Diane Sawyer's taking over..........and more morning show info

UPDATE: I just glanced through the Morning Shows and saw that the father of Bristol Palin's "Love Child" as they call the baby in the American media (nice if they referred to married peoples' children as love children, too) is talking about how the Palins didn't 'parent', that Sarah left her job because it was 'too hard' and there was 'bigger money to make', and Sarah had tried to adopt the baby so nobody'd know what had happened. All of this based on Levi Johnston's information, the guy who's suddenly written a book$$$, is posing for underwear ads, and otherwise getting tons of attention out of the clear blue sky. Harry Smith actually asked his sidekick after they aired the Johnston information "You have met Johnston before....do you think he's....CREDIBLE?" Harry, is this kid CREDIBLE? Will you stoop to this? Nice to hear the woman respond "Harry, I don't know....how can I answer that?" Shows a lot about HARRY (who seemed, at least, slightly embarrassed for having even asked) and a lot about her, sorry I don't watch the programs regularly and don't know her name. "Is he CREDIBLE?"...this young man who the media is making a star based on his notoriety for having knocked up Sarah Palin's daughter and is now satisfying their agenda by knocking Palin!? Sorry to be crude, but.........isn't this amazing?

Original Post:

So, Diane Sawyer's taking over the hot seat at ABC NEWS from Charlie Gibson.... did you hear about it? HERE is the article.
So, what do you think? Katie Couric or Diane Sawyer? Diane Sawyer or Katie Couric? There doesn't seem to be much question who most people would watch. Not to be too mean-spirited, but.....

It's an interesting business and it'll be fascinating to see what the ratings say in January when Sawyer takes over...... Your thoughts? (not that I watch either network anymore, but....)

There's a difference?

Well, Vegas, at least Sawyer seems to TRY to put on the unbiased air!! To watch Katie try to deliver news is just plain silly in my opinion...she tries so hard to overcome the perkiness in her (i've heard her say that) that she starts to get that pursed lip and glaring eye thing Olbermann does, to look REALLY SERIOUS.. come to think of it!

I think she's not untalented, I just think that marriage of her and nighttime news wasn't a good one; still, she IS there, so .... And BOY, does she bring in the bucks!

i always think of murphy brown when i watch diane sawyer - that seems to be whom she models herself after. or maybe it's the murphy brown writers who modeled the character after sawyer. art imitates life imitating art. hmmm, now THAT's something to think about.

Good point about Murphy Brown, Heidianne...I'd never thought of that!
And Katie's .........katie!

Katie Couric's presence trivializes news. The wow factor fizzled before she got the chair warm. At least Sawyer, a former Nixon aide, has some depth in the business and serious credentials. So, take your pick: cute and biased or serious and biased.

I'm sorry, but I get my hard news by watching The View.

Katie who? Diane who?

The networks figure that if they can get a woman on all three, the playing field will be level, the viewers will be confused and their ratings will be more competetive...low, but competititvely low. If I only had the two to choose from, I guess it would be Diane Sawyer, but whew!

I usually watch GMA, and I think Diane is fine, but all of them think teh oen is the cat's meow. As for the evening news, we usually watch FOX, but sometimes turn in to ABC for Charlie. Do any of them write their own script?

Diane Sawyer is hands down 100 times better than Katie Couric. How can you not like someone who worked for Richard Nixon, and then stood by him and continued to work for him for years after his resignation?

Not that I watch TV news or anything. Getting your news from television is like figuring out what the next five days' weather is going to be like based on five seconds of observation out the kitchen window.

Here's an interesting thought coming from somebody that is behind a lot of the news stories that are read to the masses — Zbigniew Brzezinski musing over the idea that today it's easier to kill a million people than it is to control them, while it was the opposite in the historical past. I'm pretty sure this story won't make the cut for the nightly news, although, IMO, it's newsworthy since it comes from a source that needs to be watched carefully.

While I have no use for Sawyer, I will give her one thing - she seems more of a hard news person than Couric. I always viewed this Couric thing as aa joke, kind of like an old Saturday Night live skit.
