Rachel Maddow on Meet the Press

Do you think this is normal? Imagine Tim Russert having Keith Olbermann on Meet the Press? I couldn't believe it....a woman who makes her living disdainfully and nastily only promoting one point of view, as liberal as she can get it (This morning she said the phrase "Democrats AND Liberals.." hmmmm), and they had her on a "PANEL" on Meet the Press, practically as profoundly American an institution as the New York Times once was. I mean, her show is entertainment for liberals, it's not a show which fairly shows ANYthing to ANYbody. She doesn't seem to even try, though I'll admit she even takes offense at Obama from time to time (not liberal enough). They had her on a panel with Dashiell and Army, they didn't have her on as a separate interview of a far-left enigma, an oddity, for a peek into its thinking....that would have been fine.

I thought that she was on this esteemed Sunday morning show was prophetic........and pathetic. Don't you agree that shows which masquerade as interest to us all might have politicians from both sides and at least have professional, civil and dignified panel members? RACHEL MADDOW on a MEET THE PRESS panel discussion? For some reason, that really got to me. How indicative of something I still don't want to recognize of this country.

But, of course, when people elect Al Franken to the office of Senator....well.....there goes the neighborhood. By the way, even Hannity and O'Reilly have differing sides on their show far more than she does....You think Meet the Press will invite Hannity on some time soon?

Doubtful. Geico Insurance and Sargento Cheese pulled there advertising from the Glenn Beck program due to "hate speech"... the liberal mantra for anyone giving an opposing view to Obama's agenda! A friend of mine, an attorney, sent an email to both and directly asked Sargento on their reply back "exactly what language in Beck's program did they define to be "hate speech" and to send a transcript of the offending speech". They have not replied a second time yet!

Who do they think buys their over priced cheese? Certainly not the "entitlement crowd". In my opinion Glenn Beck merely points out truth and shows the evidence he digs up to support it. Nothing hateful there. Now it seems that Meet the Press should change their name to Meet the Left Wing Propagandists!!!

Hoosier Mom, imagine Keith Olbermann and compare him with Beck? Beck's angry and open, no doubt about it, and witheringly critical of the obama thugs, but Olbermann (or Maddow)? They're off limits?

It's stunning.
Sargento was the one company I did NOT know had pulled support. I know Geico did and I'm thrilled, their commercials are awful, but Procter & Gamble, too, and a couple of others, have also pulled their ads from Beck.

Yes, Olbermann can look into a camera and call Conservatives the worst of names and still go back to slamming Bush and anyone who ever met him, but let Beck criticize the president's plans and THEY PULL. It shows Americans a lot.
I honestly don't feel we will ever be a united country again.

I think we all know who we can blame for that; as they say about Bush "Every time he tried to reach across the aisle, his hand came back with fewer fingers"..

How sad that Conservatives may have to ramp UP the hate just to get independents to notice what's going on.
But, for Maddow and Olbermann and the left of the leftwingers to call town hallers 'hateful' is quite a new phenomenon in this country; even Pelosi and Hillary shrilled that DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!..until.....

Meet the press is a joke... Unless you consider how unabashedly leftists the press really is, and then it kind of makes sense that they would have leftists on...

I guess I have to drop Geico now :)

Maddow is one of the lamest journalists I've seen on TV here and Europe. Not surprising her ratings stink.

Maybe they just had her on as eye-candy.

All of the criticism of Fox and they are the ONLY network that has people representing both sides.

Finally, point of correction. The people of Minnesota did not elect Al Franken, the Democratic party stole it for him.

Z said...

Well, Brooke, but it WAS an institution which ALL Americans used to enjoy watching, when all parties were treated respectfully and even Russert would never have dreeeeamed of having a joke like Maddow on. But, of course, Hannity is now the 'joke' simply because he doesn't agree with the Left...as if his criticism is 1/2 as belittling as Maddow's!

Tio.... that is a HILARIOUS comment!! Some eye candy, RIGHT!!
I used that cartoon image of Maddow because most of her other pictures when I googled were in a clean bowling shirt and real stiff new jeans..blech.

FrogBurger; EXCELLENT POINT..just another NBC ploy to advertise their image...use Maddow to pump up her audience..AS IF.

Chuck...I stand corrected, you are SO right about that 'election'...good point.

Ability-wise, Rachel Maddow is lacking it by a factor of exactly 100%. She conducts an interview with the same skill level as Chris Matthews: none.

In his Examiner column, Dan Spencer has two not-to-be-missed links: 1) Rachel Maddow interrupting Dick Armey to "correct" him by saying that MoveOn.org never ran an ad comparing Bush to Hitler; and 2) the ad MoveOn.org ran comparing Bush to Hitler.

See it here: http://www.examiner.com/x-268-Right-Side-Politics-Examiner~y2009m8d16-Is-MSNBC-blowhard-Rachel-Maddow-lying-or-ignorant

You might guess what his conclusions are in his question is this Ph.D. Rhodes Scholar "lying or ignorant."

Her presence trivializes MTP even more than their usual fare, if that's possible.

Dick Armey isn't much of a speaker, but I loved it when he brought out the Medicare/Medicaid unfunded liability numbers and painted the "government option" as Freddie Med ( or Fannie Aid or something like that). He shut Team Maddow/ Gregory down cold.

"This morning she said the phrase "Democrats AND Liberals.."

That is how Maddow sees showing both sides, being fair and balanced.

By making sure she shows both sides of the issues: Democrats and Liberals.

