

Once again, predictably, Obama has found an area in which he can further erode US sovereignty. As conservatives know, any transfer of our power to the UN or any other "international" agency is another step toward "globalism," which I think of as "world socialism." The man's agenda is a menace to America. But what can one expect? All the indications about what Obama was, and is, were there before the election in 2008. America has become so distanced from their Christian faith, their Judeo-Christian values, the principles that those values inspired in our Constitution, the basic tenets of a free enterprise economic system, etc. that an Obama became the inevitable symptom of our fall from Grace. As a nation, we have nobody to blame. The indoctrination of the anti-American left to be found throughout American culture could have found no foothold in a faithful Christian America. And didn't until the last 50 years or so.

That is a very good point. He also invented the phenomena of "getting fabulously wealthy" by promoting nothing more than a mental construction of something that doesn't exist in the material world. And, through the force of government, can compel people to buy it, even though it doesn't exist. Amazing.

What ever happened to remaking America, Hopeychange style? Roadblocks a plenty hindered Barack Obama during the first year of is first and probably last term. Byron York has an interesting take on Dear Leader: perhaps Obama is already dissatisfied with being president. York briefly narrates the story of young Barry's rise in Chicago and Illinois politics, a bristling progressive with his eye always out for more power, to do more for to the people of Illinois and ultimately the nation.
After all, what IS left for Obama to attain? (Besides the Heisman Trophy, of course.) The pinnacle of his presidency to date was on our about January 20, 2009, and it's been pretty much downhill ever since. His Nobel Peace Prize was an object of humor even to the left. All appearances are that he will be trapped in this hapless presidency with a terrified and/or Republican Congress, a somewhat conservative Supreme Court, and an irate public for the next three years. While by no means down for the count, Obama's efforts to remake America with his own twisted, progressive vision are meeting fail upon fail upon fail.
Yea, I guess I'd be a little fed up as well.

Not much of a concern for me.

The UN didn't scare Saddam Hussein, why should it scare me?

The UN does nothing, NOTHING without Americans doing the heavy lifting.

When you swear the oath of allegiance to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America — does knowingly ceding national sovereignty to an international body such as the United Nations not mean that the actions of any elected politician so doing would be acting unconstitutionally? Obama may not be the first politician to do that but he's actively doing it now.

Being in sympathy with enemies of the state of which you are leader might be considered treason in saner times.

Finally a blog to make the America-haters like the Duck happy.

Obama is willing to do this because the international community will do to the internet what he cannot, censor it.

Do you think it will be liberals they will censor out?

I wish this surprised me, but it doesn't. The destruction of America as we have known it, is well on it's way.

There is nothing pro America or her people that this administration has done. Nothing.

The only thing now, is to see just how heavy a hand the far left, who have co-opted power from the people, will use against Americans who stand up in opposition to the thugocracy.

The march to world government is accelerating so that now we can all see it. It began a long time ago, and now, the reality is upon us. This is just another step in the process.

However we have to know that no plan is perfect and the planners can make mistakes. One mistake is moving too quickly too soon or showing your hand before the betting's done.

While all this is discouraging, I'll put my money on the American people.

Ducky, you can go to hell!

We were discussing this in my U.S. Government class today. My indoctrination specialist argued that "it is necessary for us to relinquish this control for the good of the world." I only asked him "How has the world suffered because the United States holds the keys to this particular kingdom?". He had no answer except to say that "It's not fair for us to control it."

Fair? Where on earth does this notion of "Fair" come from? How is it FAIR to give control to people who would censor thought and action in order to support their own agenda? How is it FAIR to give control to people who would reshape the world into a socialist haven and erradicate all things AMERICAN from the face of the planet?

The internet has been so HUGELY successful BECAUSE it is from the United States. As you pointed out, Miss Z, without American ingenuity, know how and attitude, there would be no internet. Without the openness of our people, we would only be able to get the news that the MSM wants us to get.

I believe, as Mama has told me before, that the UN and other bodies such as that seek to gain control of the internet so that they can control the flow of information; the recounting of history. Imagine, they may even be able to make it look like Jimmy Carter was a great POTUS!

Once they control the flow of information, controlling the economies of the world becomes that much easier. Once that's accomplished, we're all one subjugated, enslaved world population.

Heidianne, I'd say YOU OUGHT TO BE PROUD OF YOUR GIRL FRED but I KNOW YOU ARE! And now I see why!

Please come back Fred...and keep with the come-backs to your profs. MAKE THEM THINK, they're not used to that. :-) xxxxxx

Fred, by the way.."it's not FAIR for us to control it" is very new in American society, as you probably know.
We have been so proud of ourselves over the years and given so much to the world and people have come to us for help, etc...in every way.

Suddenly, our own leftwingers have pretty much put an end to that in the goal of WHAT, I'm not positive;

We can't be PROUD of our country anymore, we can't be UNFAIR even if it's in everyone's interest, we just can't do ANYTHING right, we have to apologize all over the world for our goodness, etc etc.........

and, this is just giving fuel to our enemies. Oh, I could write REAMS here and so could everybody (but one) here in praise of America, in disgust at what the Left's done to her, but what's the point?

