The Blind Sheikh gets a new friend.........

Remember the "Blind Sheikh" or Omar Abdel-Rahman, who is serving a life sentence in a federal prison for his role in the 1993 bombing that killed six people in lower Manhattan?
Well, Egypt's president-elect, sworn in today, has vowed to win the release of the Egyptian cleric jailed by the U.S. for planning the first attack on New York's World Trade Center (the 1993 bombing).  Maybe he thinks the fact that Abdel-Rahman was convicted and is serving a life sentence isn't a roadblock in our country anymore?  After all, this is the new America, he's thinking, maybe laws don't stand much anymore?  Or will he use brutal force?

With our government now, how far might he get with his plan?

With the guys singing back-up for him in that picture above, maybe he could get a contract with Motown? :-)

"Forget executive privilege, contempt of Congress, "fast and furious," how many documents the government has produced and who said what to whom on which date.
The Obama administration has almost certainly engaged in the most shockingly vile corruption scandal in the history of the country, not counting the results of Season Eight on "American Idol."
Administration officials intentionally put guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, so that when the guns taken from Mexican crime scenes turned out to be American guns, Democrats would have a reason to crack down on gun sellers in the United States.
Democrats will never stop trying to take our guns away. They see something more lethal than a salad shooter and wet themselves.
But since their party was thrown out of Congress for the first time in nearly half a century as a result of passing the 1994 "assault weapons ban," even liberals know they're going to need a really good argument to pass any limitation on guns ever again.
So it's curious that Democrats all started telling the same lie about guns as soon as Obama became president. In March 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced to reporters on a trip to Mexico: "Since we know that the vast majority, 90 percent of that weaponry (used by Mexican drug cartels), comes from our country, we are going to try to stop it from getting there in the first place."
As she sentimentally elaborated on Fox News' Greta Van Susteren show: "The guns sold in the United States, which are illegal in Mexico, get smuggled and shipped across our border and arm these terrible drug-dealing criminals so that they can outgun these poor police officers along the border and elsewhere in Mexico."
Suddenly that 90 percent statistic was everywhere. It was like the statistic on women beaten by their husbands on Super Bowl Sunday.
CBS' Bob Schieffer asked Obama on "Face the Nation": "It's my understanding that 90 percent of the guns that they're getting down in Mexico are coming from the United States. We don't seem to be doing a very good job of cutting off the gun flow. Do you need any kind of legislative help on that front? Have you, for example, thought about asking Congress to reinstate the ban on assault weapons?"
At a Senate hearing, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said: "It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors ... come from the United States."
And then, thanks to Fox News -- the first network to report it -- we found out the 90 percent figure was complete bunkum. It was a fabrication told by William Hoover, of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), and then spread like wildfire by Democrats and the media.
Mexican law enforcement authorities send only a fraction of the guns they recover from criminals back to the U.S. for tracing. Which guns do they send? The guns that have U.S. serial numbers on them. It would be like asking a library to produce all their Mark Twain books and then concluding that 90 percent of the books in that library are by Mark Twain.
You begin to see why the left hates Fox News so much.
Obama backed away from the preposterous 90 percent claim. His National Security Council spokesman explained to Fox News that by "recovered," they meant "guns traceable to the United States." So, in other words, Democrats were frantically citing the amazing fact that almost all the guns traceable to the U.S. were ... traceable to the U.S.
Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters that even if the percentage is inaccurate, the "vast majority" of guns seized in crimes in Mexico come from the United States. And he should know, because it turns out he was sending them there!
Apart from the guns Holder was giving them, this was an absurd claim. Most of the guns used by drug cartels are automatic weapons -- not to mention shoulder-fired rockets -- that can't be sold to most Americans. They are acquired from places like Russia, China and Guatemala.
Right about the time the 90 percent lie was unraveling, the Obama administration decided to directly hand thousands of American guns over to Mexican criminals. Apart from the fact that tracking thousands of guns into Mexico is not feasible or rational, the dumped guns didn't have GPS tracing devices on them, anyway. There is no conceivable law enforcement objective to such a program.
This is what we know:
(1) Liberals thought it would be a great argument for gun control if American guns were ending up in the hands of Mexican criminals;
(2) They wanted that to be true so badly, Democrats lied about it;
(3) After they were busted on their lie, the Obama administration began dumping thousands of guns in the hands of Mexican criminals.

