Sunday Faith Blog

The information below is from the book "It's Time to Remember, AMERICA!  Connecting the Past with the Present"...by Michael R. Myers and presented to me by a very dear America-adoring friend:

Were it not for the intense love of country that existed before and after the War Between the States, this nation would have ceased to exist as it had been formed.  From the earliest days of the Republic, men expressed a deep sense of loyalty and devotion to the union that formed these United States.  Here is a sampling of their sentiments:

The kindred blood that flows in the veins of American citizens, the mingled blood which they have shed in defense of their sacred rights, consecrate their Union......   James Madison

One God, one country, one destiny.  This is the gospel of American nationality...   Wendell Phillips

I know no North, no South, no East, no West to which I owe any allegiance.........  Henry Clay

Every American should be proud of his whole country, rather than a part... .William Tecumseh Sherman

Without Union, our independence and liberty would never have been achieved;  without Union, they cannot be maintained..........Andrew Jackson

We were One by the configuration of nature and by the strong impress of the art. We are One by the memories of our fathers.  We are One by the hopes of our children.  We are one by our Constitution and our Union. .. . Robert C. Winthrop

The nation depends not on the wisdom of its senators, not on the vigilance of its police, not on the strong arm of its standing armies: but on the loyalty of a united people.......... Parke Godwin

Lord of the Universe!  Shield us and guide us,
Trusting Thee always, through shadows and sun!
Thou hast united us, who shall divide us?
Keep us, O keep us, the MANY IN ONE..........Oliver Wendell Holmes
                                  ***
Z: UNITY of country, UNITY of its people........exactly what we are losing through anger, divisiveness and all attempts to rid our country of so many things, including the Christian God in America today.

More from the book:  William Penn realized the providence of God in (this country's) foundation:

"For my country, I eyed the Lord in obtaining it, and more was I drawn to look to him, and to owe to his hand and power than to any other way.  I have so obtained it, and desire to keep it that I may not be unworthy of His love.."

"Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you."   2 Corinthians 13:11

United we Stand.......Divided we Fall........

Last night, Mr. AOW and I attended services -- a Herculean task getting Mr. AOW there for the special patriotic service for Independence Day.

As one's military branch's hymn was played, veterans and military members stood for recognition. The service also covered the Christian aspects of the founding of our nation. It was so wonderful to see so many believers gather together to worship our Lord and to pray for America.

Such services don't go on in many churches. **sigh**

A most excellent commentary, Z.

Too many of us take our freedoms for granted. We think they will just always be there, even as the rats and cockroaches in government nibble away at them.

In the 18th and 19th century, Americans knew they were special. Tyranny was all around them; a democratic republic was a rare thing indeed, and everyone expected it to fail.

I can't wait to see ducky's comments. He's already left his putrid droppings at my place.

Persistence overcomes resistance. We have to be more persistent that those that seek to divide!

We can't wait for the "other" guy to do it for us!

Silverfiddle, I am SO SORRY about Ducky and my other lefties ...I see they're commenting elsewhere and it breaks my heart for my blogger friends.
I've gone on Moderation, so that won't happen here anymore.

I delete everything from the moderation page now; I've been called a liar, I've been told I'm misinforming people, I've been called something like a "freakin' Calvinist" as if that's a pejorative!, I've been told I never worked a day in my life and that I haven't ever contributed to this earth...those were mostly Ducky! Bd's are too nasty and ridiculous to even repeat so I haven't read any of that person's for a few days...just DELETE! Matter of fact, the poor soul still hasn't figured out I'm on moderation :-)

ENough said. I am SO SO happy now! And sorry you've got to go through it. It'll be stepping up this year, as you know; it used to happen at the comments page at FrontPageMagazine, too...only right before elections...the nastiest. Imagine how bad the left will get next year? :-) They just can't open their eyes.. They believe their media and that's THAT! Scary.

AOW, I'm so sorry it's such a job to get Mr AOW anywhere.......but am glad you both were able to enjoy that Christian service...

Did you hear that the Houston VA is forbidding GOD, JESUS, and even condolences to families of our fallen dead can't include "May GOD bless you!"?
This is about PRIVATE FAMILY FUNERALS at the VA...
I read that the mention of ALLAH is still in discussion...I need to GOogle that again and see what's going on with that. @#($*&@#$(&*@#$*(&

Beth..me, neither.

Scotty, our hands are tied by the Left, They only want unity if it's THEIR UNITY. Look at this president! If he doesn't like people disagreeing with them, he insults...the first time IN HISTORY, I believe..and it never stops.
Also, the Left has made it that anything other than leftwing is wrong and even evil; this is something dividing us all terribly, as unAmerican as it could possibly get, and ..I don't hold out much hope for unity.

Great post Z, and beautifully done.

We must take heart and continue to hold close this great country. I think there are many more who love America, than those who would bring her down.

We saw that when we were attacked on 9-11. They're out there still, just as we are.

Here where I live, there are small American flags placed in every yard up and down the street, by a realty co. We wake up to them every year as we look out our windows.

At the cemetery not too many miles away from our home, there are many large American flags flying as you drive by the front fence and entrance.

There is a street where the flags are displayed all year by the city.

The division seems big, because those in the administration, some in Congress, and the media make it seem so. They want us to believe it is so. I believe it isn't.

God Bless America

Thanks for the thoughts and Scripture. I particularly liked, " "Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you." 2 Corinthians 13:11

Great thought to begin the week.

