An older man walks into a bar wearing a stovepipe hat, a waistcoat and a phony beard. He sits down at a bar and orders a drink. As the bartender sets it down, he asks, "Going to a party?" "Yeah, a costume party," the man answers, "I'm supposed to come dressed as my love life." "But you look like Abe Lincoln," protests the bartender. "That's right. My last four scores were seven years ago." ya...ya..I just couldn't resist :-) By the way, THIS LINK I found while googling for my image shows who they think is Lincoln at Gettysburg in 1863...it's a photo only discovered in 2007 and maybe you hadn't yet seen it, either; what a fascinating glimpse of the past... you can see a man in the distance with the stovepipe hat on and experts think that is Abraham Lincoln...very cool. z - good one.
Cute joke and very cool photo, Z.
Have you seen the photo of Lincoln-- I think he was giving his State of the Union address-- in which you could see John Wilkes Booth behind him in the crowd? Eerie as hell.
Ah yes, I remember that day. Yep, that's Abe.
Mustang! :-)
glad you liked it, Sue.
Karen, I don't think I have seen that...wow! Ya, talk about irony.
Yup... this Wiki article has a picture. It was Lincoln's 2nd inaugural address, March 4, 1865. If you blow up the picture (it's huge), you can see Booth in the upper balcony area, slighty right of center.
This is the speech that convinced him to assassinate Lincoln-- "Now, by God, I'll put him through," he said to a companion, "that's the last speech he'll ever make!"
Creepy to think that he may have been uttering those very words at the moment this pic was snapped.
Oops, forgot the link
Karen, is Lincoln IN that picture? There are so many people it's hard to see anybody, but I think that's Booth in the top row about 2 people to our right of that big white statue in the middle? Am I right?
VERY creepy.
Lincoln is basically right smack in the center of the picture, in the second tier. Booth is in the top balcony, just to the right of the balcony's vertical pole.
Karen, thanks....I can't believe Lincoln's sooo tall, but he was 6'4"...I just checked. I hadn't realized he was that tall. So sad to look at him and consider what happened to him.
When you say "pole" I guess you mean the balistrade vertical...I can't tell which guy, I thought he was the one in the middle on top looking straight at the camera...but...experts think that's definitely Booth, huh?