We also know that hundreds of people were murdered with these U.S.-government-supplied guns, including at least one American, U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.
But let's look on the bright side. The BATF was originally going to ship warheads to Iran until realizing the explosions might disable the tracking devices.
(Contrary to more Democrat lies, there was no such program to dump thousands of guns in Mexico under George W. Bush. The Bush administration did have a program that put GPS trackers on about 100 guns in order to actually trace them. That operation was ended almost as soon as it began because of the lack of cooperation from Mexican officials. You may as well say Holder's program was "started" by the first cop who ever put tracer dye on contraband.)
No one has explained what putting 2,500 untraceable guns in the hands of Mexican drug dealers was supposed to accomplish.
But you know what that might have accomplished? It would make the Democrats' lie retroactively true -- allowing them to push for the same gun restrictions they were planning when they first concocted it. A majority of guns recovered from Mexican criminals would, at last, be American guns, because Eric Holder had put them there.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, some brave whistleblower inside the government leaked details of this monstrous scheme. As soon as Congress and the public demanded answers, Holder clammed up. He just says "oops" -- and accuses Republicans of racism."   Ann Coulter

Then there's this:  "Scott Thomasson
– then the chief of the ATF’s Public Affairs Division – said, according to an eyewitness account: “We need to get whatever dirt we can on these guys [the whistleblowers] and take them down.”
Thomasson also allegedly said that: “All these whistleblowers have axes to grind. ATF needs to f—k these guys.”

"Oooops!  the left will say:  "allegedly"  "according to an eyewitness account?"  Really?   Z: Ya, well,  ATF men involved in F&F testified to CONGRESS the truth as they know it, Eric Holder hasn't produced the papers requested by Republicans and many Democrats, and his department's not prosecuting for contempt regardless of a letter from Congress, and... and............ but, we have to write "allegedly?"

Holder won't prosecute....HIMSELF? .WHAT?

You know, I thought it was absolutely nuts enough when Holder asked two attorneys in his office to investigate him and Fast and Furious.  That was weird, but...okay.


But now THIS?   Holder's "Justice Department" isn't going to prosecute him for Fast and Furious?  
Wait, HIS DEPARTMENT has decided that he HAS turned in all the papers the Republicans AND 67 Democrats signed the contempt charges over?
 
(Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department said on Friday it would not prosecute Attorney General Eric Holder for refusing to turn over to Congress documents about a gun-running scandal to Mexico.
Holder, who heads the Justice Department, was cited on Thursday for contempt of Congress by the Republican-led House of Representatives. The mostly partisan vote of 255-67 marked the first time a sitting attorney general and presidential cabinet member was cited for contempt by the full House.

Are those SIXTY-SEVEN DEMOCRATS who agree with the Republicans that he's not complying just agenda-driven, ideological....?  

So, THAT'S IT?   Is this a DICTATORSHIP?  Is it a JOKE?   Is it POSSIBLE?



By the way, even the Washington Post's blurb that comes on their Email Alerts says "The attorney general oversees the Justice Department." after it says that the department's not prosecuting Holder.   You think THEY might be waking up?   I mean, it's so OBVIOUS that this STINK!

"Let's make clear that we understand what the Court did and did not do. What the Court did today was say that Obamacare does not violate the Constitution. What they did not do was say that Obamacare is good law or that it's good policy."

STAR PARKER IS A ROCK STAR

I went to luncheon where Star Parker spoke yesterday.   I got to talk with her for a while and then hear her speech which was riveting. I took a lot of notes for you while she spoke, but Wikipedia really encapsulates her here:


"A conservative African American woman, Parker spent her teen and early adult years as an unemployed mother on welfare. She has chronicled her teenaged arrests for shoplifting and her having had four abortions. After embracing the Christian religion, Parker embarked upon a career as a spokesperson for conservative social and political causes. She opposes many public entitlements, claiming that welfare is similar to an invitation to a government plantation, which creates a situation where those who accept the invitation switch mindsets from "How do I take care of myself?" to "What do I have to do to stay on the plantation?" She claims that stable families and strong moral values are the key to ending poverty. She has asserted a moral objection to abortion and claims that rampant abortion has hurt black families."

She talked a lot about what's happening to Americans today as they accept, more and more, the slow creep of socialism via redistribution (which she feels is inconsistent with our founding), entitlements,  etc........"Uncle Sam's Plantation didn't work for Blacks and it won't work for Whites..," she said today.   Amen to that.

As a young woman, she had been sold on the idea that her problems were somebody else's fault, but she soon wised up and realized that wasn't the case. She learned, first hand, the "destructive nature of entitlements," and today, she speaks to welfare moms and teaches them that the first steps out of poverty are freedom and personal responsibility... to take control of one's life and let less government step in.

She talked about how "half of our country is making and half of our country is taking."  She's right.  And she asserts that can't work. Star also laments that "we are no longer building our country on the blue prints..."  of the founding fathers, etc. 

Interesting stats she gave were about Black voting:

96% were Obama fans in 2008
94% in 2009
85% in 2011
79% in 2012      Slow and steady....slow and steady.............

An interesting point is that Blacks are fleeing the big cities...17% drop in Blacks in Chicago and NY, 20% drop in Detroit...they're going to right to work cities........that's more good news.

