The visit was pretty much a ...BUST

Blogger FREEDOM'S FIGHT (Good blog, by the way...go take a look!) has this at her site:

Number 10 may be content that they just about got away with the visit to the Oval Office yesterday, as Andrew Porter reports from Washington.

But on this side of the Atlantic the whole business looked pretty demeaning. The morning papers and TV last night featured plenty of comment focused on the White House's very odd and, frankly, exceptionally rude treatment of a British PM. Squeezing in a meeting, denying him a full press conference with flags etc. The British press corps, left outside for an hour in the cold, can take it and their privations are of limited concern to the public.

But Obama's merely warmish words (one of our closest allies, said with little sincerity or passion) left a bitter taste with this Atlanticist. Especially after his team had made Number 10 beg for a mini press conference and then not even offered the PM lunch.

We get the point, sunshine: we're just one of many allies and you want fancy new friends. Well, the next time you need something doing, something which impinges on your national security, then try calling the French, or the Japanese, or best of all the Germans. The French will be able to offer you first rate support from their catering corps but beyond that you'll be on your own.

When it comes to men, munitions and commitment you'll soon find out why it pays to at least treat the Brits with some manners. (Thanks, Freedom's Fight)

Z: England's The Independent, Huffington surprisingly has the piece, spins the rudeness as a defeat for Brown, with a reminder that Bush treated Blair with great respect. In another article, this time written by Politico, the coverage is pretty fair and balanced, showing both sides of the situation.

I guess I just wish we didn't have someone in the highest office in the land who would even let a country like England surmise there was anything rude or dismissive about us. Some think this is a continuation of the dissing felt in England because of Obama's giving back a bust of Winston Churchill which Britain had lent the Bush administration for the White House. The Telegraph says "Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather."

Please, Mr. Obama, don't hold grudges ...you represent ALL the American people now and some of us prefer you suck it up and display dignity and respect. Churchill did a lot of good. We don't operate on "one strike, you're OUT." I'm sure Mr. Obama would have had lunch with Ahmedinejad, huh?

He was going to improve relations with our allies, or so I thought he said. He's off to a great start. Insulting the second best ally we have (and he is no friend of our closest ally - Israel - either).

z i am going to paste the response i just got done giving you to a comment you so graciously left me on my blog..ok here goes....and z obama dissess a major ally in the war on terror when he blew off brown!!... ya know a lot has been made of rush's boast of wanting obama to fail, but there is one arena I do not want obama to fail in, and that is his sworn duty to protect this nation. i am not confident he is up to this task...

In addition to being a complete amateur and a communist zealot, this guy has even not the slightest amount of decency. Just imagine, he took more time with the Chicago Bulls at the White House than with the PM of one of the most important allies of the U.S. But, oh, that's right - he was still in preparation of his Hip Hop Wednesday-party-night. How could I forget. Priorities are where priorities are due!

Pat, I'll go look; thanks for pasting it here because it's pertinent...and it's frightening.

Yes, I HOPE AND PRAY he'll protect us, but....with closing Gitmo and all the legal ramifications (We'll have naive Harvard grad lawyers spending OUR MONEY defending Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and he'll be able, once on American soil as a foreigner, to apply for ASYLUM!!! Get a Harvard grad judge in there and we are TOAST), and obama's announcing to the WORLD that "BUSH DESTROYED CIA INTERROGATION TAPES" (as if it thrilled Bush to have to 'torture' to save our lives and the tapes are of his laughing with sadistic GLEE?) ..add that to Hillary funding Palistine with almost a billion bucks (hey, I THOUGHT WE WERE BROKE!!) and she "hopes" this money is not put in the wrong hands (which would probably be ISRAEL in this admin!), etc...we're NOT safe.. Add the NY Times blowing our cover how many times!?, Dianne Feinstein blowing that secret she revealed recently... oh, brother. I have to stop now/ we haven't eaten dinner yet!! I wont be able to eat if I keep that up!

shoprat....well said. No traditional lunch for Gordon Brown, but he'd have tea with Ahmedinejad! And sure spent a goodly amount of time with the Chicago Bulls, didn't he.

Obama is just being a consistent liberal. Take your allies for granted, and kiss up to your adversaries.

I thought we would be mending fences with all those countries Bush pissed off, including those in Europe.

Guess we're off to a fine start.

Z said...

Pris, I keep forgetting the 'rules'!!

Elbro....Actually, England was the one country we really hadn't ticked off......maybe he's just making sure it's a clean sweep??!!

elmers brother said...

I thought the British liberals hated him too.

I don't like Gordon Brown either, but it's because he's a hard left idiot. Obie's doing what Jimmah Carter did. He's flipping off our allies. How long until he attempts to perform indecent acts on our enemies? :-)

Elbro...Blair didn't hate him...some Brit Libs did, no doubt about it, but we can only worry about what the gov't thinks, you know? The government consensus has been favorable toward Bush, mostly.

Steve Harkonnen said...

Don't worry. Obama is building up his own legacy. Meanwhile, I hope that people eventually come to their senses and see that this idiot doesn't get re-elected.

When the lazy, good for nothing poor, who refuse to make themselves better people and rely on the government dole start pitching a bitch for "their stimulus check" ---t will hit the proverbial fan, and their orgasmic romance with Obama will soon come to a sudden halt.

elmers brother said...

but Z I think this whole time the supposed people we've pissed off all along were just the European liberals.

I mean we had more countries involved in OIF than in the first Gulf War but supposedly we were going to war unilaterally and pissing off all those Europeans.