Off Topic: I have moved my blog from GoDaddy to JustHost.com. The WordPress pages seem to load much quicker, and I am optimistic. I will be playing around with various WordPress themes for a while. After all, my business is customizing WordPress. Thanks for you observations about the unacceptable page load times.

Bob, when I click below your name on your blog name, I get a Yahoo sign-in page. When I click directly on to your name on my Blog Roll on my home page, I get right into Spurious Missives. (aren't you getting sick of my bringing this stuff to your attention!!?)

Z said :Bob, when I click below your name on your blog name, I get a Yahoo sign-in page.

We have had this exchange, before.
Let me see if I can do it right.

Blogger does not offer a suitable sign-in alternative to allow me to use the URL of my site. I do not use Blogger, OpenID, or any of that stuff. From what I see, they would link to some site at tbat address, not mine.

If I were to use WordPress ID, it would lead you to a site I made on WordPress.com. I use
WordPress software using paid hosting at an independent host.

Look at the identity choices. The only thing I see when I play with my Blogger account is that the ID choices change with the non-moderated comment screen. Is that true?

Scotty, our hands are tied by the Left,

I don't know about that. We made a pretty good showing last November!

I don't know what you mean, but I will say I don't know that any blogger's had trouble having their name/avatar link directly to their blog.

I know you're a whiz with computers and all, and I'm an absolutely wash with this stuff; but maybe someone even more familiar than you could help?

SCOTTY: That IS true...and the polls last week did say "any Republican would beat Obama" today. But, see, the minute we find a Conservative candidate to run; the media will take off on him/her again and give Obama a pass on everything.
Just IMAGINE if Bush had said we have 57 States, for example? I mean, the video of Obama's saying that shows him really thinking hard and grasping for the number in his head and coming up with 57 and he "has more states to go to!" They'd have CREMATED BUSH.....nothing for Obama.
it happens ALL the time...it'll be very hard

But, you are right...we did very well in November!

great sentiments - but, unfortunately, i concur with beth. essentially because our children are being indoctrinated to hate our country. more so than in any civil war, children are being pitted against parents and siblings against siblings. it's disgusting.

Z said...

That's why I don't think we have a chance, either, Heidianne....kids just don't have a clue what made this country great, they just figure they can bask in the sun and drink beer and keep living like that

(wait till you see the video Scotty found...I'm linking it on my blog for the Fourth...watch it and weep)

If I were a leftist, I'd be so ashamed of the indoctrination ...it's so unAmerican.

I just did a difficult quiz of questions about our country's founding, the COnstitution, our economy today, etc........I did pretty darned well.
I did FAR better (according to the scoring method) than college professors and politicians, according to the quiz host. man

Pris said...

"children are being pitted against parents and siblings against siblings. it's disgusting."

And why is this possible? Because parents are allowing it to happen.

Don't ask me why, I don't get it. Family loyalty should always come before teacher loyalty, or anyone else for that matter when we're talking about children.

Why aren't parents down at the schools raising hell? Why?

Oh well, I've sung this song before. Enough said.

So, let ‘em! They tried that last November and it didn’t work. President Obama is going to be a one term president!

....kids just don't have a clue what made this country great, they just figure they can bask in the sun and drink beer and keep living like that

You have to remember, Z, there are a LOT of people out there like myself that taught our kids the truth.

There was a time I would have thought that my daughter would have been a eco-terrorist picketing someplace. She’s been a bank branch manager for years and does a lot of the training for that bank. She’s now a conservative. She was a screeching liberal until, she starting working and THEN the realities of life set in.

My son spent three years in the military and came out a pot head……..then he found out he was going to have to work, if he was to eat. He improved himself and is now a high end manager for a world wide corporation. He was a screeching liberal, despite his stint in the military. When had to fend for himself, like his older sister he soon became very conservative in most of his thinking.

I’m not telling you this to brag about my kids, I’m saying this to encourage you as there many of those same scenarios going on as we speak.

Eventually, those ideals that my wife and I instilled in them took root. There was a lot of doubt on my part that it would happen, but it did! And that same thing will happen with others.

And…..bottom line, I firmly believe there are more of US than there is of THEM!

Z said...

Scotty, that is GREAT!

But you said "pot head……..then he found out he was going to have to work, if he was to eat. He improved himself and is now a high end manager for a world wide corporation."

You mean "high end" not a "High" end manager, right? :-) Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Well, there's always hope!
Your kids sound great! thanks for sharing that...

Pris, I honestly believe young parents think their American lives of freedom are going to continue; they don't even REALIZE what their kids are being taught...they must be just too darned busy with mom and dad working or divorced and driving the kids from one home to the other and dating and ....

They'll be the ones asking "what HAPPENED?" when we have a generation more of people who don't appreciate their own country.

Pris said...

Z, I'm sure you're right, but that's the point, their children are down the list of priorities, when they should be the first priority.

I realize it's hard, but if one is a dedicated parent, he/she will put off his/her social life, and make it his/her business to know what's going on with the children. My daughter did that. She seldom went out.

When my grandson began kindergarten, she'd rush to the school twice a week from work, during her lunch hour and was a volunteer room mother, twice a week.

She worked through her other three lunch hours to make up for it. Plus, she had a great boss. He understood.

She was divorced, and we worked it out and I helped by taking care of him while she was at work.

I know everyone's situation is different, and there aren't always grandparents around, but the child knows when his parents take an interest, and are involved in their lives. They also know when they aren't.

I'm probably going to be slammed for this, but the "women's movement" was the worst thing that ever happened to our children.