One of the ways she illustrated her disdain for big government and how some of its programs are destined to ruin American families was by telling us this:  Did you know that if your children neglect their kids or can't or don't want to support them,  they can turn them over to the State and the State will put them in Foster Homes?  Sure, and what's happening is the grandparents are tearfully persuading the Foster Home system to give them the grandchildren they want to raise and, that way, the grandparents get THREE TIMES the pay their daughter would have from welfare!  Why would a mother decide to keep her children when this can happen?   And can you imagine how many are bilking the system? $$$  Star's none too happy about that, either.  Who would be?

Some really good news is that she worked to get vouchers in the DC system and they finally beat Obama and there are 1700 vouchers worth $7500 each and children are taking advantage of better schools;  a good thing.

Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank which promotes market based public policy to fight poverty.  HERE is her website.

She talked about a lot of things yesterday but I won't go into them all.  Suffice it to say she's beautiful, she's smart, she's PASSIONATE and a loyal, faithful American....and a big part of her message is how she believes Black Americans will wake up if only they get the message that they can be what they want to be and that entitlements are enslavement..........she was enslaved and broke out of the chains.  May her work continue for others..........

The Euro and Paris.....by popular demand; thanks so much!

Because some of you liked my piece about Normandy yesterday (see link at the bottom of the post about DDAY), I thought I'd publish this one today......it's an oldie, I hope you find it a goodie:

The Euro and the Café  by Z (written while living in Paris, in 1999)

As an American living in France, the Euro isn’t a huge disruption in my life.  It’s worth just a bit less than our American dollar, so it works for me!   There’s some romance gone from France with the disappearance of the francs, and sure, I’d just learned to pronounce the nasal “ncs” in “francs”, but nobody asked me when they decided to get rid of it!   The best part is no more dividing everything by seven to go from French francs to its worth in dollars. My husband kept reminding me his salary wasn’t paid in dollars so the value in dollars didn’t really apply to us but it always mattered to me!  Without an American dollar value in my head, everything might as well have been paid for with old E Ride tickets from Disneyland.  The problem is, since the demise of the francs, everything suddenly seems much more expensive.  Had we been paying $12.00 for cold chicken and $4.00 for a cup of mint tea at the cafe all along?  Maybe I was worse at dividing by seven than I thought.  Today, I had my very last hot mint tea in a restaurant in France.   Four DOLLARS for a teabag and some hot water?  Gone are the days when I figured anything worth a seventh of what it said on the menu was cheap.  The Euro’s close to the dollars, so I’m not confused anymore.  But the waiters at my local café are.

The Euro came into use on January 1st.  We were in our local bistro for our morning coffee January 2nd.  Much had changed.   Jean Paul, Mayda, Jean Claude, Brigitte, and the two waiters behind the counter, weren’t smiling as the usually do.  Yes, we heard “Bonjour!”, but it didn’t have the bounce in it this time.  They were not as busy as usual that morning as this was January and the French hadn’t returned from their ski trips and the reduction in the number of American tourists was most greatly noticed over the holidays, but the wait staff at the café was otherwise occupied.  It was the Euro.

Until February 17th, the French can still take francs, but most are giving Euros in change.   I say “most” because our other corner restaurant is giving back francs, whether it’s legal or not doesn’t seem to bother them or the authorities, which is nothing new for Paris.  Our favorite Le Victor Hugo café is giving change in Euros for francs, and the wait staff is not happy.   Suddenly, along with balancing little trays with four dollar mint tea on them, they’re also carrying tiny calculators, clutching them like a paycheck, like if it weren’t for that thing in their hand, they might as well have not come in. 

Jean Paul, who usually discos himself around the café greeting strangers and good customers with almost the same verve (frequent customers like us get kisses and compliments with our greetings!), was suddenly not even smiling.   He took one look at us, pointed to his calculator and said the whole thing was OVERBOARD!  JUST too much!.  Mayda looked tired for the first time, and Jean Claude was having enough difficulties managing his hangover without having to worry about making change, too. (The image here is the Place Victor Hugo, and I could see the fountains from my apartment windows if I leaned out and looked to my left.....it almost hurts with pleasure from just seeing it...at Christmas, they shut the fountains off and put decorated Christmas trees there instead...just beautiful!)

Jean Claude started working at Le Victor six months ago.  It was positively startling to have a new waiter at our local, having become used to the same people over 2 ½ years, rather like suddenly finding an extra brother one morning at the breakfast table.   It didn’t take long for us to warm to him, all we had to do was see his way of giving change which, when he first came, was still in francs.   You see, Jean Claude wears the obligatory long sleeved white shirt, black vest, black bow tie, and black pants, but it’s his vest that’s the best part.  Jean Claude’s vest has several long horizontal pockets across the front, around his belly.  The first day my husband paid him for our coffees and croissants, he took the money and suddenly his fingers started flying across his vest, bringing out coins from his pockets in rapid succession….some coins from one, another coin from around the other side.   We watched and realized that each pocket had different values of francs in it, ten francs coins in one pocket, ½ franc in another.  And he managed this pulling at his vest quicker than one could manage one of those metal change boxes that we have in the States where you push the top of each section and the coin comes down.  The man played his vest like someone playing an accordion.  He knew exactly what each pocket had without a downward glance.  Well, with the change to Euro, Jean Claude still wears his vest, but it’s not the same.  At first, I saw him grab for a coin then immediately grab a coin from another pocket and check them against each other for size. They’re very close in size and many values are the same color, so it’s hard to tell.   Today, I noticed Jean Claude’s wearing his glasses all the time.  Now he needs only to look carefully at the number written on them.  Things are different. 

