How many of YOU feel like this today?

Appeasement, mischaracterizations, plummeting stocks, insults to foreign leaders, naive negotiations, outrageous spending......sometimes the news is just too much, isn't it? Do you ever feel like this? I'm not sure how a Latte like the one above would taste, but.............it might HELP!

What are YOU doing to cope? HELP ME!!

I stopped watching the news.

No mood-altering drugs, I simply read YOU and some others to help cope. Some days are harder than others. EB makes a good suggestion, but then we get drawn back in to the news cycle, don't we? Seriously, pulp fiction is a good diversion.

I'm currently reading "Into The Storm", by Taylor Anderson. It's a sci fi story of a WWII Destroyer that gets transported to an alternate universe through a squall. The ship stumbles into a naval war between two different races. One of Lemur people and the other man-sized intelligent raptor people. A story of good vs evil. Conservatives vs liberals.

OK, sounds lame, but I really like this book. Find one you like.

I try to limit myself to just enough news, and then I focus on another hobby. I happen to be a baby name fanatic - weird I know. I also just learned scrapbooking, and it sounds like something I might keep up. I'll just have to be creative to keep the costs down.

I do my part to let others know what is going on. Apart from that, the liberals can't do a damn thing to touch what is really important to me.

Your right PF...I've also been reading and catching up on my music listening...spending time with family. It's been good in that regard.

Exactly, Elbro!!!

I guess Duhkkky listens to R.E.M. to cope

Ducky's here said...

Nah, I don't particularly care for R.E.M, Elmer. That song isn't bad though.

I'm positive you'd prefer this excerpt:

In the victory of Communism's deathless ideal,
We see the future of our dear land
And to her fluttering scarlet banner,
selflessly true, we always shall stand!/

from here.

elmers brother said...

maybe you'd prefer an excerpt from the older version:

Through tempests shined on us the sun of freedom,
And the great Lenin lit us the way.
Stalin brought us up — on loyalty to the people,
He inspired us to labor and to heroism!

If you have a Netflix account, elmer, go for Dziga Vertov's "Three Songs for Lenin".

Damn, the Russians knew how to edit.

Well, let's see, I'm in three bowling leagues, that gets me moving, I bowl with my sister, and we catch up with family doings, etc.

Issues of the day do come up among we bowlers, and that gives me a window into the mood in the country, but, it's also a social activity.

Oh, BTW, we do want to win our games. Competition and recreation are fun too.

Like others here, I read for escape. Right now I'm reading Brave New World Revisited. Not exactly an escape with this one, but interesting.

I am a horror buff, which is escape reading. I find these days, horror stories are not as scary as real life.

We're a game-playing family, and my grandson and I play board games, video games, when time permits.

Venting on line as I can do here, relieves some tension as well, not to mention meeting and talking to good people like you all here.

Pops and Elbro - Ditto!

Ducky -- that's for later. First the left has to completely ruin our economy and our country. That's what they are currently working on.

Ducky, the only evidence that the RIGHT is'utterly mind numbingly stupid' is that some of us didn't realize QUITE how bad obama would be for this country... that he'd actually heed the same advice that has the Japanese economy still in the tank 19 yrs after they followed Krugman/Pelosi/Geithner MIND NUMBINGLY stupid tactics.
And, by the way, I keep asking you to STOP NAME CALLING>

Of ALL people, Elbro's anything BUT stupid. Who's STUPID? Those who are bowing to the Greek altar of THE ONE. THAT is STUPID.

Pat..want me to send you an MP3 of MOI??? I would! I'd be very HAPPY to sing you into a better mood!!

Just a sub conversation for the day.

Z,
When Obamaism with its prospect of a financial collapse for the forseeable future gets me down I do several things.

I watch obscure Russian movies.

I listen to rock music.

I go to shows featuring obscure art forms.

I claim to read obscure literature.

I study macroeconomics deep into the night.

I listen to obscure musical artists.

I do all these things because I am the Renaissance Man.

Also, I am just smarter and more cultured than the rest of you right wing, utterly mind numbingly stupid people.

That's what I'm going on about.

Anonymous said...

Mmmm, that latte sounds GOOD to me!

I just read Law and Order's comment...Bwahahaha!!!

I rarely watch the news. PBS, BBC if anything.

I listen to music. (not at all obscure)
I take photographs.
I look at art that I don't understand.
I read psychology books, photography / art / science journals.

I've finished the last Martha Grimes Richard Jury novels..DARN! that was my refuge!
I do plenty of stuff that's not really politics-related but this political situation plays in the back of my mind a lot.

And, much as I hate to say it, I'm hoping more people will stay tuned to the news, blogs, etc....this isn't the time to tune out.

Sure, for our mental/physical health it probably IS, but for our country...we need to get STRONGER. We know we're better informed than the Left, we just have to put it in motion.

sue said...

I watch W and enjoy seeing Rush
pump up the Conservatives.

Z said...

Hi sue! I don't know what 'W" is, but I enjoyed Rush's speech, too. It's about time someone told the truth and got the country riled up. We have to fight..and soon. Or we lose an AWFULLY good past..of self reliant Americans, of a good education, hard work, honesty, etc.

