MILITARY TIMES ELECTION POLL....GENERAL POWELL??? Was it RACE?

Here is the MILITARY TIMES poll of soldiers as categorized below:

If the Presidential election were held today, for whom would you vote?

McCain Obama
Overall 68 23
Army 68 23
Navy 69 24
Air Force 67 24
Marines 75 18
Retirees 72 20
White Non-Hispanic 76 17
Hispanic 63 27
Black/African-American 12 79
Enlisted 67 24
Officers 70 22

I think it says a lot about the Iraq War, too. These are people who might have to stay longer if McCain wins and this country doesn't turn tail and run..... These people are deeply involved, aren't they?

(PLEASE CHECK OUT RICH GALEN'S PIECE ON MEET THE PRESS AND COLIN POWELL BELOW.......VERY GOOD STUFF!)

I'm surprised the numbers for Obama are as high as they are.

The officers are the best educated, Pinky.......that's pretty telling. Huge McCain percentage there...

I was pleased to see Hispanics were so highly in favor of mcCain...you know, I honestly think THAT is the key number in this poll...the most indicative of what could happen here. EVERY hispanic friend I have here in LA is a true-blue conservative. Most Cubans are, too. Very interesting.

When you live in troublesome areas, socialist places, you can't vote for an OBAMA. Eastern Europeans are HUGE conservatives, too. They've alreay 'been there, done that' and they didn't risk their lives (I have Hungarian and Romanian friends who literally did) to go through that again here!

About two more weeks and it'll all be over but the crying. I hope I'm wrong. Miracles do occur.

For Powell to expect anyone with two neurons to rub together to believe that this isn't completely, totally, and 100% about race is ludicrous.

Just like Oprah didn't want to host Sarah Palin on her show because... um, why didn't Oprah want Palin on her show again?

We're too stupid to connect the dots or maybe not brave enough.

Z, you know that only white people are racist. You've got it all totally backwards!

Yeaaaah.

hermit, there aren't enough tears.
We're invited to an election night 'party'...my stipulation was "only Conservatives attending? then we'll be there"
As far as Black talk show hosts calling for rioting if Obama loses, I reminded our host and he said he'd provide an armored vehicle back to our house if McCain wins....I asked who was supplying Valium!! i'm dreading that night. Imagine having LUDIKRUS performing at the inaugural balls?
Why not? Clinton had Fleetwood Mac? I happen to like ALL this music, but will we EVER get back to dignity again?

CUBE..not brave enough.
Brooke....HOW COULD I? SO SORRY!! LOL!

And yet, the thing they have NEVER BOTHERED FIXING is the problem with absentee ballots - sadly, the overwhelming majority of absentee ballots are all military folk stationed overseas.

Z said...

but they do get counted, Steve.

Steve Harkonnen said...

No.....not all of them get counted, much thanks to our dilapidated and overworked mail system, or the deliberate intervention of liberal postal workers.

Now take this information and extapolate it by the numbers of former military people who are now voting as civilians.

Your piece the other day solicited information about polling data. I think it is skewed, and that McCain is doing much better than even Baraaaaccccck believes.

No doubt Daffy will show up any moment and tell us again how stupid most military people are.

Z said...

steve..how do you know they don't?

mustang, I was waiting for the feathered one to come back with that, too. Well, you know those Naval Academy and other JERKS, right? Just NO education at ALL (LOL!)
and yes....extrapolation of these numbers, and then taking into consideration the wives, parents and children of these military people, could be quite something....quite different than the ENTITLED ONE has even considered.

Ducky's here said...

I'll do no such thing , mustang (besides, I'm on a good behavior pledge today).

What concerns me is that after the Obama election if he is successful (and he should be) in turning the wealth transfer back toward the middle class and things get much better in this country, will the right be able to accept the error of their recent ways.

Z said...

ducky...he wants to raise taxes on business. Do you think those businesses are going to absorb the costs or are their prices to the middle class going up? you know the answer to that.
The Middle Class is going to pay through the nose.
Also, how does anyone think taxing corporations higher is going to keep jobs here? Just tell me.
Not that ANYTHING you could say would convince me that a man with this much baggage and his awful redistribution dreams deserves my vote.

Frankly, Ducky...I think you're too smart to have fallen for this....and I'm QUITE sure that you and many other liberals are voting more against McCain than for Obama. That is a very, very dangerous mistake for this country.

Most of us are not McCain fans, but we know his background, his family, his goals, are all pro America.