That first day of the Euro was the first day I’d say that staff looked stressed.  There have been days when the place is so full you can barely walk through, but Mayda walks up the steps to the second level seating area carrying three hot dishes and still smiling brightly as usual.  I’ve been there when Jean Paul had a table full of foreigners who’d left their smiles at home, and still Jean Paul, though teasing us about them from behind a column, mimicking their long faces and refusal to fall for his charms, remained full of laughter and good humor.   But, not the day the Euro hit. 

“Look, Madame Star!” (that’s his moniker for me because I wear dark glasses, and who would protest that name?  Except that, when he yells that, everybody looks up to see who's come in and it's only ME!), “Look at these awful things,” he said, holding out a handful of coins, affording me my first look at a bunch of them all together in one place.  “This is terrible, it’s too difficult.  And it’s not French!”   Not to mention it looked less like real money and more like the shiny, foil-covered chocolate candies the French give their children at Christmas, I wanted to add, but my French doesn’t go that far.  

The rest of the time that morning, while we sipped our coffee, one or the other of the staff  would stop at our table between duties and bemoan the Euro all over again, holding the calculator up in the air and shaking it,  making faces, or simply rolling their eyes as they walked by.   

It’s been a week now since the Euro befell the European Union and the press says all has gone superbly well.    I’d say it’s been less than superb at our neighborhood café, but it’s getting better.  We were there for lunch today.   Other than the fact that you can see them squinting to see which value coin they’re giving you back, and they’re still huddling together in little meetings about what the change for a client comes to, they’re getting used to it.  Jean Paul was almost back to dancing himself through the cafe today and, in a week, Jean Claude will have memorized his vest.

As for me, I’d say it’s the first time in my life I’d have rather continued to divide by seven.  At least then, I may never have awakened to the fact that I was paying four dollars and change for a cup of tea.  (end)

Nora Ephron has just died.......

Nora Ephron wrote some really warm, amusing films and Mr. Z's favorites were WHEN HARRY MET SALLY and YOU'VE GOT MAIL.    SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE was rather a favorite, too.  I liked JULIA AND JULIE quite a bit, in spite of the silly and completely gratuitous anti-Republican lines, and hadn't realized Nora Ephron had written it.  You might remember that her first husband was Carl Bernstein.

Gone at 71... Rest in peace, Ms. Ephron.

D-DAY 2012....and a story by Z about D DAY

HOW THE D-DAY INVASION WOULD BE REPORTED BY TODAY'S MEDIA

NORMANDY, FRANCE (June 6, 1944) Three hundred French civilians were killed and thousands more were wounded today in the first hours of America's invasion of continental Europe. Casualties were heaviest among women and children. Most of the French casualties were the result of artillery fire from American ships attempting to knock out German fortifications prior to the landing of hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops. Reports from a makeshift hospital in the French town of St. Mere Eglise said the carnage was far worse than the French had anticipated, and that reaction against the American invasion was running high. "We are dying for no reason, "said a Frenchman speaking on condition of anonymity. "Americans can't even shoot straight. I never thought I'd say this, but life was better under Adolph Hitler."  (Z:  Think Saddam Hussein!)
The invasion also caused severe environmental damage. American troops, tanks, trucks and machinery destroyed miles of pristine shoreline and thousands of acres of ecologically sensitive wetlands. It was believed that the habitat of the spineless French crab was completely wiped out, thus threatening the species with extinction. A representative of Greenpeace said his organization, which had tried to stall the invasion for over a year, was appalled at the destruction, but not surprised. "This is just another example of how the military destroys the environment without a second thought," said Christine Moanmore. "And it's all about corporate greed."  (Z: Think Al Gore and the the OWS!)

Contacted at his Manhattan condo, a member of the French government-in-exile who abandoned Paris when Hitler invaded, said the invasion was based solely on American financial interests. "Everyone knows that President Roosevelt has ties to 'big beer'," said Pierre LeWimp. "Once the German beer industry is conquered, Roosevelt's beer cronies will control the world market and make a fortune."

Administration supporters said America's aggressive actions were based in part on the assertions of controversial scientist Albert Einstein, who sent a letter to Roosevelt speculating that the Germans were developing a secret weapon -- a so-called "atomic bomb". Such a weapon could produce casualties on a scale never seen before, and cause environmental damage that could last for thousands of years. Hitler has denied having such a weapon and international inspectors were unable to locate such weapons even after spending two long weekends in Germany. Shortly after the invasion began, reports surfaced that German prisoners had been abused by American soldiers. Mistreatment of Jews by Germans at their so-called "concentration camps" has been rumored, but so far this remains unproven. (Z:  Think Iraq and nukes)

Several thousand Americans died during the first hours of the invasion, and French officials are concerned that the uncollected corpses will pose a public-health risk. Z:  It does sound like the NEW YORK TIMES, doesn't it?  I thought this piece was was very well done and wanted to share it.