It must have been awful for the White House because obama, again, is the first president ever to insult journalists and personalities who don't agree with him, by NAME! Did you see how Gibbs attacked the Democrat, Cramer from CNBC, for having the GALL to suggest that this president's "contributed to the greatest wealth destruction ever seen?" I wish this WH could stop the personal insults..Gibbs went back into Cramer's background and belittled his life's work to make sure nobody disagrees with THE ONE.

Terrible..

sue said...

z - I'm afraid my attempt at sarcasm backfired on me. I detest Rush and everything he says.

(W is Oliver Stone's biographical movie about George H. Bush's life -
from his days of boozing up until the time he started the war under false pretenses.)

Z said...

Sue, please stop. I knew exactly that you were being sarcastic.

my blog is a conservative blog and I welcome liberal comments but I'm so so tired of hearing nothing but insults and mischaracterizations....we get enough on the news, the newspapers, the films, talk shows...
Believe it or not, half this country isn't liberal and it's just unAmerican that we've got people acting as if Conservatives are evil.

As for Bush, I haven't been a fan for a long time but I know very few people who drank and stopped on their own accord. That's a cheap shot if you don't mind my saying so. Oliver Stone is no Will Durant.

I don't like arguing but I am tired of the insults and belittlement and destruction of the American self reliant, independent, success-oriented spirit from the man you helped elect....i'm just so sad and tired of it.

And, everyone, like Rush, or the liberal Cramer on CNBC or the innocent by-stander Joe the Plumber, is CRUCIFIED for disagreeing. I'm stunned at a WH which personally insults...doesn't that give you pause?

thanks.

that he'd actually heed the same advice that has the Japanese economy still in the tank 19 yrs after

-------------------------

See z, here's where it gets dicey. My impulse is to be polite and offer a different point of view but, remember, your PRINCIPLE GOAL is to trash Obama. Regardless of what that means for economic recovery.

Now, why did it take so long in Japan? Most analysis says it was because the Japanese were TOO TIMID. They weren't willing to admit that the junk paper was worthless and tried to muddle through without the large stimulus needed to pull out of their recession.

One problem we have is that Geithner is trying to save the banks and not admit they are insolvent and may in fact make the same mistake but you cannot equate the rest of the package to the action the Japanese took (or rather did not take).

Sue,'uprighteous' isn't kind and it's not true. People have opinions other than yours, that's just a fact. This is America. It's only recently that Conservatives can't get real news, ALL the information, on the leftist media.

Did you know that deductions will only be given to churches which are minority? The Catholics will lose their tax status because it's not all minority. Catholic soup kitchens won't be getting their deductions because they're not homosexual and they're mostly WASP.

Does that sit well with you? Did you even KNOW this?
Meanwhile, I'm listening to ABC radio announcing how the obama girls "Squealed with delight" when they saw their new swing set.

I'd prefer real news...SOME real news..somewhere.

Z said...

Sue, I have an excellent blogroll. If you think I'm the only Conservative trying to get real information out there, you're mistaken.

Check out the other blogs. They're even more 'uprighteous' than I am.

Then go to Moveon.org, or DailyKOs or Huffintgon Post or THE NATION and tell me that's fair, okay?

Z said...

I was just running out the door for a full day of meetings and felt I should come back and tell you that I didn't start this blog to argue with bloggers or feel belittled.

I want honest argument. When I say something, give me facts for how I'm wrong. NO problem. Do not belittle Conservatives here.

I will continue to critique and inform and enlighten because this is America and half of us are not Democrats.

And most of us see our country falling apart. meanwhile, the media's talking about swing sets, muscular arms and obama's "other gray matter", his hair.

Let's start working to fix fairness and media bias and stop forcing our children to pledge to Obama, as in Las Vegas, etc.
If that's wrong, this isn't America.

sue said...

z - I totally agree with you. I am like the ant that is biting the elephant's leg. I serve only to hamper the purpose of your blog - whatever that is. As a liberal, I hearby resign from the position of trying to make you see your blog as it really is. Selfserving.

No matter that you are only one out of two commenters on my blogs. I am willing to have no commenters if it means I get my point across here.

sue said...

And no more belittling. Just Conservatives making each other feel good by talking down the liberal administration.

This is my last word - but I'll always be reading.

Wow. To say that "W" was a legitimate movie is a statement worthy of a good laugh. My husband put it on our netflix queue and I fell asleep two nights in a row, just trying to get through it. It was simply a pathetic caricature.

Utterly disgusting. Pandering to Bush's haters.

It's easy to fall in lock-step with something that never challenges you. Why not have the courage to read, watch, talk with people who disagree with your viewpoints. And do so without sarcasm and hatefulness?

Z said...

Sue, "Self serving"? This blog is give and take....as I said. I'm not here to tout liberal viewpoints...it's a conservative blog. Even CNN and NBC ABC and CBS don't present world affairs fairly. But a conservative must!?

Yes, I firmly believe Conservatives have just as much right to a blog and to welcome dissenting viewpoints as any liberal blog does. It's still legal.....I think? And no blog deserves belittlement.
