And the leftwingers were OUTRAGED that "Republican presidents spoke, too!" As if they spoke with no criticism? Please read that and pass it around. Thanks Dr. Dave's blog (on my sidebar, you ought to check it out)
Here's their article about Obama's speech to American children tomorrow. The odd thing is Yahoo's homepage's headline and subtitle say this: CONTROVERSIAL SPEECH POSTED The White House releases a speech that has drawn fire even before the president will deliver it.
Oops! How could a speech draw fire before it's delivered? Doesn't that make critics sound ridiculous? Sure it does! There weren't even transcripts until today. There didn't seem to be any plans to release transcripts beforehand until America heard his plans and read the accompanying curriculum, either. The curriculum WAS released beforehand. Was it the idea that a president would speak to the children that got people worried? No, other presidents have done that and we trusted them. Of course, in trust could lie the problem. Or was it the curriculum, the fact that we want American children answering to their country instead of their leader? Remember, the children were to write to the president saying how they could help him. That's finally gone. It's still about how the president would like them to do this, or do that, but it's pretty encouraging.
Here is the TEXT. I thought this paragraph was a little agenda-driven : "You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy." It all sounds so good, but he gives a very different message when ADULTS read it and know that Obama's plans do NOT encourage doing very financially well after working hard in school because he'll be redistributing your hard-won dollars to those who didn't work hard (nice message, Mr. O!), or that there will be few dollars for research in curing diseases if the health care plan passes, and many of us know that the huge amounts he wants to spend on the environment (not taking into account many scientists who believe the biggest part of global change is cyclical and there isn't much humans can do about it) will break our economy, and we can't make our nation more free with the borders like they are and all our freedoms eroding and our CIA weakened by the horrid actions of his Attorney General...but IT SOUNDS GOOD :-) Children: BEWARE. Parents: TALK TO THE KIDS WHO HEAR THIS. I hope our kids DO well in school....not because Obama asked them to, but because their parents and teachers, those people close to them, encourage them, not the Wizard of Oz in front of the Greek columns, or on TV nearly every night, from THE GOVERNMENT. He even reminds the kids to 'wash your hands a lot' to avoid the flu.
By the way, for a guy who everybody on both sides of the aisle raves about regarding his amazing speech capabilities, I thought it's funny that the transcript includes "OBAMA: Hello, everyone — how's everybody doing today?......"
OH, by the way...........the picture at the top is an Obama rally at a PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL. That COULD be why we Conservatives have reason to have been just a TAD worried about this talk to our kids? Ya THINK?

I just wonder if that is the speech he planned to give before the outcry.
Some poor wonk spent his entire holiday weekend re-writing Obie's TelePrompterisms.
Shoprat, that's one of my points.
CNN just had a father on who said it was the curriculum that bothered him...Suzanne Malvaux must have asked four times, regardless of what he said, "is there anything wrong in encouraging children?" It's quite something.
This guy said "who knows what the speech was before critics finally complained about the curriculum, it got changed, and finally the transcript was released today when there were no plans to beforehand?"
Again, she ignores him and asks "IS there anything wrong in encouraging children?" See the inference? She doesn't CARE to hear what he says, she's all for Obama and presses and presses....
Robt Gibbs calls our criticism an "Animal House food fight".....?! WHAT? The level of discourse at ANY criticism of Obama's the thing that's getting 'silly', as Gibbs constantly puts things...not US
Hey, Steve...and imagine having to write an introduction like "How's everybody doing today?"! heh
And yes...I guess he had to miss the Union Picnic speech, huh? :-)
You're right....the WH says they don't normally release speeches beforehand...But, they didn't take into account the curriculum they DID release that waved the red flag.....I guess they'll be more careful about their indoctrination in the future; they showed their cards .
I think the speech is ok. It runs a little long and much of it will be over the heads of kindergarteners and the youngest students. They'll be squirming in their seats after the first five minutes.
He talks a little too much about himself, and campaigns a little towards the end: "I'm working hard to get you books, fixing up your school, etc......", but, all in all it's ok.
It's the lesson plan that bothers me. It's micro-managing the message. We don't know what's going to be in that do we?
I think if there hadn't been reservations raised, there would've been much more about service. Askng the children to serve.