Z said...

Joe, Deborah, she's just a hack, let's face it...there's little integrity. Of COURSE she's lying....these are the same people who demean the Right for realizing there can BE no private insurance ability when there's a date for the end of writing policies in the bill AND there's no way the private companies will stay open if the thing went public..
Yes, her presence trivialized the show that's already been marginalized with Russert gone, though he had gone further and further left the last few years....making the information and the coverage less reliable.

FJ..I couldn't watch her any more and didn't hear Army..good for him!

Dmarks..that's funny! And SO TRUE..

which it isn't NOW, I guess...if we're to believe today's news that that's off the table.

Bob Beckel made me laugh the other night; He said "Whatever, WE WILL HAVE A PLAN"

I'm thinking that the Health Care Bill could become ONLY what thinking Americans want....fix Medicare, make some kind of insurance available for those who don't have it, and don't insure illegals.......and it'll still be painted as OBAMA'S HEALTH PLAN..HE WON (right~!)

Z,
Maddow? Gregory is a joke. Tim Russert must be rolling over in his grave. The last bastion of any semblance moderation in the MSM died with him.

I don't agree with Pelosi about anything except she made a 2006 statement about those she admired. She mentioned FDR, another disagreement I have with her, as being a "disrupter."

I would consider myself a disrupter. Nice word Nancy. I guess you aren't a total oxygen processor, my name for people who do nothing but turn oxygen into carbon dioxide.

Just like Oprah. When she includes pro-life or pro-traditional-values she always finds a Klansman rather than a reasonable conservative. (And since I couldn't picture a real racist (or at least a White Racist) appearing on her show I wonder if they are actors.)

Z said...

L&0, I remember Russert and his kindness and dignity....he'd have had Maddow ON but maybe as an enigma, as an example of a leftist interviewer...not on a PANEL asking for her opinion!

Nobody's answered my question on my post:
WHEN DO YOU THINK MEET THE PRESS WILL INVITE HANNITY FOR A PANEL?
(OH, I forgot, Hannity is NOT on a (sinking in ratings) NBC show, so....

Shoprat, great point. VERY good point....yes, she'll find THE most extreme person she can find, a really loathsome type to show that PRO LIFE is about....you're so right. Oprah lost me ten years ago completely..then her support of Obama completely did it for me.\

A really sad thing is that Jerry Springer comes on Paris television just at the hour teens get home from school...Nice, huh? And the Left wonders why 'they' hate us! (of course, they LOVE us now that we have THE ONE!!)

I wonder if Oprah's on in Europe..I never saw her there while living in Paris or Munich, but Larry King sure is. And CNN Int'l is MUCH more liberal than even our CNN here...amazing.

I can't see them inviting Hannity. Hannity is a real man. He probably scares the cr@p out of them.

Maggie Thornton said...

No they won't have Hannity on. These shows are all jokes now. It is sad.

Actually, it was leaning a bit this way with Russert in the seat.

Pat Jenkins said...

well said z, her performance as a shill for public option health care yesterday shows how much nbc IS in the tank for obama. the sad thing is now gregory is getting beat in the ratings by someone even more up his rear, this week with stephy....

I don't watch those Sunday morning talk shows that bring the party line to the air waves to be regurgitated over and over in an endless loop for the day and the week.

I did watch Obama's Colorado health care spiel from start to finish, so I consider that I've done above and beyond the call of duty in that respect. I did think some interesting questions were raised but was amazed that after lauding each questioner for "the great question", Obama instead of answering the questions only went into his sales pitch to generate support of his plan. Actually, maybe that shouldn't have surprised me — he's a demagogue, IMO.

Prior to taking the first question he informed the audience that the missus and the girls were of to pick a basketful of peaches — sounds like material for a future Oprah show, no?

Bowling shirts? Blech.

I haven't watched MTP since Tim Russert died.

Hannity on MTP? Only if their ratings drop low enough. Every conservative watching would phone 10 other conservatives and scream, "Turn it on...you WON"T believe this!"

Z said...

well, Jen, I didn't mean to cast aspersions on bowling shirts or bowling, it's just an expression we used to use when joking about femininity.........just that Maddow doesn't wear many feminine, attractive things....some of the Google images looked as if she'd come off the farm.

Ducky, I'd rather have Conservative or freedom-inspired "homos and dykes" as you say (I don't use those words so you're very offensive rather than people like you.

I try not to give Mr. Maddow grief over being named Rachel. Even John Wayne's real name was Marion.

Maybe we could rewrite that classic Johnny Cash song:

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Rachel."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Rachel."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Rachel."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Rachel!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Rachel.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Rachel! I still hate that name!

Oh, I didn't realize that 'bowling shirts' was a phrase used to describe women who don't know how to dress appropriately.
Heh.
But, Z, I really do despise bowling shirts.

And Rachel Maddow needs to hire a stylist if she's trying to take it up a notch. :-)

Ducky? Is she gay? I'd only heard her discuss politics, not her sex life.

Tim Russert must be rolling over in his grave. I really doubt he would have tolerated any of that propaganda they are promoting now. I was a huge MSNBC fan when he was around. When he died news at MSNBC went with it.
As far as Beck goes, he only tells half the story, watch the first episode with the moms. He wanted nothing to do with the facts that the Federe Reserve audit issue or the FACT Ron Pal started the tea parties.

I do however find it a real shame that FOX is the one place I can find anything resembling real news - how sad is that!!??
