"Summer time, summertime, sum sum summertime...."

It's SUMMER tomorrow! What's your FAVORITE THING ABOUT SUMMER?

My favorite thing about summer is the swimming pool. One can swim year round in an indoor pool, but I like to feel the sun on my back and face, so I rarely use the indoor pool.

My second favorite thing about summer is the sound of the night bugs.

It's freezing out here Z. Well, for us it's freezing, our winters are weak and feeble compared to yours, but it's serious for us ok. :)

I wish that I had a tongue like that when I'm eating Ice Cream...

Loading up a tent on a canoe and floating down the Black River, setting up a campsite on the river bank at sunset, sleeping in the great outdoors, breaking camp in the morning and floating down the river again.

Oh, and summer festival concerts.

Talk about Summer...Mr. Obama apparently loves to play golf, ...six times since June.
Wish the pressure presidents are under, that's understandable, I guess..I just heard him say that playing golf is the closest he feels to being "outside the bubble", which I can also understand.

What cracked me UP is that even liberal Nora O'Donnell from MSNBC just said "unlike President Bush who got criticized for playing golf in a crisis, President Obama has somehow escaped that scrutiny".

Do you think Nora asks herself "Gee, WHY?" naaaaa (Hint: the media, Norah....the MEDIA)

Faith, what happened to your comment?

My favorite thing about THIS summer (so far) is that it has not been as hot and muggy as previous summers.

So much for "global warming." Those liberal idiots really grate my nerves.

You want something to 'grate your nerves', Steve..check the link above out. A friend just sent it to me.
We're sleeping and our President, elected to "protect Islam around the world" isn't doing a thing against this.

A store in LA, VERY popular grocery store, is being threatened by muslims for carrying Israeli products. They carry TWO.
The store says 'they're not concerned'> NOT CONCERNED? is that the right reaction?
How about "We're carrying the products no matter who's against them; this is America, if you don't want to buy it, don't buy it" ?

I have a feeling this is going to be the "Summer of our discontent", folks.

And I'd planned a light hearted discussion about ice cream, warm nights, swimming in a lake and barbecues.

Definitely the swimming pool! I don't know how people live without one! When I was a kid in Phoenix, I swear we were the only people who didn't have one. Just yesterday I was lolling around the pool thinking how much I appreciate it.

Summer. I love it. Sunshine, Baseball, light colorful clothing, balmy evenings, flowering plants, BBQs, pool volleyball at my sister's house, yes, ice cream, ice cold lemonade, a sometimes summer rain, I have no one favorite thing about summer, I love everything about the season.

Now to a more serious subject. No matter what the season, we have alot on our collective plate to worry about.

At the end of the day, let's face it, the worries and concerns we confront today, are never far from our thoughts, and there are days, for me I know, when I can't keep them at bay.

Your article at the top today, is yet just another example of what we will have to contend with, and will threaten our country's survival. I'm afraid Z, there will be more than one summer of our discontent.

Sorry to be such a gloomy Gus on such a beautiful summer day in California.

Is that a picture of Rush Limbaugh's breakfast?

you know, Greybeard, I don't listen to Rush, but I'd say his breakfast is the one OF CHAMPIONS.

Thanks for coming by!

Your photo is evocative of ice cream on a hot summer's day. Sure we can eat it all year round, but it's never better than when it's hot.

Second, I can finally swim in my pool. Looking at my pool and not being formidable enough to brave the cold water makes me feel bad.

Third, my daughters are home more often than not. I know some like it when their kids are at school, but I'm in the minority. I love having my cubelets at home.

I can go on and on because summer is my favorite time of year because I love the heat.

For me summer means I will be in Mexico helping out wherever I can.

We too have some great ice cream down south, hand made and served with real fruit.

It is amazing. If you ever get the opportunity, try some Oaxacan ice cream.

You'll be pleased

I expunged my post because it was only a rant against my neighbors whose cigarette smoking drives me nuts during the summer. In the winter they do it inside behind closed windows and doors so it doesn't come into my place through the A/C and every other opening. Nothing very summerish in my tale.

Otherwise I don't really do much to have a summer life that's different from the winter. Sit outside late at night and listen to the crickets and look at the stars is about it. And be glad I don't have ice to worry about slipping on.

I hate to be the buzzkiller.

But Summer means nothing but FIRES to me.

Where I live, in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Enviro SHITHEADS have mandated over the years that NO trees could be logged or cleared for any reason.

With that in mind, my small town is surrounded with nothing but dead trees, deadfall, at least a FOOT of dead needles over the years. All courtesy of our local and state Enviro ASSHOLES.

You could never harvest for firewood or campfire wood. Oh no. Despite the fact that the BULK of the Fornicalia forests are PACKED with fallen trees.

Every summer: I fear for my HOUSE.

Yoga early morning in the front yard.

Stocking up on vitamin D.

Reaping the bounty from the toil our hands have wrought from our soil -- fresh tomatoes, beans (including a fabulous plump heirloom canellini that defies description), plums, figs, and raspberries!! After a winter of tangerines, lettuce, and fennel it's delightful to gorge on the enlarged tastes of summer.

Blueberries!! Picked 71 lbs. this month (not in our garden, alas).

NOT - the noise-niks who inflict all manner of sound pollution that gets such ugly amplification and duration in the summer it makes me long for winter storms that make 'em shut the window and take it off the street.

Hmmmm...

air conditioning??

heehee. Texas summers are brutal.
Well, depends on which part of TX you're in. It's humid here. Ick.

I like taking walks late at night and smelling the honeysuckle, hearing the Little League games going on late into the night, hearing coyotes howl at night, reading on a blanket in the front yard while the kids play, being the most pale person at the pool (!), eating a meal of all fresh veggies and a grilled meat, watermelon on the back porch.....

and then there's always the A/C.

I love hearing all your summer time favorite things!

Pris..I know how wonderful California can be in the summer and you ALMOST persuade me , but I'm SUCH a Fall girl!! :-)

Dave Miller, I am SO GLAD to see you here, thanks! Especially after I left that scathing "YOU THINK THE LAKERS AREN'T SPORTSMANLIKE? YOU ARE NUTS" first comment at your good blog!! Heh!! Truly..welcome.

Deborah, we must have missed our call for some of those blueberries! (Smile) Your garden is wonderful and I, too, love walking around in it.

Jen, baseball at night in the distance, the crack of the ball, the applause, the lights glowing in the distance over the field in the dark....Mom's got a park near her and, just over a rise, we hear that joyous summer sound...You are SO RIGHT!

XXX Summer in LA isn't a thunderstorm time, but ANY time it rains, I'm a VERY happy girl!
