"Let them eat cake...AFTER someone tastes it for poison..."

UPDATE: A dear friend emails me tonight reminding me "What about when Obama had PIZZA sent in from, I think, St. Louis? Any food taster THEN?" GOOD POINT!

Check THIS OUT from Agence France Presse....They are GLOWING at the Obama visit, or so it seems. They seem surprised that the Obama's paid for their meal, too. One Frenchman said he felt like he'd 'seen God'...I guess that's pretty popular lately?(make sure you watch that, by the way...thanks, Always On Watch).

Yes, the piece about the restaurant meal 'forgot' to report about the food taster. But, see the second link,...it happened.

What I'D like to know is who the sacrificial lamb who was willing to die for Obama is and how much they paid him? I wouldn't do that....even for French food, and that's saying something!

IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS: Blogger Wordsmith from Nantucket comments that Bush did this once, too, in London....Yes, the Brits were not happy then, either..(article linked by Wordsmith on my comment page) ..If I were that nervous, I don't know WHAT I'd do; eat at one's own embassy, I guess? But, you could get a nut who passed all clearance there, too. Anybody have a better solution? (be polite :-) (Mr. Z, do NOT respond to this!! )

I loved Mr. Z's post! Yes, Obama is on a business trip for us. He's behaved rather rudely, don't you think?

I'm fine with the food taster, though. I'd rather see him discredited fair and square in the marketplace of ideas, have his baleful ignorance tossed on the ash heap of history where it belongs, than deified through the act of an assassin, as was JFK.

How do you like this one!!

PARIS (June 7) — People gawked and cameras clicked as the Obamas cut a wide figure through the French capital even while confined to a presidential motorcade. It was more personal for the few kept not so distant — the restaurant owner who "saw God," the chauffeur reveling in a "magnificent mission."

According to our free encyclopedia, "A food taster is a person that takes food (or drink) to be served to someone else to confirm that it is safe to eat and does not contain toxins or poisons. The person to whom the food is going to be served is usually an important person, like an emperor or monarch, or anyone that could possibly be under threat of assassination or harm.

Food tasters have several functions:

The safety of the food may be determined by observing whether or not the food taster subsequently becomes ill.

Note, however, that food tasting would not be effective against slow-acting poisons that take a long time to show any visible symptoms.

The food taster may also be responsible for the preparation and serving of food. The hope is that tasters will be diligent in preventing poison from being introduced into food, in order to safeguard their own lives.

In the event that the target (emperor, monarch, etc.) should fall ill or die, the similar illness or death of the taster provides evidence of deliberate poisoning."

So there you have it, folks. We're back in the early middle ages. Didn't take long, did it?

Deborah, you must mean Mr. Z's comment on the last post! (Sorry my FAITH BLOG got overcome with political nastiness, but I couldn't resist when I heard the FOOD TESTER story!)

DID YOU ALL SEE THE LINKED VIDEO? WOW.

Ya, I'm Here To Say it.......MAGNIFIQUE..a GODLY MISSION! IT's OBAMA!!!

Mustang, thanks...

WHO WAS IT? WHO is willing to die?

The WordSmith from Nantucket said...

I'd love to see a book on the history of food tasters throughout the ages. Have any ever actually saved someone from poison? Died in service from poisoning?

The WordSmith from Nantucket said...

Apparently Bush had a food taster in London in 2003. Probably not the only time, I would think.

Osama bin Laden uses them.

Donn Draeger, a martial arts practioner and scholar was poisoned in Indonesia, where poisoning is common, for trying to "steal" their secrets.

Sorry I wsan't clear. Yes. Everyone, Mr. Z had a wonderful post on today's Sunday faith blog. It just got buried there.

Z said...

thanks, Wordsmith, I wondered about that.

And, of course, the Brits thought it was as insulting, apparently, as the French did. But, the French story was far worse in French; the German media said the French chefs were outraged, the media laughing, but I haven't seen that here. I looked a bit, but to no avail.

Lots of things aren't in Google...odd

ONE MORE THING that I believe deserves conversation:

WHO WOULD DOOOO THAT?

"I'll eat it, and if I get very sick and/or DIE........oh, well?" WHAT?

As you said, welcome to the middle ages.

Perhaps King Obama will be a merciful ruler. I kind of doubt it, though.

No wonder these leftist idiots are worshiping Obama as a god:

The Divine Right of Kings is a political and religious doctrine of royal absolutism. It asserts that a monarch is subject to no earthly authority, deriving his right to rule directly from the will of God. The king is thus not subject to the will of his people, the aristocracy, or any other estate of the realm, including the church. The doctrine implies that any attempt to depose the king or to restrict his powers runs contrary to the will of God and may constitute heresy.