These 21 countries were: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

and Spain until Al Queda made them run up the yellow flag.

Other countries who have pulled out of Iraq.

Nicaragua (Feb. 2004); Spain (late-Apr. 2004); Dominican Republic (early-May 2004); Honduras (late-May 2004); Philippines (~Jul. 19, 2004); Thailand (late-Aug. 2004); New Zealand (late Sep. 2004); Tonga (mid-Dec. 2004) Portugal (mid-Feb. 2005); The Netherlands (Mar. 2005); Hungary (Mar. 2005); Singapore (Mar. 2005); Norway (Oct. 2005); Ukraine (Dec. 2005); Japan (July 17, 2006); Italy (Nov. 2006); Slovakia (Jan 2007).

and in Afghanistan

United States
United Kingdom
Germany
Canada
France

and 37 other countries

so what I'm trying to say is that the only fences he needs to mend are with liberals

Papa Frank said...

If the visit was a bust.....well.......we KNOW who the boob was. ;0)

Z said...

Ya, Elbro...you notice that most of the countries who were with us were once Socialist or even Commie, I think!?

people from most of those countries come to America and, the ones I KNOW, all vote Republican because they've HAD it with the leftist points of view.

Sure, the people are libs in those countries, and in England, too, but Blair defied them and even Brown has been SORT of on our side since he got in. I guess I"m not getting you....!!

Pasadena Closet Conservative said...

Some dumbass Lib commentator on the radio this morning asked, "Who should I listen to, Rush Limbaugh or Gordon Brown?"

Then he went on to explain that since Brown is a Brit, he must certainly have the best interests of America at heart, and that this certainly cannot be said for Limbaugh.

Gag me.

elmers brother said...

OIF = Operation Iraqi Freedom

Z said...

Pasadena...what kind of thinking...?
OH, ya...liberal thinking. Well, there ya go!

Ya, if Rush Limbaugh's speech was so silly, why's the left running scared?

Did you all see where Gibbs slams Cramer from CNBC? He even says Cramer's record is wrong so he must be wrong on Obama's plan!

You just CANNOT disagree with this administration! And the Left thought Bush was secretive and untransparent!? He was NEVER rude, NEVER said nasty things about journalists, NEVER attacked anyone for slamming him or his policies.

Is this the first WH to insult people who disagree? I didn't even think that level of dignity could be breached...you'd think that someone in the WH has more respect than that for others.......silly me

The aftermath analysis is missing the fact that being of the left requires shedding all vestiges of emotional maturity - its all non-stop crying about a self-soiled diaper. Without exception.

Now, most people find it in themselves to realize there's a larger world than their pooped-up diapers, rendering themselves immune to leftism's charm.

But then you get Obama and his worshippers.

But what can you expect? America wanted a foreign national to be its President. A foreign national is what we got.

But Ted Kennedy got a knighthood. There were some positives.

Ya, Elbro...you notice that most of the countries who were with us were once Socialist or even Commie, I think!?

------------------------

Given what's going on in Eastern Europe today, I would look for them to move towards the "third way". They got a good screwing from the "invisible hand".

If you think people are happy with the collapse then you haven't been paying attention.

Ducky's here said...

TONGA PULLED OUT OF IRAQ?

There goes the coalition.

Ducky's here said...

I wonder if the traditional US - Britain - Israel triumvirate is going to be replaced.

Can't happen quickly enough.

Z said...

Ducky, wouldn't you admire a murderer's knighthood. Nice.

As for the triumvirate, who would you prefer? N. Korea, Iran and Russia? you should think this through.
All of your type who thinks America's power is distasteful and we need to be lowered a few notches need to think through who WILL be the next world power and how that might be. Or, maybe you're actually considering that the UN might do a better job!!?
hilarious

Ducky's here said...

If Browne was so badly used, why isn't it a story on the BBC?

Pardon me if I think this is just more manufactured nonsense.

Z said...

Um. Every article is from Britain.
NOT US! Gee, I never thought of using the BBC for a harbinger of honesty, trust me!! Skye News has SOME fair stories, but BBC? Sort of like your pbs!!!

Ducky's here said...

What would I prefer, z?

Oh, better ties with Europe, India, South America, Japan.

An admission that Russia and China are going to be a tad more important to the future of the world than Israel.

Prez Barry's cold shoulder to Brown and return of the bust is interesting. It could be that he didn't care for Sir W. C.'s view on things Mohammad. Hmmmm?

Ah yes, the BBC. The government-run channel which requires a license to watch is going to really stick it to their mealticket Labour PM.

Ducky, for gods-and-devil's sake, stop mercilessly representing the Left as utter imbeciles.

Z said...

Oh, Ducky..what IS it about liberals who can't WAIT for Russia and China to be more important....one gets the idea that you mean "more important than America" and that would suit you right down to the ground.

And the GROUND is where you guys are running us down TO, so congratulations.

Except, I'm feeling a groundswell...you hear Feingold's telling Obama not to sign the add'l $400 million Omnibus. Well, looky here..the armor's chipping..RUHROH

Heard a good part of Gordon Brown's address to the House of Representatives. He is a very frightening man --- a One Worlder. So, of course, is our new president.

May God please SAVE America!

In a way it's good, the british left hated Bush with every fibre of their being. And they hated Tony Blair for going with America. Brown and the political party he represents are the party of the left in Britain and they would have worshipped obama and even put the boot into Sarah Palin.

Richly deserved i say.

I doubt obama meant any ill-will, probably just a screw-up due to his administration's inexperience.
