Have a Light-Filled Sunday!

"God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:5

Those of you who celebrate Reformation Sunday, enjoy the services, and say a prayer for Z as she solos "How Great Thou Art" this morning. Thanks! (at about 10:20 PST)

Wow, z. You soloed How Great Thou Art? I'm hugely impressed that you could do that and also with your choice. That is a magnificent hymn and I haven't heard it for years. I hope it went well. God bless.

I would loved to have heard you sing it, Z.

Takes courage to do something like that. And no small amount of talent.

G'morning my friend..thanks for the inspiration!

I sing so well that I threaten my students with my singing if they aren't participating enough in classroom discussions. It usually does the trick. Congrats and I hope it went well.

NO NO NO!! I need prayers...! I haven't sung yet now, at 8:30 AM PST) Don't forget the TIME DIFFERENCE! I go on in two hours....about 10:30 PST....1:30 EST...so get prayin', folks..that's an order!! (smile)! (and thanks for all the nice words!!)

Ya, it's not an easy song and I sing it lower than I usually sing....sounds richer and soothes my nerves!

But, you know? Some of you are newer friends and may not know I am a jazz singer (and did a lot of Rock 'n Roll in college and a little after...that's why I LOVE Law and Order Teacher's blog...among other reasons..good MUSIC from MY DAYS!)...and, when you sing in a restaurant bar or jazz venue, it's nerve wracking "Do they like my voice?" "Do I look okay!?"
Somehow, in church, I don't get that...almost NO nerves. It's like you're GIVING the song to the congregation to inspire them, not DOING the song for applause. Does that make sense? I don't mean to sound Holy Roller, all of you know I'm not!(I hope), but I have to admit that's the feeling I've had since singing in BOTH 'venues'.

The words DO make me a little weepy, that's mostly what my prayer request is today; let me get through it (only the 1st and (killer)3rd verse, for you who know it!..for those who don't..LOOK IT UP!!!)

Well you'll be singing in ten minutes. You have my prayers Z, but you don't need them.

You have a beautiful voice and I know with that inspiration you mention, it will make everyone there take notice and be inspired as well.

Break a leg!

How did the solo go? Are yu a soprano?

Z has a sexy purring throaty voice(I'm sure these are not meaningful terms to real musicians), a voice perfect for jazz, but of course it will do a beautiful How Great Thou Art as well. She should post a link to something of hers for the gang here.

I can't get through a lot of hymns without crying but I wasn't here early enough to pray for you. Hope it went well.

It really went well....our praise worship guy who never compliments anybody said he cried. I like that! :-)
Thanks, everybody.

Ducky, I'd say I'm a mezzo....alto...but I have also done the Lakme Duet, so go figure! Pretty wide range.

cj..my biggest fear was I'd cry and I didn't ... I started paying attention to the words (the 2nd verse is the killer) and started to 'go there', then bucked up and thought "Sing the darn thing, they don't need your emotions, they've got their own!" and I got back on track for the 'big finish'...held the high note waaay longer than I usually hold anything. But, a few close friends said they heard the emotion in my voice and got choked up.

Thanks for the prayers, those who gave me a thought...it helped.

It's all good, I guess....whatever happens.

God Bless you Z! Wish i coulda heard it. Our pastor had a tremndous sermon today on Jesus' Olivet Discourse in Mt.24. Even so, come Lord Jesus!

You may not have noticed it, but I let you know that per your request there's a new post at my blog! God Bless!

You should have had someone tape it and post it to YouTube (You could still make yourself anonymous and not have the camera pointed at you- or blur your face, if you don't want to be identified).

Please accept my most humble apologies for being so late today Z. I have had a full day. I was busy cooking chili this morning for a benefit chili lunch at my church. There is a lady who lost her newborn baby and then the stress caused her heart to fail. She is now in need of a heart transplant that they are judging to be a year and a half away. Very sad story indeed. Then the family and I went to look at a cabin that we were considering to buy to place on our land. We wound up purchasing the cabin and so we are very happy indeed to have a place there at our land to stay in. Like I said...busy day. Much love from the Frank family to you and Mr. Z!!!

By the way -- the song you sung causes tears to well up in my eyes whenever I hear the words:

"And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!"

Beautiful Z -- simply beautiful!!!

Oh, Pops...I'm glad you're here.
You've always been so kind about the Sunday blog that I look forward to your reaction every week, it pleases me!

As for HOW GREAT THOU ART...leave it to you! I sang it slowly and am not a "let's do EVERY verse" type of hymn person (Pastor would do the full 22 verses of ANY hymn if it had 22 verses) so I only sang two verses; the first, and the third, the one you mentioned!

Great minds. I believe it's the best verse....."I scarce can take it in.."

I had trouble getting thru it at the rehearsal but finally buckled down and did okay today...!!

HOW WONDERFUL about the cabin! I wish we could come and have a house warming for you!!
Can't wait to see PICTURE (hint hint)

The story about the young woman who lost her baby is so tragic it's hard to think about....poor woman! Good that you're all helping. wow.

Gorgeous, Z. I'm sure you sounded glorious as you praised the Lord with your voice today.
