Sunday Faith Blog

There was a large crowd listening to a lecturer who brought up the Red Sea crossing from the Bible. He said that God did not part the sea for the Israelites to cross, that there had to have only been 2" of water and who couldn't cross through 2" of water?

Suddenly, a man in the back of the hall jumped up, threw both hands up into the air above his head, palms outspread, yelling "Thank you, Jesus! Thank you, Jesus!" The lecturer asked "Why are you thanking Jesus? Didn't you hear what I said?"

"Thank you, Jesus!" the man yelled again.."...only GOD could get the whole Egyptian army to drown in only 2" of WATER!" :-)

I thought you might enjoy that! And, on the subject, please read THIS AMAZING ARTICLE , to see how Egyptian chariot wheels, etc., have been found at the bottom of the Red Sea!

"I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me." Proverbs 8:17
Keep loving and keep seeking! Have a really great Sunday.... (thanks, M, for that wonderful story!)

Anything to deny a miracle, huh?

Z: it's faith, pure and simple. Faith is best when it's simple and pure.

Nice theory. However I have one myself. The artifacts, wheels, bones, etc...may have been caused by a ship(s) sinking in a storm or for any number of reasons. Of course the bones of the people on board would have settled to the bottom also.

The parting of the seas revealing a slope to walk or travel through...might have been the result of a tsunami from a nearby earthquake. Incoming tsunamis have been know to pull the waters back towards the sea upon it's arrival leaving an exposed sea bottom. The 2004 earthquakes in Indonesia proved that.

Cute story.

Otherwise, BZ is right and Anonymous shows HOW right.

Believers must simply believe what God's word SAYS. Chariot wheels don't add a thing to that.

Anyone determined to discredit scripture can make up a vaguely plausible story as Anonymous has done, proving nothing but insinuating doubt in people's minds. Nope, believe the scripture. Leave chariot wheels out of it.

Susannah said...

You know, Z, isn't it interesting that people who try to disprove miracles use 'plausible' explanations of the natural world to do so. One question...who do those folks think created & controls seas...tsunamis...earthquakes?

Btw, I agree w/ faith, but I just love that chariot wheel thing!

Sorry, I really loved the story and I thought the historical information would delight any Christian..

by the way....odd that a tsunami happened in a river ..! and JUST at the same place the bible describes the crossing!? :-)

I used to love the extrabiblical proofs until I'd seen so many debunkers have at them, like "Anonymous" here. All we really have is faith and that's all we're really SUPPOSED to have -- it IS the substance of things unseen, it IS our evidence, it IS our proof. Not that the Lord doesn't occasionally allow us an external aid to our weak faith from time to time. I think that's what the Dead Sea Scrolls were, because of the attacks on the Bible over the last century or so -- now we can see that our OT is the same as the one they had that far back. And maybe the Bethlehem Star study is such an aid too. But God is sparing with such aids -- BECAUSE we are to walk by faith and not by sight, BECAUSE faith is our evidence.

Speaking of computer problems, I just spent five and a half hours trying to get help from Norton (Symantec) -- took four and a half to get hold of the appropriate technician and another hour for him to discover he couldn't set up a remote connection with my computer for some reason. Now I don't know what I'm going to do. I hope they at least refund my money.

Time to uninstall Norton...it's always been crap and get AVG....user free and very effective. Or...burn the PC and get a MAC. Macs don't get worms, virus' or trojans.

As I said, it's a delight to see when God shows us the obvious...I certainly will continue to delight in it.

Thanks, WHT, I hope your weekend was nice, too.

Bah. Macs don't run worms, viruses, or trojans because they don't run anything else either.

;)

There's an older "proof" of the Exodus story, in the Egyptian Ipuwer Papyrus if anyone is ready to have their minds blown by a contemporary account.

Egyptian chariot wheels on a ship?

(that just penetrated my skull)

"Egyptian chariot wheels on a ship?

Why not...what hadn't penetrated your skull was that maybe the "chariots" were being transported? Either to Egypt or from? I suppose that you'd be just as incredulous 1000 years from now to have found a Maserk ship on the bottom of any ocean / sea...with BMW wheels on the bottom? sheesh.