This is what Obama bases his education agenda on. National service, which he said during the campaign, will be the core of his Presidency.
It will be vital for every parent to be vigilant.
Pris
I think it's okay, too, now, Pris.
The big question is 'was this the original speech'? And, of course, the points I highlight in my post...he got an agenda in. Subtle, but his.
I'm pretty sure Republican presidents haven't touched on the environment and AIDS and homelessness...I think that's a lot for the little ones, but IT DOES SINK IN!:-) He's very smart that way. This isn't all about encouraging kids to do well....!!
Yes, it's WAY too long for ANY age kid, you're right. But, I think he couldn't imagine kids not gazing in awe and wonder just listening to his dulcet tones and staring into his very earnest face, you know?
Just a slightly off-topic thought here...
Clinton and Bush both swayed somewhat with public opinion. For all of their critics, they somehow served two terms.
Obama seems to be flippant and arrogant about public opinion (unless it's in his favor). Gibbs and the secretary of education both made snooty remarks about the outcry over the speech. The opinion of the American people isn't ever 'silly'.
This may be Obama's undoing.
Wow! Great speech... What a pity my kids will miss it.
VERY proud that my county in the blue state of NC has said PUBLICLY...
IT WILL NOT SHOW OBAMA'S SPEECH UNTIL PARENTS AND TEACHERS VIEW IT FIRST!
Whatever it is that you are doing Z, and all of the conservative bloggers...KEEP DOING IT...KEEP PUSHING!!!! THE BLUE STATES HAVE YOUR EAR...JUST SPEAK THE TRUTH!!!
See you on the front my friend!!!
Z, I have no doubt this isn't all he wanted to say. I think you're right that the environment, homelessness and Aids snuck in there.
I think for little ones it would have to be hammered home. Like I said, I'm more concerned about the lesson plans and what the teachers will do with this.
I have a feeling this won't be relegated to the first day of school. It's a wonder these kids learn to read, write, and learn math, science, and history. Which is why they're supposed to be there in the first place.
God knows the children have seen him all over the TV all summer. I'm not sure they're not as sick of him as we are. You know, "Oh no, not him again"!
Pris
Here's a question: If everyone decides not to send their kids to school tomorrow and no one hears Obugger speak, does he exist?
If only...
Jen, it very well could be, but he's very popular still.....and, the way Robt Gibbs and the other Chicago/Harvard THUGS belittle the Right (and Americans hear this), it's kinda tough.
Look at how the msm is painting the Van Jones resignation (which happened in the mid of the night Sat. night! as FOX predicted.."middle of the weekend when nobody's paying attention, anyway"...they're now saying he didn't KNOW he'd signed a Truther petition and his leaving wasn't because he's an AVOWED COMMUNIST, it was just one big RIGHT WING PLOT to get OBAMA..and people BELIEVE THIS ..it's unbelievable And VERY POWERFUL.
Thanks ,Edge, but WE NEED YOU YOUNG GUYS TO SPEAK OUT (you get my email?)
Pris..kids don't get sick of someone, they GLOM ONTO a familiar face..YIKES
Dr. Dave, that KILLED ME!!!! GOOD ONE! SO GOOD.
G-Man, excellent, too
My commenters are so damned much smarter and more clever than I...:-) I LOVE IT~!!
I like Whitney Houston's version better.
I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me
I'm guessing Obama can't sing.
beamish..marvelous, except I've had to sing that song so often I can't barely look at those lyrics anymore :-)
Yes, our kids NEED HEROES...SO BADLY. And SO NOT OBAMA, SOME HERO.
I'm not convinced that the speech we've read today is the original one, Z--and I'm wondering if he could still try to sneak it in at the last minute? Anything's possible with that bunch, I'm afraid.
I still don't think that a baby in kindergarten is going to understand much of what he says, and to me, being told to wash my hands as a high schooler would be a little offensive. Maybe, it's just me, but the whole thing seems totally useless as far as motivating such a diverse age group--unless, of course, he is trying to put himself forth as "Daddy-O" to those without any parental guidance, and direction.
I'm rambling, I know, but I am so frustrated, knowing how some of the teachers will use this to further indoctrinate our kids into idolatry.
