VETERANS DAY

A Soldier's Prayer
By Jesse J. Sparks

It's time to sleep
I've been relieved

My rifle at my side
My knife in it's sheath

Lord let me live another day
As I put myself in harms way

I made my choice, I took the oath
I stand for freedom, but I don't boast

My God, my country, my family
The things I hold so dear

With these all on my side
There's nothing for me to fear

But if I should fall before my next relief
I will stand before you Lord with honor and dignity

So, while I'm here please make me strong
To fight the battles and right what's wrong

God Bless America

Z: And God Bless all our soldiers, those who lost their lives, those who we honor for having served, and all their soldier families. How can we ever forget them all?

Amen to that Z. Without them we wouldn't be exchanging this conversation, let alone speaking in English. They are owed a debt that simply cannot be paid.

Good to hear your comments, thanks......I personally can't imagine the courage it takes to joined the armed services, so I'm always in awe and admiration.

Commoncents, I'm so computer illiterate I can't even figure out what a 'link exchange' is...but thanks for continuing to ask!

I feel like I'm hurting feelings even when someone links my blog as a 'follower' because I have no idea how to do it back (I accidentally blocked two people kind enough to have followed my blog! and had to apologize to them) and I use my homepage blogroll, anyway! (plus a ton of GREAT blogs are on my personal bookmarks!..that, I can do!)?

Elbro..paying for Jeremiah and Austin. I'm so sorry for your loss and the loss suffered by their families.

May God rest their souls.

I think we also owe a debt of gratitude and our profound respect for the courage displayed by the mothers, fathers, siblings, wives, and children who suffered every moment their loved ones went in harm’s way.

I do not think we sufficiently acknowledge these sacrifices, particularly honoring the widows, their children, and the parents of veterans killed or injured on the field of battle.

there are very few Atheists in a fire fight. A few before but not many during.

May God guard all of them.

Z,
Thanks for recognizing our brave veterans. I had a wonderful, thoughtful day with my students. I talked to them about the wars of our country and showed them a video. It was very heartwarming to see their positive and emotional responses to the lesson. I posted about it. Some days are diamonds and today sure was one.

Law & Order Teacher I really like your take on things. I went to your VERY interesting blog, and I only had one moment of "hesitation", for lack of a better word. I'm not a huge fan of Bismark. I still think he should have made a strong stand against socialism in Germany instead of adopting so much of it. Good men need to make strong moral stands on important issues instead of meeting evil half way.

Very thoughtful of you to recognize and remember our Vets, both past and present. My son in law did 2 tours, one in Rahmadi and Falluja, and the other in Afghanistan. He made it home safe and sound, but other buddies did not. May God rest their souls and bless our men and women in service to their country.

My mistake. Leave it to me to miss the past tense "did".

Morgan,
My take on all that I've read about Bismarck is that he was a staunch capitalist caught in period of social upheaval. If Bismarck was anything he was a pragmatist. The rise of socialism that confronted his chancellorship was profound and spreading across Europe at a fast pace. His pragmatic side led him to adopt some socialism, as understood in that time period, which mostly resulted in the beginnings of a social safety net for German workers. Bismarck was extremely adept at balancing power among the Great Powers of Europe (France, Germany, Britain, Russia, Austria-Hungary, the fading Ottoman Empire.) He engineered an intricate web of alliances which succeeded in juggling the disputes inherent in Europe. I find it no accident the First World followed Bismarck's dismissal by about 15 years. That is the basis for my statement. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

LAOT everything you wrote matches what i've read about Bismark. A fascinating man for sure. I'm left wondering what COULD have been had he made a STRONG stand against the socialist disease. His compromise played a role in paving the way for National Socialism too. Of course he didn't know that...

Pinky, they proselytize for the same reason that the religious do.

Everyone thinks he has the definitive set of dogma.
