mark o'connor Whitehouse Blues

This is some amazing stuff...I love Mark O'Connor's playing............I thought the title of the tune was appropriate :-)  UPDATE: I just played this twice, or tried to, and the video's sticking....go HERE if you'd like to hear it....sorry about the inconvenience.

The lyrics are actually about McKinley's assassination but you can well understand why I liked the title, anyway!
By the way, I hope some of you  saw the Clint Eastwood Jazz Concert at Carnegie Hall on TCM last night....there was the best sax playing I've ever heard...10 of the best all playing with a large orchestra.

Oh, by the way, if you listen to this video and your toe isn't tapping, I'd get a mirror and hold it under my nose, if I were you :-)
Enjoy!

Wish I had the version he came up with on the tour bus with Sam Bush, Alison Brown and a few others. It was during the Bush administration and they played it on WUMB. Hilarious, now lost apparently.

Anyway, this song will always be Charlie Poole's. There's a really vicious sarcasm in his version. Real Anthology of American Folk Music quality stuff.

I lost my musical snobbery when I was in my forties, having theretofore thought that only "classical" music was worthy.

Now my tastes are very, very ecclectic.

I loved that!

I especially loved the skills of the various instrumentalists.

Phenominal!

Joe, you should have seen the 10 saxes playing at Carnegie last night....jazz extraordinaire.

I love some opera, adore most classical music and sing sold standards with a jazz twist...and praise...go figure.

Actually, my German-born Mr. Z got me more into Country than I was...
Years ago, when THE BAND appeared (and my hero Leon Russell), I realized that really good bluegrass and country were wonderful ; Skaggs, O'Connor, etc...

Ya, pretty eclectic....musical snobbery is dumb; it robs one of a lot of great stuff. One doesn't have to like it all, but it's like eating broccoli; if you don't try it, how do you know you'll hate it!?

z, Germany's Bear Family label is the finest country music label in the world. Nothing close.

They should receive an award for saving so much traditional American music.

Ya, Ducky....Only Mr Z liked it in our German circle, as far as I know, but it's VERY popular there....It really surprised me the first few times. Of course, you also hear amazing classical music and you can get that here thru the 'net, too.
When he was alive, we'd listen while at our computers during the evening.
But country's big there.

Does that apply to non American music?

It's a good principle but my guess is it's America (or Britain) only.

does what have to do with non-American music?
I don't think in terms of music as American or not.

I don't know who Mark O'Conner is, but that's definitely Sam Bush on mandolin and vocals. I know. I've seen him in concert about 4 times.

yes, it's Sam Bush...Mark is the astonishing fiddler.
