Are we COMPLETELY crazy, or is this really the end of America as we knew it?

Did you hear that there is a new PACT that Iraq is making with 'us'?

Please read that link....I have a few comments to make about this incredible idea and I'm hoping you'll chime in:

IF PASSED:

-THE IRAQIS will be able to sue our soldiers and contractors for having gone there to save them from a mad dictator who killed people at his will, creating a society afraid to voice their opinions or do anything that might call attention to themselves which could warrant their entrance into shredders? We killed innocent civilians in our persuit to save Iraq and they're suing..US? Can WE find all those who used Iraqis as human shields and sue THEM now?

-WE have to leave by 2011 UNLESS THE IRAQIS feel they'd like US to stay to support and train them more? We have the pleasure of coming back at their bidding?

-THE IRAQIS will have greater control of our Green Zone?

How's about our suing Iraq for not having guarded the oil production we were supposed to be paid back with for having gone to the extent we have to save their country?

How about suing them for the deaths of all of our soldiers because they allowed insurgents in?

How about suing all Mus lims for the deaths of Daniel Pearl and the others who've been beheaded?

Do you think the French might sue us now for running the Germans out? Why NOT?

My answer to this PACT? We're leaving tomorrow and only leaving soldiers at the Iraqi border so we can still have boots near enough Iran, where the real problems lie. You're on your own, Iraq. Enjoy.

Such perversions make me so sick this is why I can barely stand thinking about politics at all, and why I'm SO glad I know I'm not a citizen of this world. The only real comfort any more is knowing there is a Just Judge who rules it all and will make it all right at the very end.

I believe it's called a SOFA - Status of Forces Agreement and probably runs a lot like the ones we have with other countries Korea, Japan....etc.

I don't believe anyone should be able to sue another country for the deaths of innocents while there's a war going on, Elbro, do you??

This appears to be a standard “Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA).” Such agreements exist with every nation with whom we station US military forces. Many years ago, western nations forced extraterritoriality upon host nations; it was an agreement that if any of our military personnel committed crimes they would not be subject to foreign laws, courts, or incarceration. They would rather be charged, tried, and sentenced by American courts . . . mostly military or naval courts. One can imagine how unhappy “host nations” would be under such arrangements. In the late-1960s, a serviceman murdered and mutilated an Okinawan bargirl. He received seven years imprisonment for this offense, along with a dishonorable discharge. Under Japanese law, he would have received a much more severe punishment.

I don’t have a problem with SOFA agreements, and I do think it is fair that a military or civilian contractor who violates the sanctity of life or property in Iraq should answer to Iraqi justice. Conversely, if an Iraqi soldier committed a crime here in the US while attending a military school, he would answer to a US court.

As to an agreement to withdraw by 2011 . . . well, it is their country (now). We gave it back to them. I do suspect, however, that the liberal wording, “. . . unless the Baghdad government asks some of them to stay for training or security support, the officials said” enables two things: (1) It provides wiggle room for Iraqi politicians, and (2) It leaves the door open for further negotiations should Iran desire to create mischief within that area of the Middle East.

