"It's a WHAT?"

Did you hear about this? "The House voted (yesterday) to reject a measure that would have banned sex-selection abortions in the United States, pitting Republicans and Democrats in a showdown over a woman's right to choose, which opponents contended was "intended to chip away at woman's right to obtain safe, legal medical care."  (Z: how they can explain that is beyond me, but they will try anything)

Here's a stunning interpretation by ABC's John Parkinson:

The bill was perceived by Democrats as political maneuver to coax liberal lawmakers into supporting the bill or face the prospect of an onslaught of campaign advertisements this fall highlighting a lawmaker's vote to support sex-selection abortions.
Still, only 20 Democrats took the bait and broke from their party to vote with the majority of Republicans. Seven GOPers opposed the measure.

Really?  But, perhaps, those Democrats just voted their conscience?   Can that happen anymore?

And then Mr. Parkinson opines like this!!:

After the plight of blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng captured international headlines this month, Republicans had hoped to capitalize on the momentum of that awareness to ensure that sex-selection abortions are not legal in the United States.

SO...was your first thought when you heard about the Chinese dissident "China!.....sex-selection abortions!?" It wasn't mine because I figured the dissident was just fed up with everything about China...I hadn't learned WHY he was considered dissident.  So, I guess this does make sense.

WOW....well, Mr. Parkinson's take is interesting.

Do you think there should be a ban on sex-selection abortions?   Most of you will tell me you'd like a ban on abortions, and the public is starting to feel that way, too, according to recent polls...........what do you think?

How much of your vote would depend on a candidate's view on abortion?

I may be only one out here on this limb, but I find aborting a baby because it's a girl no worse than aborting a baby because it's an inconvenience.

It's killing a baby; does the reason really matter?

When spelling and grammar are no longer prerequisites to get in to journalism school you didn't seriously expect logic to be included in the curriculum did you? The media, most of it, writes to support the agenda of their employers and they've been doing that since the days of Addison and Steele. The only reporter to honestly believe in truth, justice, and the American way was Clark Kent!

No time for the rest until I get home from work other than to say that gender based abortion is beyond despicable.

I don't base my vote entirely on one issue. I do, of course, look at a candidate's position on all issues.

One huge problem: often a candidate says on thing, then changes his position once in office.

For example, one reason that I voted for GWB in 2000 was his opposition to nation building. GWB's position on nation building certainly changed, huh?

I find sex-selection abortion despicable. But it isn't surprising that we have arrived to that "brave new world." As Lisa pointed out: aborting a baby because it's a girl no worse than aborting a baby because it's an inconvenience.

I'm sure that sex-selection abortion occurs with some frequency.

Utter nonsense. This is a stunt by Lila Rose, the female James o"Keefe.

If O'Keefe is the Godard of right wing film making then I guess Rose must be the Agnes Varda.

Her film was heavily edited as usual and at no time was there any advocacy of gender specific abortion.

Just another stunt by the fringe right. Doesn't take much to get you folks whipped up.

I have to admit I am conflicted by the abortion issue. I generally do not support it, but I do believe there are legitimate exceptions: to save the life of the mother, when physicians know the child is physically or mentally impaired, or if we are talking about Ducky. Selective breeding is called “eugenics.” This was the brainchild of Margaret Sanger, proving once more that the left isn’t known for having many good ideas.

Silverfiddle said...

It was a stupid law, but I understand why the GOP did it. You explained the political tactics.

Gone unmentioned by the press is why the Chinese dissident is a dissident: He and his wife are copious breeders by ChiCom standards. Part of his dissent is against China's mandatory abortions and the girl-killing sex selection that goes along with the one-child policy.

Rita...aborting any baby is despicable, but it's legal.

These people went into a Planned Parenthood and that was that.
This wasn't a 'play' someone wrote, they came in and got the information they needed to prove to the country what PP is up to.
THat's the point...the idea of sex selection is Hitlerian and the Left doesn't even see it.

She was fired immediately, by the way, so it's clear this happened and not much editing had gone on. What's it take to understand that?

Ducky, you're entitled to come and disagree. And yes, most of us think it's a serious issue to be aborting babies anyway, but to start picking the sex is a slippery slope most good people would try to avoid.
Considering the polls against abortion at all in this country, you're sounding more like a fringe leftie than usual.