Disney's MERIDA "the Tomboy"

According to THIS ARTICLE, "Disney Pixar's first film with a female lead protagonist also marks a first for Disney: Merida is the only tomboy to enter the famed Disney princess ecosystem, and the first one who doesn't wind up with a prince at the end of her story.  There's more from the article:

"She can save herself. She's not on a quest for 'happily ever after,'" the film's director Mark Andrews tells Yahoo! Movies. "She's on a quest to find out who she is. And that's very different,"  he adds of the archer and sword-wielding red-headed heroine who revels in adventuring through the forest atop her enormous Clydesdale, Angus."    They call her THE TOMBOY in the title on Yahoo...I think TOMBOY might be interchangeable with another word, don't you?

Z: Pity the little girls today........will they know that there IS nothing better than living "happily ever after" even if it's not happy every minutE?  And, will they learn that it is okay to "wind up with a prince" who can "save her"?  .......It's the sweetest thing any woman can ever feel.  Are those lovely days of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty really over? I'm great with young women 'learning who they are' (ugh, pardon the psychobabble), and developing their talents and being independent but............gee, it's nice to have a wonderful man; no job, no hobby, no nothing can compete with that.  Must we have films through which the producers, developers, etc., are trying to teach a lesson like this?

Immigration Laws.......a question

From THIS ARTICLE: " The Supreme Court upheld a key part of Arizona's tough anti-illegal immigration law in a 5-3 decision on Monday that allows police officers to ask about immigration status during stops. That part of the law, which never went into effect because of court challenges, will now immediately be enforced in Arizona. Other parts of the law, including a provision that made it a state crime for illegal immigrants to seek work, will remain blocked, as the justices affirmed the federal government's supremacy over immigration policy."
Also, "The law made it a state crime for illegal immigrants to seek work or fail to carry proper immigration papers."

So, what DOES the Federal Government do to protect America from illegal immigration?  Can someone help me out here? 

UPDATE:  (AP) — Mitt Romney on Monday said states have a duty and a right to secure their borders even as he called for a bipartisan national immigration strategy.
Z: I'm not sure AP had to say "even as he called for ..." as if the states and the national immigration strategies wouldn't be best if working together, but I guess "even as he.." make him sound like a hypocrite, so the author, Jack Gillum, got his point across :-)

Did you hear that they had to collect the knives and forks before Obama spoke at the Latino organization last week?  HERE is Michelle Malkin's take and a video of the poor Board Member who added  "I'm not kidding..." when she had to ask that people finish their lunch quickly so the forks and knives could be collected before Obama came out!   Have you ever heard of that being requested before?  HERE is a review from POLITICO about other occasions when cutlery's been removed for Obama appearances......they say it's "without anyone realizing it.."   Apparently, at this Latino event, they didn't know Obama was going to speak and the Board Member even said "We have another speaker coming"...  But, lunch was quickly downed and cutlery was openly collected.


Malkin goes on to say   "Knives are also routinely confiscated at Joe Biden’s dinner speeches, but that’s to eliminate any chance of audience members taking their own lives."  Cracked me up!

But the most obvious point is when Malkin stated "If we were talking about Mitt Romney, who spoke to the same group earlier in the week, the MSM headline probably would have been something along the lines of “Presumptive GOP nominee doesn’t trust Latino audience with forks.”    She's right, of course.

I had chosen the Ephesians verses for my Sunday Faith Blog last week, but then I remembered it was Father's Day and I wanted to make it more appropriate for that day so I saved it for this week.  An hour or so after I saved it, our friend and commenter Jan emailed me the piece about the little children which, for obvious reasons, I added to it!  "My" Sunday Faith Blog always (always) seems to write itself somehow.   I hope you enjoyed this one.

The LGBT Community.........illustrated

The 'class' of the LGBT community leaders that Obama must not have vetted before inviting them in for the big Gay Shindig, the first one at the White House is exhibited in these pictures.    Giving the finger to Reagan....the middle one is some 'man' giving the thumbs up to Bush.     One would think that the dignity they want so badly would have been better served if they respected the house which belongs to all Americans, but no...........
I believe many gays do not feel like this and this is just another bad representation of them, just as bad as gay parades with fishnet stockings and false eyelashes on 'men'....... As a matter of fact, a gay group just endorsed Romney.


Would you not have escorted the 'guests' in the picture out of the White House?   I am not surprised, but disheartened that the Obama people didn't do something about this.