I’m already being labled a racist simply because I refuse to vote for Barack Obama. I’ve heard what he has to say, I’ve seen what little he’s done as far as a leader or a legislator, and I know his track record for liberalism and his Marxist Ideals. I simply don’t like what he stands for and I don’t like the direction he plans on taking this country.I could give a damn that he’s black, excuse me, African-American. His race means nothing to me. It’s not the color of their skin it’s the content of their hearts and souls. It seems the only people that are making Obama’s race an issue in this election are Obama himself and his fellow Democrats. They seem to be the only people bringing up his “funny name” and that fact that he’s black. Not once have I ever heard McCain, Palin or any other Republican mention his race in this election. The reason I am voting for McCain and Palin are simply because they best represent my interests and my values. I believe in a strong military and a strong defense for this great nation. I think that America is the greatest Nation in this world, a Country I’m proud of. I don’t think America is mean and I am not proud of America simply because Barack Obama was nominated. I am a born citizen of the United States of America, not a citizen of the world. I hold my hand over my heart when I hear the Star Spangled Banner and because I have a son fighting in a turd world country for our freedom I even tear up upon hearing it. I recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag with great pride in this country and what it stands for. I believe in lowering taxes. I believe I know best what to do with my money and I don’t feel it should be redistributed to someone who has not worked hard for it as I have. I did not sweat and bleed for some crack whore who got knocked up screwing some douchebag in order to score some more dope.I don't need this guy to have a "vision" for me. And neither should you!!!!!!! We should have visions for ourselves and stop looking to the government for help!!!!!!!!!!! Let's forget about all of the facts except how he continuously proves that he could have been a character in "Animal Farm." Obama is like the King of Handouts. Watching him pander and promise handouts to ignorant people truly disgusts me. But his presentation skills are good yws, but that only shows how much of a phoney he really is. He knows how to BS people,I'll give him credit for that. Obama is a socialist if I've ever seen one. If you want our country to be more like Cuba, just vote for this guy. He can definitely assist us in our goal of becoming a third-world country - And it doesn't make people racist because they don't support him politically. he is obviously trying to play "whiteguilt.I believe in Freedom of Religion and not freedom FROM religion. Yes, I am one of those people Obama spoke of to his rich elitist friends in San Fransisco who cling to their religion. And speaking of clinging…. Yes, by G-d, I cling to my gun and any schmuck who ventures into the territory of taking that right from me is worthy of my suspicion and does not deserve my vote. It was the gun that won our freedom, it is the gun that preserves that freedom. While we’re at it, the man called Barack Obama who wants to lead the free world, sat for twenty years in a congregation of a preacher that spoke of racial hatred and despised this country, yet says that he never knew about Pastor Wright’s feelings of hatred toward whites, Jews, and America in general. Anyone who is that oblivious does not deserve to lead even a troop of Boy Scouts let alone a nation, and further more, if he is so full of himself that he thinks for one freaking minute I believe that he (Obama) was not aware of Pastor Wright’s hate speeches, then once again, that man does not deserve my vote.As for his association with known terrorists and criminals, that’s just the icing on the cakeBut, honestly, Obama's a flash in the pan. You'll see, mark my words I read the books - I'm not impressed

A SOFA agreement is fine so long as it's not used as a cudgel by anti-American, anti-freedom forces in other countries. Sadly those who hate America all too often get their way.

Where does the billion in aide money we've already sent to Iraq figure into future lawsuits?

Do we get a credit balance to start?

So, Tony C writes one simple sentence and nails it better than my whole blog piece. Thanks, Tony.

I do not think that the same soldiers who've done the best they can should EVER be brought up in a court like this..the language is absolutely insulting and demeaning and America's bigger and so far, far better than that. Did you all READ it the article? the way it's put?

No, as much as I feel NO SOLDIER ought to be impervious to any kind of correction if he really erred, we know what will happen with this. Iraq will pick Jack Murtha to be the lynchman. I exaggerate but you get the point. How do we get soldiers to soldier when they're hand tied by things like this? How do we get police recruits in this country when they're under the scrutiny they're under....when people are SO eager to find THEM wrong??

The thought of an army going in to free a country and then that country taking to court those who might have been imperfect in securing that country to court is appalling to me. HUMAN SHIELDS have been used!!

I'm willing to listen. Help me see where this could be taken as a positive move and not another chance for America to be HUGELY and insultingly DUMPED ON IN THE ATMOSOPHERE WE"RE IN TODAY.

I really am paying attention to Mustang, Elbro, shoprat, as usual...but on this, I need BIG HELP.

eric..well done. We're on YOUR side here. How do you feel about this SOFA thing?

cj.yup.

I'mglad I read the article before I commented. This SOFA isn't terribly different than a lot of others we have. At first I thought the Iraqi courts would have jurisdiction over our people for anything they did over there. THAT would have opened a whole new can of worms. The 2011 part is fine, we'll be close to finished by then anyway. I'm sure they will still want us to train them, especially the Air Force, and whatever else they are still lacking in. I would be surprised if all of our combat brigades weren't home by then anyway.

Actually the ones they want to sue are the mercenaries. A really fine group of men. At the moment these thugs can commit felony murder without recourse.

Sorry, that's not the type of thing decent people should allow.

read it again, Ducky. You're wrong.