Just think of the millions of babies our society has deprived of life through abortions. It's hard to cope with the number of future Americans our nation lawfully allowed to be killed, isn't it? It's barbaric, it's evil. It's the greatest of sins and a national disgrace. And aborting babies for no other reason than they're girls is particularly heinous. We live in sick times.

It looks like John Edwards is now qualified for the 2016 democratic primary.

I remember in High School a friend of mine had 3 abortions at Planned Parenthood. At the time I just supported her choice even though it bothered me an couldn't imagine going through it. I didn't have too much of an opinion on it then.
She has 3 children now. But back to that I couldn't believe how crowded the place was and nobody was there for breast screening I can assure you that. It was like manufactured abortions.
I think abortion makes it too easy to not have to take responsibility for both men and women. Although it's always harder on the woman as usual.

I am really tired of this game of euphemisms being played. Nobody has the ultimate right of choice with their bodies.

Nobody.

If a woman does crack, she is jailed. If a woman takes prescription drugs illegally, she is breaking the law. If a woman tries to commit suicide, she will be institutionalized, and there is not a law against suicide.

The so-called right of choice has nothing to do with women's health issues. It has everything to do with aborting the life of a human being. Argue about what is human and when, but you cannot get past the fact that women want the right to kill their young.

I'm against gender choice abortion. However a woman who has that reason, doesn't have to say that is the reason, does she?

As distasteful as this subject is, my vote would not be swayed by it. The country will not rise or fall based on this issue unless abortion was mandated by the government, as it is in China.

When I first saw the video of the Planned Parenthood counselor telling what she thought was a potential client that she could hold off on aborting until the fetus is developed enough to determine its gender, if she wanted only a girl, I thought, "there goes their argument that the abortions are made available to poor, suffering women who are in ill health, or just financially unable to support a child."

If a woman is in ill health, or poor, wouldn't it be just as difficult to keep a little girl, as it would be if it is a little boy? Of course, if she is getting the abortion just because it's free, and the child is an inconvenience....

What I'm wondering is where are all the indignant women's rights organizations that have been ranting and raving for years about equal treatment of/for women?

Hypocrites, all.

How anyone could vote against the banning of genocide is beyond my comprehension, but I guess the lefties consider it just another feather in the hat of their heroine, Margaret Sanger.

I wonder when they will declare a national holiday for her?

I guess Liberal Mann (?) is practicing his 'talking points,' just like the rest of the poor, deluded, followers of all things Obama.

Yesterday, we got a real taste of what this election season is going to be like, when a volunteer of Oraganize for America showed up at our house. Funny, but she said practically the same thing, verbatim. She lost her temper, too, and asked if we really thought that he'd even had enough time to fix anything, considering the "do nothing Congress who fights him on everything, but don't offer any solutions to anything."

My husband, who is retired military, said that he'd had the Congress and the Senate for the first two years, and the only thing he accomplished was to get a bill passed that does nothing but "screws me, and the rest of the people like me."

When she asked, again, if we didn't think that he should be allowed more time, my husband answered, emphatically, "No! He has had too much time, already."

You would have thought that he had slapped her! Her face turned beet red in anger, and she said, "WHAT??? YOU THINK HE'S HAD TOO MUCH TIME??"

At this turn of events, my husband said that he was finished with the discussion, and told her to have a nice day.

She practically shouted "OKAY" and started scribbling, madly, on something she was holding in her hand. She did that for a good two minutes, before walking off the porch, where she scribbled for another minute or so. No doubt, we're on some kind of list, now.

She started out as sweet as pie, in a 'come let us reason together' mode, until the discussion wasn't going her way, and then it was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, she changed so quickly.

What I've talked about here, wasn't the whole discussion, of course, but suffice it to say that it went downhill, very rapidly.

I don't understand why they think that we're weak minded enough to cross over to their (dark) side, and there is absolutely no reasoning with those people in getting them to see the light. :)

Yes, half of America isn't QUITE as dumb as you'd like to think. Or Obama would like to think.