Call me crazy, but I don't trust any of it.
Honey
I don't know how all you racists can say he talks a lot about himself in this speech. He only used that one-letter word "I" 57 repeat 57!! times. That is hardly talking about himself is it? Ya, I guess it is.
As it is currently written, I have no major problem with the speech, but let's wait and see what transpires from here. A group pat on the back for the conservative backlash on the original speech and lesson plan. "What can you do for your president?" What an egotistical jerk! I say a point for our side on this one folks!
They say a stopped clock is right twice per day. This is not entirely true. The clock may be projecting the correct time at a given moment, but if it's a broken clock, it doesn't really mean it.
Conan O'Brien: President Obama plans to make a televised speech to the nation's students during school hours. Many Republicans are planning to keep their kids home from school in protest. As a result, those kids have voted Obama "Best President Ever."
The ultimate lesson of all the strident disrespect being shown the president may be that our children will feel encouraged to show manifest disrespect to anyone in authority, including parents. It may escalate not only the partisan wars but the generational wars.
Oops! How could a speech draw fire before it's delivered? Doesn't that make critics sound ridiculous?
-------------------
Yes.
Next question.
psi bond, Ducky.
If you don't get it, I'd keep quiet about it rather than quote heroes like Conan O'Brien ...
Ducky, you'd sound more intelligent if you at least read the post and comments.
thanks.
Here's an interesting tidbit: "The day after Bush spoke, the Washington Post published a front-page story suggesting the speech was carefully staged for the president's political benefit. ....The White House turned a Northwest Washington junior high classroom into a television studio and its students into props," the Post reported.......Democrats did not stop with words. Rep. William Ford, then chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate the cost and legality of Bush's appearance.....Lost in all the denouncing and investigating was the fact that Bush's speech itself, like Obama's today, was entirely unremarkable. "Block out the kids who think it's not cool to be smart," the president told students. "If someone goofs off today, are they cool? Are they still cool years from now, when they're stuck in a dead end job. Don't let peer pressure stand between you and your dreams."

My goodness...."Well, Republicans have done that, too!" (pout pout whine whine) Yes, they did, and BOY, did the Left castigate.
Dr Dave found and published that at his blog. Good thing we have conservative bloggers from whom to get the truth.
Don't get too excited, Obams the snake oil salesman won't give up that easily
There are tens of millions of people who just don't trust Obama. Perhaps it's because he lies so much. Crazy...I know.
The lesson plan that he distributed to teachers was the last straw. It's none of the president's business asking kids to be his servant. And it's none of his business pushing ANY curriculum on teachers. EVER.
And let's not forget Obama's connection with former terrorist and education radical, Bill Ayers.
"..Oops! How could a speech draw fire before it's delivered? Doesn't that make critics sound ridiculous? Yes.
Next question.."

Perhaps you are conveniently over-compartmentalizing things by thinking about this in the same way that Liberal minds "thought" (and I use the term loosely) about Strategic Missile Defense. It is better to render a weapon impotent before it does massive damage than to recognize that there is imminent danger and do nothing. Some of us choose to prevent catastrophes and some of us choose to Duck - and cover.
As I've said elsewhere, its hilarious how he preaches personal responsibility to these students while at the same time paying for their education with everyone else's money. Funny to hear all that talk about responsibility from a man who just got elected by telling all the poor "its not your fault".
There IS something wrong when a radical left wing nutjob encourages my children; I don't care how rosey or whiney the speech sounds, it still comes from his blue lips.
Teachers
Parents
Counselors
The President
Um, which one doesn't belong?
Last time I checked, the latter was a public servant, not one who advises children.
Well,
In the end after all was said and done, I think it turned out to be a fine speech.
Oh, Wordsmith...
Who cares about the speech? Please see my link at my newest post showing how Bush got treated when he went to only one school and talked to IT.
Also, Republicans were upset about the curriculum, not the speech.
thanks.
I get it, Z. The Republicans audaciously hope to be no different than the Democrats.
And, in your book, comedian Conan O'Brian has no class, alas. But how about the joke? You didn't laugh----hence, it wasn't funny. LOL
That explains the hysteria here.
ya, I guess it does.
I'm crushed .
