Marriage Certificate; only for gays these days?

It's mostly my leftwing friends who live together without the benefits of marriage and do just fine and very frequently remind all of their friends that "WE DON'T NEED A PIECE OF PAPER for anything, particularly not to show OUR LOVE!"   (the piece of paper meaning the marriage certificate, of course)  So, roundly told off in ever-so delicate leftwing rhetoric, one slinks into the background as a dinosaur with a marriage certificate and licks one's old fashioned wounds :-)

On the other hand, it's these same leftwing friends who believe that "piece of paper" is highly necessary for gays.   "They should have that marriage certificate and all the rights!"   Why, if straights don't need it or want it in many cases, must gays have one?  I had two gay couple friends years ago  and they were perfectly happy living together, held no malice toward anyone, and didn't care about marriage at all.    They sure didn't seem to need that "piece of paper."
Which gays need it to 'show their love'?

hmmmmmmmm

Like straight folks, gays span the spectrum.

There are many, like you and I who value marriage as an institution and desire to publicly profess their love and devotion to another.

And then are those, like your friend, who will choose to not get married, preferring to live together.

Just because someone can get married, does mean they will. That reality is true for both gay and straight couples.

Dave, whatever..that all goes without saying.

Why do you think 1.4% of Americans are gay yet nearly 100% of newer TV shows and films have gay neighbors, gay family members, gay allusions, gay ex husbands, gay sisters, gay.......
astonishing. Think it's a coincidence? :-)

Every gay friend I have personally says this is about agenda; they remind me their community is the most promiscuous and most do not want to marry.
There are many millions of good people who feel marriage should be between a man and a woman, Dave, nobody's trying to break any couple up.

Their choice, not yours. Simple.

Z said...

No, it's not simple; why would we be talking about it if that was the case?
YOUR CHOICE isn't everyone's choice, Ducky.

please read the post and the comments.
If you don't see hypocrisy in the statements, you're not reading....that's what this post is about; i have no desire to get into the pros and cons of gay marriage vs civil unions, believe me.
And we won't.

Ducky, I deleted you to make you look less stupid. I'm trying.

F... er, I mean those who engage in abominable behavior need to just write their own Bible, go find an isolated island where their pathological celebrations of being a disease vector can not trasmit exotic diseases to the rest of the world, and go extinct trying to breed gerbils in their rectal cavities.

Ah dude..it's about equal rights in the partnership. Insurance, health care, etc. Heterosexuals receive them even if they are not married. Gays do not. Nice try.

And freedom from the type of filth beamish spouts.

Z said...

BD...could you do some research?
Yes, gays can go to a lawyer and get all the rights...link otherwise, please. I'm open, but this is what my gay friends tell me.

Um...you didn't think we didn't consider health care and insurance, etc., did you? :-) That's the whole point.

Bd said...

No Z, you're wrong. A gay couple living together for decades have no rights of shared ownership if one partner dies. The family of the deceased can take it away. And they do.

Bd said...

beamish, tell your partner to wear a condom. Opps...I think it's too late for you. Your brain has already been infected.

Z said...

Bd..ah, so if I died and had left in my will you get my property, you couldn't have it?

:-) Right.

I said "see a lawyer" quite clearly in my above comment. A lawyer can do health care proxy, inheritance bequeaths, you name it!

By the way, what do you mean "and do" ..REALLY? they DO? every single time!? :-)

thanks

Z, a gay partner dies with no will, and the partner of many years is left with nothing.

A gay partner is not family, and in many places, not permitted to visit a sick loved one in ICU wards.

A gay partner is not allowed to get on employee health insurance policies, while a non married heterosexual partner is.

These are just a few of the rights accorded others that are routinely gay people.

I do not deny that Hollywood has agendized the gay agenda... perhaps it is because they do not believe people should be able to discriminate against someone simply because they participate in a 100% legal behavior that they might find offensive;

And Beamish, thank you so much for your biblical expression of the call to consider others better than ourselves...