Next week, as you know, the Supreme Court of the United States is expected to issue a ruling on the constitutionality of President Obama's health care law. In the months since oral arguments were heard by the Court, we have worked diligently with each other, as well as our colleagues in the Senate and in state capitols across the country, to analyze all of the potential rulings and their impact on the American people.
No one knows what the Court will decide, and none of us would presume to know. But if the Court strikes down all or part of the president's health care law, there will be no spiking of the ball. Republicans are focused on the economy—and under President Obama's policies, our economy is struggling. We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation's economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire. ObamaCare has contributed to all of these problems. Repealing it completely is part of the solution ... but it is only one part.
Americans opposed the president's health care law when it was enacted, and they have only grown more opposed to it since then. From listening to the people, Republicans know the critical points remain these:
* The president's health care law is making things worse—driving up health costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers. The only way to change this is by repealing ObamaCare in its entirety.
* Unless the Court throws out the entire law, we need to repeal what is left of ObamaCare and enact common-sense, step-by-step reforms that protect Americans' access to the care they need, from the doctor they choose, at a lower cost.
* Republicans will not repeat the Democrats' mistakes. We won't rush to pass a massive bill the American people don't support.
* Health care coverage has become too expensive for too many people. The number-one health care concern of families and small business is the cost of health care, and Republicans' health care reforms will lower costs.
* Women make approximately 80 percent of the health care decisions made for their families. Republican health care reforms will ensure families and doctors make health care decisions—not Washington.
* We want families to be able to make their own choices in health care, visit the doctor of their choosing, and receive the health care they and their doctor feel is best. Those decisions shouldn't be made by Washington.
As I, Leader Cantor, Whip McCarthy and other leaders have made clear in recent days, the House will act in the coming weeks on legislation to repeal any part of ObamaCare that is left standing by the Supreme Court. Such action is critical for jobs and our economy and for the health care of millions of American families.
Please pray that SCOTUS agrees with most Americans and that no group should ever pass any law this huge without having had the chance to really read and discuss it, and that Americans must have no more mandates.   We might get somewhere with cooperation.

Pelosi on Holder.....is she nuts?

WASHINGTON — The top House Democrat says a committee vote holding the attorney general in contempt of Congress is part of Republican efforts to suppress votes in the upcoming elections.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters Thursday that the vote on Attorney General Eric Holder was an abuse of power by Republicans. She says it is no coincidence that Holder is the official in charge of preventing voter suppression and enforcing civil rights laws.

The California Democrat says Republicans are allied with big-spending special interests in what she called a "nationwide scheme" to suppress the vote.  (Z:  REALLY?  Demanding legal voting is REPRESSION?)

The GOP-run House Oversight Committee voted Wednesday to hold the attorney general in contempt for failing to supply documents related to the mishandled "Fast and Furious" gun-running investigation. *** end of article



Z: The Republicans are going to have to work HARD to remind American voters that it's not REPRESSING the vote we want but TOTALLY LEGAL VOTING.  We aren't the party who believes some Americans find it just too difficult to register ahead of time or are too dumb to get to the right precinct on voting day all by themselves like they did for the last 200 years.    Case in point:

A good friend worked for 30 years in a doctor's office in "The Crenshaw District," of Los Angeles, an almost all-Black, middle class neighborhood.   Every election day, the doc she worked with, to make conversation, would ask particularly the elderly Black men and women "So, did you VOTE today?"  And, countless times, they would say "I didn't have to go in.  Every election, young people come to my house and help me get an absentee ballot, and then they come back when it's arrived and help me fill it out and they send it in for me."   And, countless times, my friend and her boss did nothing.   They were upset, but what can one do?   No names, just story after story of illegal voting...in the guise of 'helping'.  Now, you could say "My gosh, Z!  Don't you WANT them to vote?"   which is a microcosm of the macrocosmic problem we have, isn't it.
Answer:  I do NOT want anyone but the voter to make his or her choice.  

What ugliness has crept into our political atmosphere that would allow Pelosi to stoop so low as to make those accusations in the CBS article above?  What I think she's saying is "Look, we need every vote we can get for the Democrats no matter WHERE we get them...dead, illegal, felons, from other states, non registered...and we need Holder to make sure we protect our scam"    Isn't she?

The Muslims and the Preschool........

I am associated with two schools which I sometimes discuss here in 'comments'...  One is a preschool and I would like to talk about an incident that was touching and, I think, informative.

The preschool is a part of a church and "church" is in the title of the school, but we get parents interviewing us and asking "Do you actually talk about Jesus?"   The answer from our Director, of course, is always 'Yes'.   We lose a few, but not many.  There is no preaching but there are age-appropriate stories from the Bible from time to time, fun Christian songs, and the children learn prayers from time to time, learn Judeo-Christian values, and certainly celebrate Easter and Christmas at the school.  They also, on occasion, join the church service on Sunday and sing songs they have learned; the parents love this.  SO, I get to my story...

