Noah Webster.......Sunday Faith Blog

"...God commands you to choose for rulers, just men who will rule in the fear of God.  The preservation of a republican government depends on the faithful charge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted;...and the rights of the citizens will be violated... If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws."  Noah Webster.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding (Psalm 111:10).

The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love (Psalm 147:11).
Have a wonderful Sunday,
Z

Noah Webster was a prophet. It has come to pass.

Good morning, my precious!!

Noah Webster's "prophetic" quote - you can't get any more clear than that...wow.

Hope you have a blessed Sunday~

Noah Webster!

A wise man.

And he came up with a good method for tackling the conundrums of English spelling, too.

Have a blessed Lord's Day, Z.

Pray for our leaders.

Z - And something from Noah Webster's cousin (? - see below), Daniel:

'A country cannot subsist well without Liberty - nor Liberty without Virtue.'

~~~
I googled both Noah and Daniel Webester to see if they were related and got one response that they were cousins - they rest said that they were not related.
SF....so true.
Susannah.....you have a blessed Sunday, too. I hope your mom's doing well.
AOW...very wise man and, as SF said, a prophet.
nicrap: Tell us!
Elbro; That's what we're supposed to do. And, believe it or not, I do. I pray that they GO AWAY (just kidding!)
Once, during a prayer time with a group I belong to, someone did say "And Lord, we lift up our president to you today.." and I chimed in with "And if you could just keep him up there for a while..." :-) I swear!
Sue, that's VERY interesting..you'd think they'd know for sure, huh? Thanks for letting us know.
"Pray for our leaders."
Well, ok Elbro, but I think at this point, we need them to pray for us. We're going to need it.
Z - Sunday Afternoon Trivia (':
I checked further on the Noah and Daniel Webster cousinship.
Wikipedia says that they were in fact cousins.
As a Senator, Daniel sponsored Noah's copyright bill.
~~~

Also, a few other entries confirmed that.

~~~
Noah was the elder cousn, having been born in 1758.
Daniel was born in 1782.
Noah lived to be 85; Daniel, 70.
Pris, I'm trying to picture Obama praying for US, right? :-)
Sue, it's fascinating that so many other sites told you they're not related or weren't sure.
Sounds like you feel this is definitive....where'd they live? Did they both live in the same area?
Z - Noah was born and died in
Connecticut - New Haven.
Daniel was born in New Hampshire
and is buried in Massachusetts.
(btw,z, if you do a post on casseroles, I made a hamburger/cabbage casserole for supper tonight that was delicious!
I got it from Cooks.com on google.
They have good recipes - and they don't put up a block when you try to print it out.)
Sue, that's a good idea for a post, maybe I'll do it.
Remind me if you don't see it within a week...thanks.
I'd like that recipe; think it could be done as deliciously with ground turkey?
Pris said...
"Pris, I'm trying to picture Obama praying for US, right? :-)"
Z, I wasn't thinking of Obama as a leader. I can't imagine him praying for anyone but himself!
nicrap said...
...Could it be that you really do not know? Or just cranking me up? ;)
Anyway: here
"...if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted..."
Well said and we see clear evidence of that in those who voted for a fellow who wouldn't even let someone else save the unborn who survived an abortion. Dreadful, just dreadful.
Z said...
Pris, I thought that you couldn't have imagined Obama when you said that! No, I can't imagine him praying for US, that is for sure.
he'd have to get that little rug out,...etc.. (smile)
nicrap, I wouldn't 'crank you up'...I'd really forgotten.
It's the perfect addition to this post, thanks for that.
Poor God. What he must be thinking.
MK, imagine that? The media never made anything of that, of course, so most people don't know. I've had liberals argue that point with me. 'Stupid is as stupid does'.
And then I had a liberal comment yesterday on that completely benign, excellent description of the debt ceiling in my video below, that it was by the "HERITAGE FOUNDATION LOL!"
You see, they're not even WILLING to learn. If it's what they think's a Conservative source, it's NOTHING. If he'd bothered to watch the video, he'd have seen it didn't hurt his precious, fellow non-thinking dopes.
This is why they bash FOX and Limbaugh, Coulter, etc: Seems like the mantra of some on the left is "If you can't fight, insult them"
Odd, since I don't know a conservative to go to liberal sites and call people names and insult the writers! :-) Who has the time? And, maybe, who on our side gets PAID to do that?
...oh, i am sure but God has other instruments to command:
You look pale and gaze
And put on fear and cast yourself in wonder,
To see the strange impatience of the heavens:
But if you would consider the true cause
Why all these fires, why all these gliding ghosts,
Why birds and beasts from quality and kind,
Why old men fool and children calculate,
Why all these things change from their ordinance
Their natures and preformed faculties
To monstrous quality,--why, you shall find
That heaven hath infused them with these spirits,
To make them instruments of fear and warning
Unto some monstrous state.
(Cassius in Julius Caesar)
...Even Cassius was an honorable man, i am sure. ;)
Susannah said...
"he'd have to get that little rug out,...etc.."
Indeed.
(notice I copied everything but the 'smile'...)
Z said...
nicrap....excellent usage of that quote for our subject..thanks.
Susannah, it's tough to imagine, isn't it. But, I keep hearing Obama say "HOLY" Koran and never mentioning the Bible....have you ever heard him say HOLY Bible? (smile...? Kind of hard to on this one, isn't it..that would be a sardonic smile, of course!)
nicrap said...
...you disarm me repeatedly, ma'am. Sometime with your candor, and sometime - what should i say - your lack of guile?
Deliciae meae esse cum filiis hominum: My delights were to be with the children of men. (Proverbs 8:31)
:)
nicrap said...
...your child-like lack of guile, i should have said. :)
Z said...
nicrap, I think it's "child like dumbness"....
maybe I'm just not getting something you said or that quote?
Susannah said...
Yes, Z. Exactly. Generally a person attributes the power of the word "Holy" only to something that one considers to actually be - Holy.
eh, Mr. Obama?
(Makes me want to choke.)
nicrap said...
...Not at all, Ms. Z. I would never even dream of suggesting anything of the sort.
