Sunday Faith Blog

While we argue about the debt ceiling and whether we should be investing less in defense, and even whether Casey Anthony murdered her little girl or not, the following quote comes to mind and I wanted to share it with you:

"...the great pillars of all government and of social life....(are)virtue, morality and religion.  This is the armor, my friend, and this alone, that renders us invincible.  These tactics we should study.  If we lose these, we are conquered indeed."    Patrick Henry

It will take more than raised debt ceilings, balanced budgets and a good defense to provide for a successful American future.   It's time to remember the protective nature of godly character.

"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."  Psalm 20:7

"If God is dead, everything is justifiable."   Dostoevski.   As Ravi Zacharias says "This, may I suggest, is North America's predicament."

'I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the  U.S.  Congress.. '
-Ronald Reagan

'If we ever forget that we're one nation under GOD, then we will be a nation gone under.'
-Ronald Reagan

Much to ponder, I think.  Have a good Sunday.

Yes, a lot to chew on.

Without a foundation of morals, well... Just look at Washington.

Was it Madison who said that the constitution was for a moral people?

The reason the founders believed this is because the document is singular in that it is not rules laid down by a government or king to the people, but rules emanating from the people to its government.

That's the brilliance of the constitution. It leaves us free to govern ourselves. Of course, one with no morals by definition cannot govern himself, and also is a danger to society.

Those carping liberals who will show up here sniping about how Christianity is not the only morality are right. There are many systems of morality that are not God-centered. Our founders happened to come from a culture steeped in Christianity.

So far, I haven't seen any of these alternate forms of morality work, and those who tear down our Judeo-Christian heritage have no idea what to build in its place, other than blind obedience to whatever our statist overlords tell us.

Amen to that,Silverfiddele! Well said!

Very thought provoking post, Z! I agree with Reagan..without God, our country is undone!

Yes, without morality and faith, chaos will reign, and this is what immorality thrives in and leaves us vulnerable to despots and evildoers.

I agree with you all;
I've done posts on how I don't believe capitalism can survive without Judeo-Christian adherence and inspiration, too.

The Dostoevski quote in the post really holds, in my opinion...

It's very scary now in America; who but God can reenergize us to morality, values, etc? Are children suddenly going to be raised in in-tact homes and parents who have faith and mothers who stay in the home and guide their children? Of course not

There'll always be the dope who comes to remind us that CHristians have high divorce rates, too.....I'd like to do a study on believing Christians v 'Christmas tree' CHristians...And, of course, Christians of any strength in belief make bad choices, too.

In general? Atheism is probably growing in this country because people find it difficult to adhere to the Commandments and we've taken CONSCIENCE out of the equation because the Left seems to find that confining and non inclusive :-)....We're not even 'allowed' to say something is WRONG because we get "Who says it's wrong?"

well, I can go on and on with this subject, but what's the point? I think we ALL KNOW things aren't going to get better, more moral, more full of values ("whose VALUES" the left will ask, meaning they simply don't KNOW good values which raised this country up for the last 250 years!!)...

chime in; any hope for America?
I personally think NOT.

Ronald Reagan's quote pretty much sums it all up and nicely done.

Hope you are having a great Sunday.

I think when times get tough, people are more likely to turn to God, to keep their marriages together, and be more serious about their lives and the future.

It's difficult to be apathetic, when we see things falling apart, that we thought would remain the same.

You really can't take things for granted when it's obvious how fragile our way of life is, and how easy it was for a pretender of a President, to be elected.

Alot of food for thought here, and it's no time for leaving worries behind us. We have to face up to the reality of possible hardship, and find the resolve to make things right, before it's too late.

I believe there's always hope.

With all due respect, Z, balanced budgets and good defense are necessary, but not sufficient, to the longevity of our nation.

I agree that we got to be the most powerful nation in the world primarily because of our religious foundations and work ethic. We are special in that respect.

With the current situation, ignoring debt levels just may be part of the strategy of the malicious President in the White House. BHO doesn't care if the nation defaults on its oblications. After all, he takes no responsibility himself, blaming everything on someone else.

Moral principals are relative to social justice to the current crowd. They do not understand a moral world. They are shallow in their beliefs.

George W Bush didn't get everything right, but he did understand our nation. He is an American, and our current President doesn't understand the term at all.

Bob, "with all due respect", you echoed exactly what I said, I think!? My whole post is about how it's not just economy and defense but morality and religious foundations that will keep America going....... well, it's all there :-)
Glad you agree with me.

I agree with you that this president doesn't have a clue and is even maliciously causing problems, all the while whining and brow beating the Republicans, though he has never produced any plans but to borrow more and raise the debt ceiling; To hear the coverage on CNN and the networks, you'd have thought he was lowering taxes, insisting that we can't borrow more, apologized for the horrid , insurmountable debt he's got us in, had a plan to save the world, and blames the Republicans that they won't let him! :-)

I would be amazed if you could find a Bible on the House or Senate floor.

Hey, spreadeagle...glad to have you here and I really liked your blog when I just went to visit, too......I encourage geeeZ readers to go by and say Hello.

ANd no, I'm quite certain Bibles wouldn't be allowed in Congress!! Heck, Santa Monica Hospital here in L.A. was bought by U.C.L.A. (State owned, of course) and I think they took the Bibles out of the bedside tables quicker than adding UCLA to the stationery! Seriously.