Last week was the Preschool Graduation Ceremony where little awards were given and we who guest-teach 30 min. classes each week on certain subjects, have the children show off what they've learned.   During this show and dinner which we hosted for the children and their parents, I saw something worth talking about;

A MUSLIM FAMILY from Saudi Arabia ("I am a Prince in my country") joined our preschool about eight months ago,   They asked about Jesus being mentioned at the school and our Director did not shirk (she actually wondered if this difference in religions was a good match herself, anyway) and said Jesus is definitely a part of our school, and...they enrolled.   All has gone very well.  Somehow, without bilingual education, their little girl has even learned a lot of English!  

Last week's Graduation was just starting when I saw the Muslim family come in (I had never seen them as their child doesn't come to school on the day I teach my particular once-a-week class) .  They were not hard to miss as the mother had a Chanel scarf wrapped as a hijab around her absolutely gorgeous, flawless face.  She was also wearing a rather roomy beige coat buttoned up to her chin on that warm evening.  The husband was relaxed and cool in his short sleeved shirt and slacks, a skinny man who's appearance, if you don't mind my saying so, didn't seem to merit her simply beautiful face. They had the little 4 year old who attended our school and an infant in a stroller.  They sat down at one of the tables and watched the show.    It was touching to see their smiles and to see the father join, with his camera, the parent-paparazzi as they all stood up holding cell phones and cameras in the air above others' heads in order  to catch the action on stage!  All the parents looked happy and very proud.

Later, the show was over and everyone was in line getting the dinner which was served to the whole group, and a friend of mine and I passed by this family as they sat at the end of a long table.  It was clear they were not participating in the dinner, but they were still there.  The Muslim man suddenly handed me and my friend a small cup and we realized it was something very hot, coming out of a thermos he had brought with him.   We accepted with smiles and thank you's and took a sip;  it was like a mulled wine tea, strong with herbs and ginger, and quite good.  As I thanked the man, he reached into a bag and brought out a plastic container with dates and opened it and offered me some.  I only took one, which killed me because I love dates, and it was delicious and I thanked him.  Despite the language problem, he made his point of being gracious and generous and I made my point of being very thankful and delighted at his generosity and thoughtfulness.

As I walked away with my friend, both of us sipping our brew, I said "Don't tell ME you didn't think 'now we're all going to die', what's in this stuff?"  She said it hadn't crossed her mind and then we both burst into laughter. A little nervous humor never hurts!

One of the teachers at our Christian preschool is Jewish from Iran.  Yes, she is, and some on the School Board hesitated to hire her because teachers take turns doing a 20 minute weekly chapel for the children.  This Jewish woman steps up to the bat and does a charming Christian chapel for the children, always including Jesus.Near the end of the dinner, the Muslim family still there, I looked over and saw our Jewish teacher in some kind of conversation with the Muslim couple... I say "some kind of conversation" because how they communicated is beyond me, but perhaps the Muslims have learned enough English in the months they've been here... ?   Anyway, I said to a friend "Look, the Jew and the Muslims at the Christian preschool...isn't that good?"    

It was a good night. Would that the world could be like that.  Would that we could all trust enough to 'drink from the cup...'

But, because of the flawed, even horrifying reputation other muslims have perpetrated, it's not so easy, is it.   I felt that family is aware of that and that our school had always put them at ease...a good thing.  What a tangled web......

This being Sunday, it's a great day to honor your earthly father and your Heavenly Father even more than usual!    I want to take this day to thank you good fathers out there who've raised solid Americans who love this country and appreciate its exceptionalism and its blessings.  I know some of you have lost your fathers, as I have, and it's a time to remember them and feel the gratitude we have for who they were and what they did for us, isn't it.

Can't stop Deportation Through EXECUTIVE ORDER? REALLY?

RUH ROH!   I think Obama's a little confused.    Hoisted on his own petard..that's the expression, I think.



But... he HAS done it..............He HAS halted deportation and all on his own!!......what?

And Romney thinks Obama's move will make it harder for young immigrants! Click here:  MY GOODNESS!
Now, some of you might not like Romney's take on this, I'm not too big on it, but the kids ARE HERE and we need to wake up and realize THEY ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.   The problem isn't that they're here, the problem is that many don't WANT to be American and they're taking money from us.  BIG MONEY.  And they're taking college slots that American, particularly white, kids can't get because they're not minorities, etc.   If we can fix these things............we'll have immigrants like my grandparents and yours who add to our country in wonderful ways.   And there are many Latinos who are like that, but others......not so much, sadly.

So, is Obama saying one thing and doing another?  I think so.

Germany's reaction to Obama...."you've lost that lovin' feelin...."