How so? My brain doesn't have me arguing that statistically likely carriers of disease should be treated as if they are not biological threats to the society they bring their disease vectoring behaviors to.

In fact, given the self-inflicted severe psychological failings that homosexuals such as yourself tend to foster in realization that you and your behavior are repulsive, unacceptable, and abnormal, my words are simply geared towards persuading more suicide attempts within your foul demographic.

Hey, I'm not the one making you destroy yourselves. I just wish you'd do it somewhere else.

Dave, All of us have to do things to accomodate differences in ourselves. Homosexuals need a lawyer's time. Done.

Is it so much trouble to get a lawyer? And yes, healthcare proxies are available and some situations do accord a gay partner health insurance.

You come here and sound as if you know more than we do because we disagree with you...it's a little odd.
Do you take it to mean that those of us who want to preserve marriage to stay between a man and woman should slink into the woodwork? We just don't get it? We hate homosexuals? Is that the problem for you? That's ridiculous.

So easy to ignore the opinions of others and just keep pitching, isn't it, particularly when you've got political correctness and the media behind you.

Z, it was your post that asked why, if straight people did not always need the "piece of paper" did gays want it?

I merely posited a possible answer to your question.

And yes Z, a gay person could get a lawyer, and many do, but like a lot of straight couples, sometimes a tragedy happens before that happens and then what happens?

Unlike a straight couple who is married, or lives in a "common law" marriage, they cannot visit their partner in the hospital.

Now I'd be all for legal civil unions to clear this kind of stuff up, but alas, many conservatives are against that.

I am sorry if I sound like I am a little more versed on this, but when you have close relative who had to threaten a hospital with legal action if they did not honor their pledge to let him act as power of atty for his partner after a massive stroke, you get educated.

He did have all his legal ducks in a row, all the papers filed, and lived in an area where gay people had legal standing. To no avail. The hospital told him to pound sand.

Do you think that would've happened to a straight couple?

Beamish, sorry but Jesus is pretty clear on how we should view people who use names to mock and deride others too. Look it up, you'll find it in Matthew.

Dave, my question was rhetorical because, in a majority of cases, they do not. And, of course, the hypocrisy is clear, is it not?

It is the Left who lives together and reminds us on TV and films they've written and starred in that marriage is unimportant, that the "piece of paper", as we hear so often, is jut that, a piece of paper, and they don't need it.
Then these very people fight to assure homosexuals that they can have that piece of paper, which has now become utterly and crucially important.

My comments stand: the gay friends I know tell ME it's agenda, that a vast majority of gays, the most promiscuous group going if you ask any gay man, don't usually want to marry.

Dave, you so beautifully illustrated my constant complaint that the Left can't allow anything to go wrong; that there has to be legislation, etc etc...when you ask "What if something goes wrong before the lawyer!?" My gosh! Bad things DO happen; we cannot legislate the world into perfection, believe it or not.

No, you don't sound better versed at all; I know many cases which were successful, so you're only relating your relative's situation. And it's hard to believe, isn't it, that all the legalities are done, but a hospital tells them 'no'...why? What purpose?

It's amazing how you victimize a group of people in your post then play the victim yourself when the facts are presented and your premise is destroyed with facts and reason. It happens every time and watching you and beamish turn on the spin is laughable.

Well....now I know what's wrong with our lil fiend , bd. Thanks for the diagnosis Mr. Beamish.

I'd use Paul's term for homosexuals, arsenokoitoi properly translated from Greek into English, but Z doesn't like it when I use the stomach-turning descriptions.

The reason there was a larger proportion of gay men getting AIDS when it first came out, was because unlike straight couples, who used protection for birth control purposes, gay couples were not aware of the need to protect themselves. On another note, what do y'all think about the fact that more states allow first cousins to marry, which has the potential for genetic problems, than same sex partners?