Anon: How did the Israelites cross the "Red Sea" on dry ground? Do tsunamis and earthquakes dry the ground when they occur in "shallow" lakes? Might the Israelites get bogged down in mud and silt if natural occurnces account for the parting of the sea? Is the bottom of a 2" deep shallow lake hard enough to support the wheels of the Israelites wagons but too soggy for the smaller chariots of the Egyptians?

Have you ever walked in the shallows of Lake Okeechobee in Florida? I have. It is very slow going.

Trust and Faith in the Word of God is much easier to accept.

I see it's near impossible to offer a counter point of view around here? My theory on chariot wheels and tsunamis was just that...a theory. Must I blindly accept the scriptures or "ancient" descriptions of events that were handed down orally...ear to ear or mouth to pen then back to the ear again? What you have is faith...nothing more. And it's not to demean faith either. Scientific proof goes along way in dispelling many myths carried down thru the centuries.

All I offered was another possible explanation of the events. Yet no one wants to discuss the possibility in an objective way.

Speaking of shallow...

Susannah said...

C'mon now, Anon. Don't say nobody wanted to discuss 'natural world' phenomena. I'm perfectly happy to do so - as I said in my previous comment. Funny, I offered a perfectly reasonalbe question that nobody (including yourself) wanted to discuss...

"One question...WHO do those folks think created & controls seas...tsunamis...earthquakes?"

You don't hear me calling anybody 'shallow' & denigrating their/your point of view just b/c nobody took my bait...tsk, tsk.

If you want to talk, I'm game! Bring it...!

Anonymous said...

""One question...WHO do those folks think created & controls seas...tsunamis...earthquakes?"

Go ahead...tell me. I have my own theory based upon a bit of science.

Z said...

Anonymous...we do like to discuss differing viewpoints, especially if the person offering them is civil (of course, last time I said that the person completely turned into the most UNcivil debater going, which was sad but....)

Anyway, that this could have been a natural event causing the parting of the Sea is obvious, isn't it? And, today, scientific reasons seem to weigh heavier than faith, no? This is why these articles are so interesting, so very edifying and reassuring.
By the way, I don't believe tsunamis happen in rivers..period. just sayin'....

Nobody has to really defend that scientific side..we all know that. But, the arguments here on the faith side, I thought, were very interesting.......don't you?

Faith mustn't be without question...Paul, I believe, advises seeking, asking, questioning, if I have that right.
Most of the Christians at my blog are VERY learn-ed, very intelligent; people of high academic background, too...

Susannah said...

Z~ You are so very wise. Kudos to everything you just said; & thank you for adding a bit of temperance to what appears to be a baited argument. Your wisdom settles the dander that was about to start flying here... ;)

Anon~ First, let's find a name, shall we?

Second, out of deference to Z, how 'bout lets take this elsewhere, instead of roiling her lovely post w/ the cat fight that you seem determined to have. I'm not keen on that kind of argument, though.

If you really want to broaden your perspective, you can explore my post which is based 'upon a bit of science,' with a lot of faith mixed in. They're not mutually exclusive; hadn't you heard? ;)

Z said...

Suzanne, I am starting to feel I can't mention faith on the blog anymore without somehow unwittingly generating arguments among Christians....
A bad witness to non believers because they take it differently than that really is, and because it's depressing to believers, as edifying as it might be.

I'm hoping we can give information, even contradictory information, in Christian, loving ways...and hated considering stopping my Sunday Faith Blog this last weekend.

I'll be buy your blog later today...got to run this morning. Thanks! xxx

Susannah...I hope you know I did NOT mean YOU! It's nobody in particular..we ALL get into trouble here from time to time on this subject!
Just read my remark again and wondered if you'd thought it was you..or if anybody else took all the onus, because it is SO not the case!!
Forgive me ;)

Those of you still reading this thread, please see Susannah's blog post about PRUNING, it's exquisite.

No problems at all, dear Z! "If I had a nickel for every time" I've been called Suzanne...well, we know how that one goes, don't we? ;)

And, I've been known to stoke an argument when it wasn't my place to do so (ouch!). So, even if it wasn't me to whom you were referring, it's a nice reminder to us all, no? ;)

(Thanks for the nod toward my 'pruning' post.)