I emailed a very dear friend in Germany, a business man with whom Mr. Z dealt, and asked him what Germany's saying now about Obama.   He wrote back today about what he's reading and seeing in Germany and this post today, below the image, is all his. His English is obviously very good and I only changed a few things that you might not have understood.  Many Germans bought into the glamor and 'hope' but I think many of you will remember that, while the American media said Germany was glowing under Obama's spell as he spoke in Berlin, many Germans found it inappropriate that any American candidate would campaign there, particularly asking to speak at the Brandenburg Gates (he was turned down and wasn't happy), where only the highest Germans ever are allowed to speak. When I said to Mr. Z "But look how many thousands are out there to see him" he reminded me that on a rare warm night in Germany, anybody will come out for free food and rock music before any speaker. But, many Germans, of course, mostly the very left-leaning intelligentsia at the big papers and magazines like liberal Der Spiegel, loved him..HOPE! CHANGE! Hurrah for America! (remember, many of them only have the Int'l Herald Tribune to read in English, which reprints their owner, the NYTimes' articles so they don't get all the truth). The latest Der Spiegel cover, provided to me by my friend, is here along with Klaus's review of what even very liberal Spiegel is now saying:

He is responsible for the big "Graben" (fissure) between the Americans and the demerger and schism of the American society. The article names many of his failures and shows that he did too many promises that he didn't keep. He failed with his so intensively announced  project of national reconciliation, on the contrary, he has contributed to America's split. The cultural struggle has strengthened, rather than to (become) calm during his presidency. But the Republican-dominated House of representatives makes it extremely hard for him and in such a climate, no president would have the opportunity to shape the world to his wishes.


Consequently, for many citizens Washington became an object of hate, the epitome of mediocrity and botch-up.  Many are willing to reckon up his deeds (ignore the problems) with his charisma, what is irrational and naive.He has stylized himself to the noble knight of the change. CHANGE stood on his flag.. His slogan "yes, we can" went around the world , but in America now the feeling prevails - even with his adherers and fellow party members, that he simply didn't deliver and perform on many fields.


What I notice in the financial economy and with my many international contacts is pretty alarming - at least for me.  Many of these guys fear that Obama could win some terrain in the last months so that they believe he'll be re-elected.

Secret intelligence? WHICH PART?

U.S. expands secret intelligence operations in Africa



The U.S. military is expanding its secret intelligence operations across Africa, establishing a network of small air bases to spy on terrorist hideouts from the fringes of the Sahara to jungle terrain along the equator, according to documents and people involved in the project.


At the heart of the surveillance operations are small, unarmed turboprop aircraft disguised as private planes.


THEN, get a load of THIS "SECRET" INFORMATION:

A hub for secret network
A key hub of the U.S. spying network can be found in Ouagadougou (WAH-gah-DOO-goo), the flat, sunbaked capital of Burkina Faso, one of the most impoverished countries in Africa.
Under a classified surveillance program code-named Creek Sand, dozens of U.S. personnel and contractors have come to Ouagadougou in recent years to establish a small air base on the military side of the international airport.

Well....I don't imagine one can hide easily in Ouagadougou since it's so flat and impoverished.  And I don't imagine our guys all LOOK like they're from Burkina Faso, right?  And they now know the code name is Creek Sand, and they know about how many US personnel and contractors are there.....which part is the SECRET?

ANGRY Democrats.....it's about time

Wait till you read THIS.....(thanks to "Jan" for emailing it to me)...I've always said that we can't win this election unless Democrats start seeing through Obama, too.

Well...it's happening.   Dianne Feinstein is furious about, well..Fast and FURIOUS.....other Democrats voted with Republicans to force the AG to come up with the approximately 80,000 of pages they've refused to turn over. (until today, as Holder is finally saying he will "compromise"....a word which seems to be yet another jab at Republicans, right?).

But there's new trouble that needs exposure before Americans vote.  Here is the excerpt from the above linked article I thought you should see (and PLEASE send to voting friends and family):

The leaked document has been posted on the website of Public Citizen, a long-time critic of the administration's trade objectives. The new leak follows substantial controversy surrounding the secrecy of the talks, in which some members of Congress have complained they are not being given the same access to trade documents that corporate officials receive.
"The outrageous stuff in this leaked text may well be why U.S. trade officials have been so extremely secretive about these past two years of [trade] negotiations," said Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch in a written statement.
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) has been so incensed by the lack of access as to introduce legislation requiring further disclosure. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has gone so far as to leak a separate document from the talks on his website. Other Senators are considering writing a letter to Ron Kirk, the top trade negotiator under Obama, demanding more disclosure.
The newly leaked document is one of the most controversial of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact. It addresses a broad sweep of regulations governing international investment and reveals the Obama administration's advocacy for policies that environmental activists, financial reform advocates and labor unions have long rejected for eroding key protections currently in domestic laws.
Under the agreement currently being advocated by the Obama administration, American corporations would continue to be subject to domestic laws and regulations on the environment, banking and other issues. But foreign corporations operating within the U.S. would be permitted to appeal key American legal or regulatory rulings to an international tribunal. That international tribunal would be granted the power to overrule American law and impose trade sanctions on the United States for failing to abide by its rulings.

This is quite something, isn't it.   WE will have to continue to have our hands tied but foreigners....?  notsomuch.  We're living in an anti-American TWILIGHT ZONE, folks.........
