Wait till you see THIS! Here's the AP article's first paragraph:
SPOKANE, Wash. – Three cleanup workers who were hailed as heroes after finding a live bomb along the route of a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Spokane said they later lost their jobs after supervisors questioned their handling of the situation.
Then there's this...
"We'd go out, and we'd clean up parking lots," he said. "Who knows what happens when you see a backpack sitting there? The first reaction is to pick it up and that's what we did, and we opened it, saw wires sticking out of it and called police."
But, they've been FIRED. I guess the moral of the story is: next time you see anything looking suspicious, let it be; you might do the slightest thing wrong and get fired. Never mind that hundreds of lives might be saved? Is this a message we want to send?
geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeZ!

The insanity just continues. I am beyond being surprised by anything any more.
I heard yesterday that there has been an arrest.
Maybe they were afraid someone would report that was a wallet in their bomb backpack and money came up missing.
Has anyone from CAIR called to claim the bomb from the lost and found?
That said, it's Labor Ready temp service. I'm sure they'll be contracted for next year's MLK parade.
Z, what they did is way too personally responsible-- can't have that. They were supposed to call and have some incompetent bureaucrats handle it.
They weren't public sector DPW employees, they worked for a private contractor.
The private contractor needs to follow procedures, or he loses his contract. Failure to follow proper procedures is a punishable offense.
Had the workers been public sector DPW employee's, they'd still be heroes and probably given bonuses, but since they worked for the private sector, they're expendable goats.
It's the public sector/private sector double standard. Same work, same workers, different standards. One strict, the other "flexible". Don't like it? Next time DEMAND that workers in the public sector be fired when they seek to privately enrich themselves (look into backpacks) instead of granting them a pass. And ESPECIALLY hold your public officials to THAT standard. They don't learn to be as corrupt that way.
From the looks of it, the reward for being diligent in one's job is to lose the job. It does seem to send the message to others that they need only meet the mediocre standards expected of them.
So some temporary workers aren't rehired and their word is gospel.
Nothing to see here folks, move along. Try Wisconsin, Sierra Leone, Libya, Japan ... poor old world is having it's troubles and this story ain't one of them.

Excuse me Ducky, but who made you the GEEEZ! director?
It sure as hell wasn't Z, whose blog this happens to be.
If you want to have a say, start your own damn blog.
Pris
Ducky, sometimes I don't think you have the decency or foresightedness to realize how important this post is. I hope I'm wrong, I really do.
Gramma...imagine?
Beamish, that question about CAIR is hilarious...!!
Karen, personal responsibility isn't in the vocabulary of many Americans anymore, is it.
AOW, exactly..
Pris, thanks...what else is new?
Apparently, a couple of people want my blog; with the Righthaven threats coming (and nobody kid yourself this isn't backed by leftwingers), I may have to.
RNC, "Double Standard" You're KIDDING! (smile, a little sarcasm there!)
thanks for your info, I appreciate it...though it's so upsetting.
Hayden, hi...MEDIOCRE is something the leftwing's been hoping for and, brother, are they GETTING IT. Can't reward anybody for doing good work because the one who didn't might feel bad! (that's actually happened in our schools for about 15 years now) Amazing stuff..
Duck, you were on another blog using the people of Japan as a prop to attack nuclear power. Now your worried about them?
This may have been a case of insensitivity. This bomb may have been set by a disillusioned Palestinian who is hurt because some Israeli's moved into his neighborhood. Quite frankly these men should learn to be a little more tolerant of other cultures.
I am truly at a loss for words. I am simply astonished of how ignorant people are.
Those men should be commended not reprimanded.
Good grief!
That sounds just like those border patrol guys, the two that were imprisoned that Bush would not pardon who were jailed for doing their jobs. Sound familiar? Yah think?
You said it, "geeeeeeeeeeeez!"
Leticia, "Good grief" is right!
Layla, that is EXACTLY why I named this blog that...."GeeeeZ, there is SO much to say GEEEEEEEZ about these days!"
Duhkkky you should save your message for the president who's been out golfing and gave his weekend radio address on gender equality
Thanks for your kind words today. You have no idea how often I think of you and all that you have lost. I did not realize it has been 17 months since your DH went home. You are so right about everything. I console myself with having had my mother in my life for so long. She would have turned 90 a week after she left us. Our faith is what sustains us through everything.
Z,
It just isn't clear to me that these guys were actually FIRED for finding a bomb, and it sounded like Labor Ready had given them another assignment. It's not unusual for someone using Labor Ready to find work be moved around. One day you're cleaning parking lots, the next day you might be diggng ditches... temp labor services are rather mercenary, you take what they give you... or don't.
Cleaning up a parking lot after a parade or special event isn't ever going to be a regular job.

EB, they are two of a kind and both full of chit!
Perhaps they should have left the bags at the offices of the A-Holes who fired them. Just unbelievable that this sort of BS can happen, that there are scumbags like these in positions of power.
Beamish, I'm thinking there'd be no story if there was absolutely no connection...
but they're fired AND eligible to work again should they want...
it's weird, but the article DID say they handled it wrong......
If the guys hadn't done what they did I don't know how many would have been killed....and, apparently, they didn't do the right thing. AND they weren't trained, apparently...maybe we need to start training people who do what they do. After all, we're asked to be on guard for suspicious lone packages on the ground at the airport.
Z, I think Ducky’s mean spirited behavior results from a personal tragedy. You see, AFLAC recently fired him for his gross insensitivity.
Oh, crap ... that was Gilbert Gottfried.
Sorry.
Well, I guess there isn’t any excuse for his ratty behavior.
"If you want to have a say, start your own damn blog...
He already has Ms. Prisc.....a huge wad in his diapers...a "blog" of Boston bullshit.
"for the president who's been out golfing....
I used to be a caddy in my summer months off from school. No matter what they asked for, I'd always hand them a 9 iron.
But for Obbie....I'd personally shove a wedge up his crack.

Mustang, that is hilarious!