Saw this this morning on Drudge...
'Royalty-from the beginning of time had food tasters-
I guess Bush and B Hussein O are 'royal' as are many of our elected 'servants?!! At least they think they are...
There is a Biblical reference to a food taster ---Now this has gotten me going-I'm checking my Strong's Concordance...
Just noticed ---Mustang said it all... (-:

I find pathetic that our leaders use food tasters like in the middle ages. Why don't they have a chemical test kit with them and get their food tested? How complicated would that be?

And for people who think Obama is god, or any other leader or rock star or movie star, those should really get a life on their own.

If I was high profile, I know for a fact that I'd use a taster! I would hate to die eating good food, that would suck. But seriously tricorder technology is emerging such that a taster human being will be an obselete notion of the past one day.

To the crux of your article, I cannot STAND our President. But I don't fault him for using a taster, lemme tell ya.

Deborah said it well at the beginning. I don't like him and I have made that quite clear but I do not want him murdered. It is a tough call. On one hand there is a real danger eating in a place that is unsecure. On the other hand, it is a little insulting to the restaurant.

He certainly embarassed us on his apology tour but I have a hard time getting excited about this.

Nehemiah was about as close to a "food taster" as I know of in Scripture, since he was the cupbearer to the king.

Did you see the European elections?
Check this map
http://www.lemonde.fr/
Blue is Conservatives.
It's a good day for Europe

Z said...

Frogburger. Mr. Z is going to write about the EU elections..sit tight!!
a VERY good day, indeed!

And, the Lakers might win, making it an even BETTER day.......I HOPE!

FrogBurger said...

No blue is going to win today. Go Magic.

His first faux pas was when he ordered fries on the side.

Z said...

So, Mr and Mrs Z, while watching the LAKERS WIN (HURRAH!) decided the best way for any president to keep safe in a restaurant is make the reservation days beforehand, then not tell anybody who it is until they WALK IN, and as they walk in, a Secret Service guy hired especially for this kind of detail goes into the kitchen and watches them cook.

Done deal...what do you thinK!? :-)

FrogBurger said...

Would make sense b/c I'm sure there are poisons that may not work right away, no? So in that case the taster is useless. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Love this

"BRUSSELS – Conservatives scored victories in some of Europe's largest economies Sunday as voters punished left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and other nations.

Some right-leaning parties said the results vindicated their reluctance to spend more on company bailouts and fiscal stimulus to combat the global economic crisis."

Should we move back? :)

I can't imagine using a food taster. I'd be worried about the taster, for crying out loud.

Fame, they can have it. I'll take my chances with a pot luck dinner.

Yea Z, Go Lakers!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Pao Gasol ROCKED!

Frogburger....Europe's appalled at what obama's doing here. Our people are too ideological to want the best for the people; they want the best for their PARTY to ensure their power: and I BELIEVE most of that power revolves around social topics like abortion.. Priorities, you know.

NOT SURE YOU GUYS NOTICED I ADDED SOMETHING TO MY POST TONIGHT;

A friend reminded me that Obama had PIZZA BROUGHT IN, SENT FROM (I THINK) St. Louis.

Any food taster used THEN? Hmmm

Much of what BHO is doing was also done by GWB. See this about the gold medal which BHO got from the Saudi king. Some of my friends (not bloggers) were making a big deal out of that medal. But the argument that BHO got something special and unique from the Saudi king turns out to be false.

I think we need to step back and make periodically check ourselves for ODS.

Sometimes, regardless of who it is, our leaders will do things we won't like, but it has to do with them behaving like statesmen and doing things that aren't completely in their control.

I believe it's when they're acting more like politician than statesman is when they, and we, get in trouble.

Here's my suggestion : quit pretending you know a damn thing about presidential security.

Really, this is trivial in the extreme unless you are upset you got beat out for the job.

Remember when daddy Bush puked all over the Chinese premier at a banquet because someone probably slipped something into his choy yoke?

You wouldn't want the president embarrassing us like that again, would you?

Z said...

Ducky, I'd love to hear you on any Republican demanding a TASTER.

And, who would you recommend dies for Obama?

As for Bush? If you have never been intensely sick in a social situation you felt you shouldn't leave because you're representing your country, keep your nasty unkind comments to yourself.

Thanks so much. WHat low class that remark was. WOW

Z said...

i hate to be that unkind, but you really take the cake...

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Apparently it wasn't important enough for Ducky to remember, or perhaps the wholesale factual errors are meant to leave no doubt that Ducky is a leftist.

President Bush did puke on a foreign head of state - the Japanese Prime Minister - but was suffering from the flu during his visit, and probably shouldn't have been traveling while ill in the first place.