McCain didn't tell ACORN that he'd have them to the White House BEFORE the inauguration to come help him shape the agenda for this country. How COULD you, Ducky? WE bicker and have for years at FPM, but I've never found you unAmerican or stupid...

It's one thing to hate McCain..fine, go ahead. But to vote for Obama and throw a blind eye at all the evidence is astonishing.

You know very well that McCain and the Republicans who're trying to keep Americans free from restrictions and regulations will never succeed...there are FAR too many illegals and poor and young students who feel entitled, that America OWES them, that we'll never have the beautiful capitalist system we once had..ever, but to want CHANGE THIS HUGE? WHY? Why not let middle class people work hard and do better and then, maybe, they can be the same rich who DESERVE what they made and don't feel anybody deserves a bit of it..but WILL GIVE out of the goodness of their American hearts?

God bless America's brave service men and women, both for their service and patriotism, and for their political stand. It speaks VOLUMES about the correctness of our wars when you see this kind of support from the people fighting them! Who would know better than them?

Let's win one for Joe the Plumber
Joe symbolizes the American Dream, that through hard work and self-determination, you can achieve financial success.

Obama wants to take that dream away. He does not respect the hard work you do to earn your money. He does not respect any sacrifices you may have had to make in order to achieve your dreams.

Obama thinks you deserve nothing, that the money you have worked for is not yours to claim. Obama thinks that money should belong to him, to redistribute as he sees fit.

Obama has a dream that would prove to be a nightmare for Joe, and all the millions of Americans like him.

We conservatives need to get off our @sses, and do whatever it takes to strip Obama of his communist dream, before he destroys ours.

Let's win this election for Joe the Plumber, and send that b@stard Obama back from where he came.

bob..I'm WITH you!

Joe Biden....no, the earth ISN'T flat..SURPRISE (just today on the phone, my mother told me that my father, who died 14 years ago, didn't like Biden...we'd never really talked specific politicians, Dad and I, but I suddenly loved Dad even MORE than before..and THAT goes some! Hat's off, Daddy)

GREAT comments...thanks, everybody. We've GOT to win this election

These white, non-hispanics are clearly racist.

Duck, you've gott to know in your heart this "tax break" is not for the middle class, it's income redistribution from the hard working wealthy and middle class to those who don't have the ambition to make their own way.

For all the legitimate good Colin Powell did as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and as Secretary of State, he has always been a liberal in conservative clothing.

We were TOLD that it was going to be President Gore... and then President Kerry. Why would God have any of us stay home and not vote when the stakes are Obama high?

Z said...

tmw..thanks, that is encouraging! Too bad most people have never heard of Michael Powell.

The housing market's picking up (home sales in California up 65%, etc.)....uhoh...the media'd better start naysaying it again and FAST, huh?

Pasadena, I think Powell stopped doing 'good' during the Gulf War...

defiant....exactly. HELP!

We can only hope that those in the military vote and in great numbers. It doesn't suprise me that they are for McCain.....common sense prevails!

Z said...

jennifer, that's an encouraging thing I heard today about the military vote and POwell...Someone on TV said "The military knows what's important and they don't need to go to Powell for his recommendation of Obama, they have McCain who's a real military hero" in other words, if military is that important, they don't have to go far from our candidate....plus, imagine how many national guardsmen we have here, how many wives, parents and children of all those military in my stats who will vote like their soldier..some hope there.

That poll is an eye-opener. All we hear interviewed are the pro-Obama military. Really interesting.

It's not over until Babs Streisand sings.

Average American said...

Karen, are you calling babs fat? lol

The military is definitely a big plus, as it always is for republicans. I hope it will be even bigger than usual this year. The poll results for black troops makes quite a statement doesn't it? Who says racism is dead?

Anonymous said...

No surprises there that the black soldiers are voting Obama. The tearing between conservative sanity and democratic madness must be a torment though.

IF I were cynical, I would say Powell used the Republican party at a time when the Democrats had no use for him.

The endorsement by Colin Powell ( The man named after a rectem) was not a surprise to anyone. It was a foregone conclusion, with the timing decided when Obama needed something to change the subject. He was getting beat up by Joe the plumber and called Colin Powell who had been waiting in the wings to be summoned. No surprise, and does not cover Powell in glory for his claim to have thought about this long and hard. If he thought about it long and hard, it was to come up with some plausible excuse why he could stab his 'friend' in the back.

Colin's colon
Or Powell's bowel
Is where he does his thinking
And so his words are stinking.
Though he's not gay,
One could easily say
His rectum wrecked him.
Touché!