We have a PAGAN worship area at the Air Force Academy.
We have straight soldiers who'll have to share sleeping quarters and showers with guys they're sure are gay now...
We've given up control of the internet so we aren't sure what's going to happen.
We're in debt to countries that have threatened us.
We...well.

you fill in the blanks. I'm going down for some wine and TV. HELP!

"It" started more than a century ago with the reaction to the manifest injustices brought by the Industrial Revolution.

"It" was fed by Teddy Roosevelt who assumed a great deal of power unconstitutionally -- but for GOOD purposes like National Parks and Trust Busting.

"It" started to take off in earnest with Woodrow Wilson's initiation of the Income Tax, and his [failed] attempt to build The League of Nations.

"It" moved into full gallop with FDR's New Deal.

WWII oddly saved us from "it" for a few years, but "it" took off again at the end of WWII.

The USA was in the catbird seat at the end of WWII. We -- and Winston Churchill -- had won the war and saved blood soaked Europe from herself. and WE had The Bomb.

But "IT" took over at Nuremberg, and it's been downhill for us -- and Western Christian Civilization -- ever since, though we didn't start to notice it till the Sick-sties.

Thee adoption of the UN Charter was a great triumph for "it."

We've never won a war since WWII, because we foolishly AGREED NOT TO. WE hampered ourselves with rules our enemies don't recognize and would not obey if they did. WE HANDICAPPED ourselves.

After that the British gave up the Suez Canal. WE gave up hte Panama Canal, Then the British gave up Hong Kong.

All these places the WEST had BUILT with Western ingenuity, Western capital and Western perseverance -- places that would NEVER HAVE BEEN had it not been for US -- have been CEDED with the flick of a wrist grown pathetically limp to Turd World Nations.

Giving up control of the internet is a logical part of this sad, most ILLOGICAL sequence.

The West (that's US, folks) has been on a SUICIDE KICK since long before we were born.

The ascendancy of the half-Kenyan, half Communist Jug-Eared Mountebank -- the Mulatto from Hell -- is must part of "ITS" crowning glory.

You can thank demonically clever, ruthlessly unprincipled Intellectual Aggression and our own stupidity and naiveté for that.

Every bit of "it" is part of SATAN'S GREAT PLAN.

Z,
This doesn't surprise me. Obama really has no concrete plan, just some disjointed 60s leftovers. Really, just be nice to them, after all we're all in this together. Really, believe in the inate goodness of man and it will be so. Meanwhile, Obama wants to talk to Iran. This is a country that hangs protestors.

Obama is being compared to Carter. I would compare him to Wilson in his need to have the rest of the world love him. The League of Nations was a bad idea and thanks to nationalists like Henry Cabot Lodge, who stood up for national soveriegnty, the US opted out. No such luck about the UN.

Obama and Wilson, both one-world, supranationalists. We're in trouble.

I actually find the idea of "censoring" the internet in the long term ultimately futile. We're talking about a system originally concieved as a military and science network routing built on the concept of keeping communication relays possible even if routing points are destroyed by a nuclear attack.

Can't get a message through or information flowing, locate a proxy that can. For example, China blocks access to Blogger, but does not block access to proxies that have access to Blogger. Proxies spring up faster than China can block them, hence someone in China that knows what they're doing can exploit the rsiliency of the Internet's basic design function.

China's only recourse is to sever its connections to the internet entirely and create their own closed network. And then the Chinese proxy hunters, most of which are mere computer programs operating several orders of magnitude faster than a human can, turns that network against itself.

The internet is the greatest weapon America has ever created. Give control of it? It really can't be controlled. If a computer can connect to the internet at all, there's a path it can access to reach any other computer on the internet and exchange information with it.

Attempting to censor the internet is an inevitable failure. It was designed to recover communication llnes from nuclear warfare physically severing connections. A truly "censored" internet isn't an internet at all. Access deniability can never be made comprehensive or complete.

The flailing to reign in this beast should be regarded as the pain filled death screams of totalitarian governments around the world that it actually is.

A nice side effect, and downloading Metallica songs for free ain't a bad deal either.

Thank you, Miss Pris, Mr. Chuck, and Miss HAM. The best thing I can say about Mama's style of teachings has been not to lecture. She has always taken the opposing view even if she agreed with something we said and made us defend our position. I hated it when I was young, but now I understand it was done for my own good. (I hate that!).

Miss Z, there are more of us out here than you would think. At my university we have added over 40 members to the Young Republicans' Club since the start of the fall semester. Not all (or most I think) are as vocal as I. For some reason most of the kids I know are afraid to speak up with their opinion.

What I think is that most of the kids I know, KNOW that what we're being taught is wrong. But since they don't often get a chance to hear a different opinion. When they do engage someone who is a conservative, many affirm that they agree, but they will NEVER stand up to someone sayingthe opposite.

Eventually, I think that based on the teachings of our indoctrination specialist, many kids simply forget right and wrong. They just decide that the only way to get ahead is to toe the party line of the prof's.

Personally, I remember my great-grandmother's teachings of "stand for something or you'll fall for anything." Mama does, so does Papi and Mama's parents. Well, and so do all of y'all her and at Mr. Beamish's blog. I simply aspire to the level of understanding exhibited by all of you.