Wall St is mostly full of Democrats, believe it or not .
Planned Parenthood is a place where (SURPRISE!) when video cameras are hidden, they show their true colors. Must be only the one-off time that they promised underage girls abortions or sex-selection, huh? They just happened to catch them on that day? :-) How naive can you BE to believe that?

we'll keep informing and you keep hammering. Scary, really.

Our wonderful buddy and ex-commenter FrogBurger emailed me this today in response to my post and the comments:

"I'm surprised that nobody is asking the question as to what if the woman had showed up and said she had sex with a non white person and would like to abort b/c of the color of the baby.

I'd like to bring up this argument to people who think aborting because the baby is not of your liking is ok."

I'll just add that, if Margaret Sanger had her way, they'd probably be giving specials at PP for racists who felt a half-black child should die in the womb.

ED: That is how I feel about life. If it's rape, it's not the unborn child's fault and, if a child is God's will, a rape doesn't negate the life.

We are the reason that people like you have the ability to motor-mouth, over the Internet, insulting all that is good and moral.

To quote something you've probably heard often: "Freedom is not free. Some gave much, some gave all" and I would gladly do my part, again, even after encountering individuals like you.

I am proud to be an American, and if need be, would gladly, and proudly, give my life for her.

In my humble opinion, no one should be President of the United States who has not served in any branch of the U.S. Military.

Military and civilian lifestyles are as different as night and day. Those who serve, do so by their own choice, and the greatest majority do so with great honor and dignity.

I pose only one question to you, Sir: Do you love your country enough to die for it? If not, you need to keep your overbearing, obnoxious comments to yourself.

Isn't this an irony? I fought for your right to voice your opinions, no matter how assinine they are.

"For Mr. Obama to make up for what he has already done to this country he would have to spend the rest of his life on his knees begging forgiveness.

Mr. Obama it seems is much more adept at bowing than kneeling, I cannot help but feel that as he was bowing to our enemies he was simultaneously inviting the citizens of the United States of America to kiss his Democratic Posterior.

On Jan 20 1981 I and my classmates at Camp MacKall on Ft. Bragg were awakened around 1am to the loudspeakers in the camp announcing that Ronald Regan had officially taken over the position of Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the United States.

In freezing temperatures every one of us got out of his sleeping bag and left our tar-paper shacks and were yelling and screaming, beating on trash cans and their lids in joy and relief.

Relief from being under the command of a man we could not respect, and finally being under the command of a man we could.

They played the Ballad of the Green Beret, we sang, they played the national anthem and every one of us in our underwear in the freezing cold stood at attention saluting and singing at the top of our lungs.

I wish I could be with the guys who risk their lives on a daily basis in Afghanistan or Iraq or anywhere they may be under fire when they get the news that Obama is no longer their CnC. That kind of joy can only be experienced, it cannot be conveyed.

And if these guys aren't allowed to piss on a dead terrorist....maybe they can legally do it to a departed traitor's image?

The first thing I said to my daughters and wife after watching news together about this was that (my view) gender selection abortion is wrong. However, the video purposely gives the impression that the issue is anti-woman. It could have had a mom saying I want a girl, not a boy. Or, a woman saying, my husband wants a boy not a girl. Whatever, I didn't like the "convenient" girl issue, a la war on women. Abortion and sex slection abortion is a legit argument. If I were a woman I would be pissed off! Women are not pawns.

On what Ducky asked Jan and Lucky, it was relatively tame. While serving gives a unique (wonderful and or horrible) experience, it certainly does not result in a one view experience. Some vets are Progressives, some are far right, some are moderate.

Most of us are suffering. Decrsed income, increased health care cost, increased gas prices, increased food prices, decreased or non existant retirements, etc.

It easy for me to stay focused. My finances suck and neither party seens to give shit. They are both in the tank.

I was under the impression both parties wanted to create jobs! If so, they would address capital requirements, restructuring of banks, adressinmg trade imbalances, simplifying the tax code?! These things would influence the flow of capital. Where are you Repubs and Dems?

Well, KP, neither he, nor I would say that his experience was wonderful, having served two terms in Viet Nam..but the point is that he served proudly, and with honor.

It's just too bad that too many of our politicians aren't serving the citizens of the country in the same way.
