Michelle Obama's splurge

So, Mrs. Obama had a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate malt and it was 1,700 calories.
Do you begrudge her this meal and accuse her of hypocrisy, as some are doing now, or do you think it's good to eat sensibly (as she lectures) and splurge once in a while?
I'm for the latter and think she's taking undeserved heat........YOU?

Z - I say eat healthy and splurge once in a while.

She does deserve the heat, sorry but you cannot be so vocal about saying we should eat certain things and then not follow the same guidelines.

Like the saying you can't have your cake and eat it, too, well you can't tell me not to eat the cake but you get to eat it.

She can say and eat whatever the heck she wants, provided that she pays for her food.

She runs afoul of me when she wants to press government into making me "eat healthy," or pay for her health care.

I think when the First Lady put's pressure on the food industry to change their ways, she can't very well have credibility if she downs cheeseburgers, fries, and malts like they're going out of style.

She talks a big game, but can't walk it. This is supposed to be her signature issue, so if it is, she at least has to look like she means it.

I don't begrudge her any meal, but having said that, she ought to keep the food police under wraps, and leave us alone.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to eat an ice cream sandwich. Yum!

I am so glad that Mrs Obama finally exhibited some type of American behavior.

Cheeseburgers rule!

Sue, I'm with you and do that myself.
When I see people thirty and younger say "I wish I could have a hamburger but they're not healthy" I tell them "Eat them now from time to time, you won't be able to so much when you're older!" :-)

Beth, I'm not sure she ever said to NEVER eat something fun once in a while. Man, this is a new one; me, sticking up for HER :-)

Beamish...I agree

Pris, she didn't eat it as if it were going out of style; I just felt it's a bad rap when someone indulges in a guilty sin from time to time but usually eats more healthily.
I agree with you, however; we don't need to be told how and what to eat, that is FOR SURE!

Bob, I LOVE THEM, TOO!!

If I go to Diet Center and see my weight counselor is gorging herself, how much longer will I be willing to pay the weekly fee at Diet Center?

And, yes, I did use Diet Center from 1985-1997. My weight counselor set a good example.

Hi, AOW..
Maybe I don't binge as much as I'd like to(No 'maybe' about it, I never met a fried food I didn't LOVE!), so I'm feeling a little defensive toward it!!?!!! :-)

Frankly I am tired of watching the Obamas eat and the media who "ooh" and "ahhh" over their indulgences

I don't care what she eats. I don't care what they do as a family. I DO care that they (read government) are trying to get into every aspect of our lives! Let parents make parental decisions!

Pris, have your tried the new Magnum bars? Oh my goodness!!!!

Seems in character to me. This is the spouse of the hypocritical pretender to the throne, right? The one who was never proud to be an American???

Z,
It is yet another example of how the Obamas' attitude of the rules don't apply to us elitists.

Honestly, I've seen so many pictures of the Obamas stuffing their faces that I'm losing my taste for binge eating.

You know, so many of your comments are right. It does seem like we hear a lot about Wednesday night soirees with amazing food, having chefs flown in from Chicago, going to NYC for dinner, football game meals.......
Maybe you're right and this isn't just a 'binge'? After all, even the mainstream Obama-adoring media covered this story; maybe they're getting to see a little hypocrisy here, too?
(as IF) :)

If Moooochelle wants to lecture others, then the 'do as I say and not as I do' thing does not fly.

If she wants to STFU and practice what she preaches, whatever.

Isn't 1700 calories about an appropriate intake for an entire DAY for a woman of her age and weight?

Linda, no I haven't, but i'll sure look for it my next trip to the market. Thanks!

beamish - Did you know that presidents actually do pay for their own food? That is, the personal everyday groceries that their family consumes. Not for State Dinners, of course. (':

This is such a double standard. Michelle Obama tells kids to eat healthy but MSM says nothing when they see her eating unhealthy. Think the media would have been so hush-hush if they'd seen Nancy "Just Say No" Reagan smoking a doobie on the South Lawn?

(this has been a joke)

BFTM, it's funny but it's apt....let's face it.

Personally, I LOVE a food binge very occasionally and I still can't get the steam with which to criticize this woman too much!!
Let's face it, at least it isn't LOBSTER$$ this time, her very favorite!

I know it's an old topic....but...

I don't think she's a hypocrite. It's not unhealthy to eat an occasional burger, fries and shake.

Too much of ANY thing is bad for you and this seems to be a rarity for her. No big deal to me.

Seems kind of silly and nit-picky to me, to cast stones about 1 fast food meal.

P31Mom....I agree with you; as you can see in my comments.
