GRACE...U2

GRACE........something my dear friend (and commenter and blog partner) Elmer's Brother (Elbro) reminded me of last night.  It brought peace back to my heart.

Elbro always centers me and 'brings me home'.......It's one of the reasons I love my friend Elmer's Brother.  He's patient, understanding, kind, of great faith, and knows how to be a marvelous friend.

Listen if you can, but the lyrics I've pasted below are enough...grace heals.  This post is dedicated to Elbro.  Bono's words are dedicated to the world:

Grace
She takes the blame
She covers the shame
Removes the stain
It could be her name

Grace

It's a name for a girl
It's also a thought that changed the world
And when she walks on the street
You can hear the strings
Grace finds goodness in everything

Grace, she's got the walk

Not on a ramp or on chalk
She's got the time to talk
She travels outside of karma
She travels outside of karma
When she goes to work
You can hear her strings
Grace finds beauty in everything

Grace, she carries a world on her hips

No champagne flute for her lips
No twirls or skips between her fingertips
She carries a pearl in perfect condition

What once was hurt

What once was friction
What left a mark

No longer stings
Because grace makes beauty
Out of ugly things

Grace makes beauty out of ugly things

Music: U2
Lyrics: Bono

Wouldn't hurt for most of us to exude more grace-ciousness.

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown;
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God himself;
And earthly power doth then show likest God's
When mercy seasons justice.
- Shakespeare, "Merchant of Venice"

Elbro's a rock. No doubt about it. ;)

I was disturbed that
he brought me into being,
and nothing has grown
through my life
like my bewilderment at it.
We’re forced to depart,
and don’t even know what
the point is
of all this coming
and going and being.

Bono's a pretty spiritual guy. I had not heard that song. Thanks for this post!

Some for the pleasures here below
Others yearn for The Prophet's Paradise to come;
Ah, take the cash and let the credit go,
Nor heed the rumble of a distant drum

And much as Wine has played the Infidel
And robbed me of my robe of Honour, well ...
I often wonder what the vintners buy
One half so precious as the stuff they sell

For some we loved, the loveliest and best
That from His rolling vintage Time has pressed,
Have drunk their glass a round or two before,
And one by one crept silently to rest

But helpless pieces in the game He plays
Upon this chequer-board of Nights and Days
He hither and thither moves, and checks ... and slays
Then one by one, back in the Closet lays

"The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."

"Ditto"

Every culture experienced at least ONE genius over its' peaks and valleys. But only one culture has consistly produced THOUSANDS of them.

You can read about them here.

The obverse "grace" argument from Robin Trower (as Xeno would do for Parmenides)

I was amused by the contention at your link that most Chinese artists are anonymous, Farmer.

Utter nonsense.

Thersites said...

Anonymous outside of China? Most definitely.

But then, China has been around for a lot LONGER than most cultures last. And with a billion )plus) citizens, there's GOT to be a least ONE or TWO genius' (by definition) amongst them, even today. :)

Thersites said...

The omission of several relative categories, including a broader Chinese art category or an Indian art category, are due to a lack of identifiable figures as most of the work is anonymous.

SF, it's an odd one, I know, but it's very important to me, as is Elbro's friendship.
I'm glad you appreciated it.

Elbro, thanks.xx

Joe, and if only everyone understood boundaries and the feelings of others, right?

Grace by Christ, Grace from people.....what a peace that brings.

Thersites said...

Ouch! And if only everyone always had all the facts.

..but then, where would the risk in drinking from the offered outstretched cup be?

I love the word and first name "Grace." If I had a daughter that would be the name I would give her.
