"Dear President ...CHIRAC?" Please read additional information I just posted

My original blog information is misleading; it was this: "OKAY! Soooo....Mr. Obama has now addressed a letter to Jacques Chirac, the PAST President of France. What I'm most sorry about is that nobody at the White House is correcting these faux pas before they happen. Also, that the media was so darned hard on Bush for every single tiny slip and this is going virtually unnoticed. The media, again, shows its terrible bias."

I do stand behind the fact that this letter should never have gone out but it wasn't that Obama MISTOOK the name of the French President..it was written to the Chirac Foundation.

HERE IS THE BEST INFORMATION I'VE FOUND ON THE SUBJECT, after MUCH research in French and English, and I DO stand behind my opinion that this was not a good idea. This blogger tells what happened and why it shouldn't have been sent far better than I could:

From blogger FAUSTA:

My (very!) rough translation:

Will this correspondence lead to joint projects? For now, no meetings are in the works, and they have not met in person. But the objectives of the Chirac Foundation - sustainable development and dialogue between cultures agree with the American president’s.
Both men also share their opposition to the Iraq war, which started exactly five years ago, on March 20, 2003.

OK, so here are the facts:

  • Obama’s letter was sent on March 20, the anniversary of the Iraq war.
  • The US still has troops in Iraq defending that country, and those troops are not only fighting but actively engaged in building a civil society.
  • Each and any action by the Obama administration will be closely examined. Publicly approaching a private foundation with language that can be interpreted as being against the US presence in Iraq actively undermines that effort.

Additionally,

  • Nicolas Sarkozy came to power by running not only against the Socialists, but by actually running against Chirac within Chirac’s own party. Is it a good idea to publicly “extend a hand” to Chirac, then?
  • Chirac in fact, was allegedly involved in the affaire Clearstream
  • Chirac’s administration as mayor of Paris was marked by corruption, from the water works contracts to other kinds of graft, and let’s not forget about his lunch money.
  • Back in 2006 I was posting about Chirac’s own secret service. You may also recall Chirac’s support of Hugo Chavez.

And let’s not forget that Chirac’s foundation strongly promotes the globalisation tax, a tax on wealth generated by globalization:

“It could be a tax on airplane tickets, on carbon dioxide, on health products sold in industrialised countries, and indeed on international
financial transactions,” one source said.

So, pray tell, why send the letter in the first place?

AMEN, and thanks, FAUSTA.....Z

This part of my original post stands:
BY THE WAY
: What happened to OIL FOR FOOD and notre Monsieur Jacques Chirac?
As I often say about things which disappear in the leftist media blur "must be yet another thing down Sandy Burger's pants, huh?" With Wm Jefferson's frozen money case, etc...all those things which just suddenly....die for 'lack of interest'? I WAS INTERESTED, weren't you?

WHAT????

Z, Please, tell me this is a joke!! What universe is this man living in?

Or is it because the teleprompter was needed in the oval office, and was taking a nap.

Of course the TOTUS ,(teleprompter of the U.S.) did mistakenly tell Obama to give the Irish Prime Minister's speech, which he obediently did.

I seem to remember Katie Couric asking Sarah Palin what she reads. Too bad she didn't ask Obama. In fact, what did the press ask him?

Oh yes, what kind of puppy was he going to get? Heavy stuff, really, he hasn't even done that.

Does this President need a keeper, or what. My God, he's our President. He's becoming a joke, a laughing stock. He's making America a caricature of her former self.

After giggling his way through 60 minutes last night, I guess he thinks this whole mess, is a laugh riot. I'm sure the TV audience was rolling on the floor, laughing at the prospect of paying astronomical taxes, and having the government tell them every aspect of their lives belongs to the state.

Uh......let's ask Ducky, Chuckle who?

I'm waiting for April 1st, so the President can announce APRIL FOOL!

Well, I'm not laughing. We're stuck with an incompetent, ignorant dunce, who hates the rich, hates anything American, is a racist, and has no respect for foreign leaders, or simple civil traditions.

Let's see, the requirement for impeachment as it stands, is high crimes and misdemeaners, can we add feckless abandon? Please??

I agree with Anonymous, he's a joke. The saddest thing to see though, is how the media ignores it and the liberals still defend him! A woman on Fox News the other day (sorry don't know who she was)told Sean Hannity that Tim Geitner was doing a fabulous job and should not be replaced for making ONE mistake. Omg, don't even get me started on that fool!

Z said...

Pris, funny you should mention Couric and Palin, one of the blogs said "Gee, does that mean Obama can see FRANCE from his window?" Something like that......you get the drift!

I hope and pray all of this stops. The presidency doesn't deserve this tarnish. WE don't deserve this tarnished administration. And it is tarnished, sadly, the shine is going...very fast.

I didn't even know he was ON 60 Minutes last night..was it a repeat? When is he WORKING? Was it another glowing, admiring job by the leftist 'journalists' there?

Let's keep praying his heart changes, that he learns to understand it's the PRESIDENCY , not HIM, which is the important thing. His biases (kicking Winston Churchill's bust out for one of MLK Jr, etc., are unseemly, why not add MLK Jr, TO the WH collection?)

I can only be greatly saddened about all of this...

Right.."Chuckle WHO?" Matter of fact, Priscilla, it always seemed to me that Bush was FAR better OFF teleprompter, remember that was said quite often?

Ducky's here said...

