Bullock easily wins.
thanks, Ducky...I thought so, too. I couldn't figure out why they trashed her. The hair isn't too great, but the dress is lovely.
Oh no! Ducky and I AGREE again!
Joe, it hurts, doesn't it! :-)
the worst thing is that sometimes I think Ducky and some of us could go for coffee and maybe even have a fairly good time....
ruhroh.
Not even a BURKA could dim the beauty of these two exceptionally good-looking women, but the lady in BLACK is wearing a gown that is as distasteful as it is unnecessarily revealing. Bad lines of tawdry coppery trim work at cross purposes to one another.
It is a tribute to the lady, herself, that her innate loveliness transcends the poor taste of the dress she wears. She is beautiful IN SPITE of the dress, which is in fact a handicap.
The lady in purple wears a gown that has never gone out of style since early versions of it first appeared in the 1940's. It is classic, timeless, utterly feminine and full of grace.

Both are lovely ladies, but I wouldn't worry about the grade given by Hollywood critics. Both are gleaming examples of the Master Artist at work.
shoprat..no worries here as it pertains to what Hollywood says. But, I worry for our kids that people are actually comparing the dresses so well described by FT and finding decency and loveliness lacking.
FT...super post; well said.

Espresso and a chocolate cannoli maybe.
Ah, I would be so happy to be able to wear either one of them, but I agree, SB's is the best! Ya gotta admit, Hailey has a beautiful body from the top of her head down.
Oh, LINDA...Halley Berry is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, no doubt about it. I love that short hair, too!
Ducky...as long as that espresso has a little lemon rind on the side. And I can have an eclair.
I dissent! My love for sexy women in sexy dresses puts Halle Berry's dress on equal footing with Sandra Bullock's dress. At least in my book.
Those are two different approaches. Berry goes for sex appeal and Bullock goes for class.
Although the purple on Bullock's dress is a bit too much and Berry looks better with a little more hair (she still looks great though).
Can they trade dresses?
::running and ducking::
I'd give them both a "C."
Both women would look good in just about anything.
Z, this is fun. No I don't agree. Sandra Bullock wins hands down.
The woman is supposed to wear the dress, not the other way around.
They are both beautiful women no argument there.
FT, Exactly!
Freedomnow, Wait a minute! Who says you can't have both sex appeal AND class. Are you saying a woman has to be half naked to have sex appeal?
Pris
Espresso and a chocolate cannoli maybe.
ducky quit making passes at the other guests.
SB-classy...
HB-art-sy...
I like them both..
C-CS
freedomnow, I guess you have a point but the sexy thing is so blatant that it stops being sexy, in my humble opinion.
Of course,I'm a GIRL!! :-)
I LOVE Berry's short hair.....love it.
Pris, that dress does kind of WEAR Berry, doesn't it? You see THE DRESS and THE BOOBS not HER right away.
which reminds me: I had a Brit business partner whose wife considered herself well stacked; she used to tell me that when they were dating (he was a rock star, no kidding..kind of the B+ Level, and quite well known) she'd love to have his friends look at THOSE first.
I'd have died. I love sexy but that seemed so cheap, much as I hate to say so. AND, she wore a very low cut dress (in the late sixties) to meet her old fashioned inlaws the first time, too. I guess she wanted to REALLY impress the dad and TOTALLY turn off the mom?!!
i love sandra's dress. but i know i am partial because that purple is the same exact shade of my high school grad dress, which still hangs in my closet. halle's dress was a bad choice.
thanks for the correct spelling, namaste..I KNEW something was wrong!
A prom orchid corsage with that dress color would be gorgeous, huh? White with purple tinge? mmm
OK, things are heating up and its not just Halle Berry's fault (although she does share the blame with "W").
Just because I wrote that Berry goes for sex appeal and Bullock goes for class... doesnt mean that a woman cannot dress modestly and still be sexy.
The purpose of Berry's dress is to emphasize her feminine figure. You will note that the root of "sexy" is "sex". If a woman advertises her cleavage and figure then she is advertising her sex, hence she is emphasizing her sex appeal. That means she is trying to look sexy.
It is an entirely different point to say that such a display is vulgar, which it can be.
Perhaps John Yoo can assist Halle Berry on this point...
LOVE the structure of Sandra's dress, the fabric looks a bit cheap, though.
Halle's dress is unflattering, in my opinion. Leave something to the imagination.
OK Freedomnow, I asked Mr. Pris to take a look and give me his opinion. He chose Sandra Bullock's dress, Bless his heart.
To put this delicately, the suggestion of sex is inviting and seductive, the advertising of sex is just what it looks like, advertising.
Pris
Z,
Tough call about two of the most beautiful women in the country. They both would flatter trash bags I think.
Quite frankly, I don't like either one of those dresses. They do NOTHING for either woman. Clearly, their mothers tend to dress them funny.
BZ
well, Freedomnow, I guess I think something low cut is pretty, very pretty, but that Halle dress is so OUT THERE!
I'm personally a big fan of very high necklines in the front and the shocking VERY low plunging BACK neckline....open back, very pretty....especially on a very severe front. THAT is sexy, don't you think?
The less showing, the sexier, in my book. Looks like Jen shares my viewpoint.
I'd NEVER consider Bullcok's face beautiful, but I guess "chacun a son gout", huh? heh heh
okay, is this a trick question? You guys out there KNOW what I'm saying here...
Why can't we check a column that reads BOTH, and call it a night. A really LOOONG night! :-)
I can see why Halle got an A. I've always found Sandra bullock very irritating, but i'm sure it's just me.
"Espresso and a chocolate cannoli maybe."
I always thought of you as more of a soy-chai latte kind of gal.
This is what happens when there are nothing but gay men deciding what women look best.
I mean they don't want me to start picking the world sexiest men do they? thought not.
The World's Sexiest Man right now is SCOTT BROWN.
Believe it.
Jingo! So funny!!]
MK...I'm with you about Bullock in general...and not BEAUTIFUL, let's face it (not that that's so important, but she gets billed as beautiful sometimes and I wonder...she's certainly attractive, but...) psst! Ducky is a GUY!
Misfit: you're probably right about the voters for best dress, etc.
What the heck is the matter with these critics? Sandra Bullock looks absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous in that purple gown. And Halle Berry looks like a hooker, albeit a high-priced one, a total tramp. Sandra Bullock looks like a sexy lady. Less is more ladies.
Anon,
Brown would look awful in Berry's dress, but just imagine how bad Coakley would look!
Cheers
Hmm. I think Sandra Bullock is beautiful.
Ducky, you up for that espresso and cannoli now?
aww, come on! Let's celebrate!
By the way, chocolate cannoli sounds heavenly.
No. Nothing Sandra wears (or not) could ever be anything other than an A+.
Halle is beautiful but that dress makes her butt look big.
