Happy Birthday, Mr. Z

Our favorite August hotel in Santa Barbara......
I wish that I could bake you another of your favorite German plum tarts and pile it with lots of whipped cream.

When I saw the title of this posting, I teared up.

May today not be totally sad for you. I know that it's going to be rough, though. Certain dates, birthdays included, make us especially miss those who have gone on ahead of us.

Hi Z! Know that He is with you, and W is there with Him. You're in my thoughts and prayers, especially today.

Funny, I just heard Norman Greenbaum's song "Spirit In The Sky" on the radio before I read your post.

You guys are all the greatest...I think we have the best 'corner of the conservative blogosphere' BY FAR...because of all of you.

Mr. Z really enjoyed the blog and you've all been SO kind over this last year since he passed on that I wanted to share this day with you. Happily, I have great family and friends who're helping me through it, as they have all year...you're all amongst that bunch and I'm so grateful to you. I wish you ALL could come to bkfst with me and my sister in an hour! :-)

Jingo, you made me smile with "Spirit in the Sky"..
I had posted this, then deleted it because it's so personal, but I'll share it here now because of that 'coincidence' of having just heard that song:
Yesterday, I saw the one and only plum tart (see my post) cooked on the Food Channel as long as I've been watching and noticed...(for years).......then I opened a book a cousin sent me of prose and poetry, just opened in the middle of the 194 pgs, and HAPPENED to open to a gorgeous poem about love and loss....then I put on QVC an hour later and I saw a presentation for the first time this year of something I'd ordered for Mr Z and which arrived the day he died, he never saw it.
How's that for a bunch of very weird "coincidences?"

Some "coincidences" aren't.

Jingoist, I've known you for many years now, maybe 10? And you never let me down. Thanks...I call these "Godincidences!" You're right..xxx

Z, I'm sure that's a PERFECT word. LOL!

Ms. Z....my thoughts and prayers are with you today. Mr. Z will always be missed.

And BTW....that's my kind of place too. Ms. Imp and I loved small get away, intimate B&B's like that too.

Well, Z...did you hear the laughter? ;)

I was thinking of you all day, and even bought a pretty plant to put next to my front steps, in honor of Mr. Z,(and you) because I remember that you said that he loved flowers, and was always buying them for you!

Happy birthday Mr. Z. A big to you Madame, love you. J'Mac.

Z said...

tio, God bless you for that, thanks. I remember you guys used to talk from time to time and he liked you very much :-)

Matisse, you KNOW how much he loved YOU! (See you Sat. night!)

Imp..that is THE coolest little hotel....we LOVED it..1/2 block from the ocean, like a 'home away from home', very pretty, very quiet. Oh, GOD, I miss those great times.

Jan, we laughed over that, for sure ...I don't think I shared that yet in a comment here so I will:
I'd told Jan via email that my sis was taking me to bkfst this morning and she'd emailed "We'll toast Mr. Z" ...I laughed and said "He's been toasted a lot on his birthday, but the toast has never been BUTTERED before!" (heh!)
My friend Susie and I toasted him with gin martinis last night, MUCh more fun, but not as great as being with my amazingly beautiful and bright kid sis!

And Jan...what a VERY sweet thing to do...Yup, he adored flowers.

Jen, thanks, babe...

JM...merci beaucoup, mon cher ami.xxx