The interesting thing here, Pris is that none of the blogosphere drama queens bother to mention that Chirac was the one who initiated contact with Obama and this was merely a pro forma reply to Chirac's initial inquiry about some charity issues.

The American right wing blogosphere, fish in a barrel.

Next time wait till a reputable news organization picks up the supposed "story".

Ducky, take a deep breath and understand that Sarkozy is ticked off ...does that help you to realize that it wasn't the right thing to do?

Chirac isn't popular in France and this isn't the thing to have done. Sitting presidents deal with sitting presidents, not past presidents.

What you would consider 'reputable' as far as news agencies are concerned is probably the NYTimes which made no mention of this letter you came up with from Chirac..odd. Most of us realize that REPUTABLE doesn't mean AGENDA-DRIVEN or BIASED.

That Conservative sites are the only ones finding out these things should be a plus for America, not mocked and ridiculed as trash because leftists don't agree with what they're reporting.

-----------------------------

Prove it. All you have from a reputable source right now mere;y states that Obama replied and some conjecture about policy in Iraq, which is utterly irrelevant since Europe has no troops in Iraq other than some British forces due to leave in a few months.

Oh by the way, z, why don't you read the entire story initially printed in Figaro and check out the portions left out by "ultra reliable" right wing blogosphere.

My French is still good enough to get the drift. You should have absolutely no problem.

Go to the source rather than relying on the usual bumpkins.

Gee, Ducky, the Frenchmen reading Le Figaro must not have the news Sarkozy's not happy, either, eh?

If the KKK was to make a film with a black-faced white man playing the first black president, it would be indistinguishable from this guy. He is making a fool of himself and the country.

Ducky, there's a reputable news organization? Really?

And why, Ducky, should I believe you? You're reputable?

The best face you could put on this is to say, Obama sidestepped President Sarkozy to communicate his desire to work toward peace and friendship for the next four years with Chirac who's not in power.

Quit tripping all over yourself to put a reasonable face on this. We're talking about a President who gave the Irish leader's speech instead of his own because the TOTUS told him to, who insulted the British Prime Minister, with a gift that anyone could buy on Amazon, and as Z said, returned a gift of Winston Churchill's bust that was not his to return!

My goodness what a great way to win friends and influence people.

And remember, this is the same man who thought we had 58 states.

Save it Ducky, your talking points won't cut it.

En écrivant à la Fondation Chirac

Notice that. Obama was replying to Chirac's foundation.

Now whatever might be thought of that it is certainly not what is being presented by the right.

OKAY! Soooo....Mr. Obama has now addressed a letter to Jacques Chirac,

Ducky, what makes you think that Obama or his staff knew the difference between a foundation and the proper office of the President?

How do you know he was replying to anything?

And, why then is Sarkozy upset?

Here is a translation of the letter in Le Figaro:

"Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :

Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.

This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.

I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !

In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him"

Ducky, you might not like where this information came from, but I'm not sure that's really the point.
Nuance is important in diplomacy; this wasn't the thing to do.

thanks.

SOME OF YOU MIGHT JUST COME TO COMMENTS HERE AND HAVE NOT READ THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I JUST POSTED ON THIS SUBJECT...PLEASE DO. IT'S VITAL TO THE STORY AND SHEDS A MORE INTERESTING LIGHT ON WHAT MOST OF US FEEL WAS A PRETTY BAD MISTAKE.

Thanks.

Imagine if Bush had done something like this. It would be front page news. BO gets another pass.

It has been my experience that arrogance does not recognize nuance. While diplomacy is shallow to be sure, it is the accepted way of communcating between countries. BO and his minions should get better at it.

Even Bush, the ignorant cowboy understood that. He always treated every visiting head of state with dignity and respect.

Well Z, so what this represents in reality is, our President want's a soulmate in France, not a dialogue with the leadership.

After all, "Pay to Play" fits in much better with the "Oil for Food" scandal. Yes, soulmates for sure.

This is a slight of Sarkozy in any case, and rather openly done. Obama seems to think he can choose to insult an entire nation because he's ....well...Barack Obama.

excellent comments all.

Pris, don't get me wrong..I STILL don't think he should have EVER done this.

I heard that huge wind bag, Bob Beckel, tonight talking so disdainfully about Cheney "he was never around when you thought he ought to be but will somebody send him home now?" Imagine? Clinton's constantly in our face, Carter travels around making a total ASS of himself, yet Cheney has to 'go home'.

Chirac should have gone home and stayed home, too. But, Obama's opened that pandora's box again..just great.. And these are the people who care so much what France thinks they just decided to tick 55 million off.

Anonymous said...

Z, I didn't get you wrong I understood that's what you meant, and I agree.

Obama must think that because he's who he is, it's enough. He wants to make the rules, even in France!

What this letter President Teleprompter's people sent to Mr. CHirac , tells me is that Mr. CHirac and Obama are running their stupid agenda.

Now I know why everything O is doing is so odd, including the little love letters to Iran , ending the term..enemy combatants and other goodies.

Of course Pres. Sarkozy was a bit inflamed.
It is the height of rudeness and low class to do these things but then, this seems to be O's way.

I am beginning to wonder if all of Obama's marbles are in his head.

BO has all his marbles, they're just anti-American, pro-global socialist, what's-in-it-for-me? elitist marbles. And the scary thing is, he gets to set the playing field because there isn't anyone who can stop him unless the American public stands up en masse and says enough!
