Romney seeking employment....media on the alert

Mitt Romney to voters: ‘I’m also unemployed’

 by Holly Barry...for Yahoo!

It's a line that's sure to come back to haunt Mitt Romney.
At a campaign event in Florida today, the 2012 Republican frontrunner met with a group of unemployed workers who talked about their challenges looking for jobs in the struggling economy.
After they concluded, the former Massachusetts governor suggested he should tell his own "story," according to the New York Times' Jeff Zeleny.(another article's in that link)
"I'm also unemployed," Romney replied, with a smile.
The comment was clearly meant to hint jokingly at Romney's bid for the presidency, but it was also an odd statement coming from a candidate whose financial situation is so far removed from his audience's. A former head of Bain Capital, Romney is said to be worth at least $200 million—wealth that has enabled him to concentrate on running for president full time for the better part of the last five years.
But Romney's audience was in on the joke. According to Zeleny, the group "chuckled" along with Romney, with one man asking, "Are you on LinkedIn?"

Z: Are we really this sensitive now?  And do we allow leftwing columnists to set the mood and the tone?  Both Miss Barry or Mr Zeleny mentioned  how the crowd chuckled good naturedly with Romney at his comment about being unemployed but both imply this was problematic for him.    REALLY?  When the group there, in the context of the moment, didn't find it troublesome?  Isn't it a joke?  They know what employment he's seeking......they know he doesn't need a job.
We need to be careful when we read these things...........but, are most Americans?  I think not.

Romney was a venture capitalist, probably still is. That means he specialized in buying companies, stripping them of their assets and leaving them with massive debt and loss of jobs.

The American electorate, not known for brains, will be thrilled because he's a businessman who "knows how to create jobs".

Big train in the tunnel, folks.

There is nothing wrong with recognizing an opportunity and taking advantage of the situation.

People who worked for losing companies lost their jobs? What a surprising development this turns out to be. The problem is that these jobs would haved been eliminated, anyway.

The economy is improved by removing inefficient organizations. Those jobs that are lost in the process would have died, anyway. That's a hard fact.

In the world of economics, killing inefficient organizations is a good thing. It makes our nation more competitive and has a positive effect in creating jobs.

There's something perverse and disingenuous about a millionaire trying align himself with people who are actually suffering.

No Bob, most of what Romney did was illegal until legislation during the Clintoon administration.

So destroying a VIABLE company and pocketing the assets is a real positive in you little Ayn Rand la-la land, I suppose.

Fact is, this is the type of guy that got us into this mess. If he hasn't bled you like he has some of the folks here, it's coming. z and I are further up the food chain but gotta check the portfolio all the same.

Whenever I see the polls that say generic Republican leads Obama by 3%, I think "Is Romney generic enough for you?" I assume he'll get the nomination since he gets neither the left nor the right excited. And he has a presidential air about him.

Al Gore made the same joke in 2001 about being one of the job losses of the Bush administration. I found it kind of cute then. Now I find it banal. Inoffensive though.

Really...all of them are so completely and utterly out of touch with America. With 60% of them millionaires in the Senate and 40% in the House....how could they or would they even know what a goddam food stamp looks like?

We have...an Imperial government. Unconcerned with Americans true needs.

Really...it's time to burn the entire house of cards down.

Anybody who makes money any way is suspect to you, right?

Bob...well said.

Bd...he probably detests those people and is just mocking those lazy, no good, nothings :-)(yes, sarcasm) You know, you can't be rich and care about people. :-)
Well, I KNOW you can but this apparently goes against your religion.

He's not trying to align himself with them, he's trying to get this country out of the clutches of those who'll be borrowing until our great great grandchildren won't be able to ever get this country back on its feet.

Ducky, you resent the rich. So what? Romney smacks of everything you hate; that's obvious. White, clean cut, conservative, religious, happily married, upstanding kids, lots of money achieved through brilliant business moves. Who knows how much he gives to charity, too?
He probably doesn't even watch French films.

Mike...it is banal, but clever. Why not? The way the media twisted this is why I even blogged this whole thing.

Major; I disagree; I do think there are some not so rich and rich who give a LOT in charity and do want to straighten this country out.

I agree,it was a lame and innocuous attempt at humor. Just like Obama's innocuous comment on the bad jobs number last month, calling it a "bump in the road". Romney jumped all over it, making a web ad. So, expect Dems to jump all over this. It's politics, my dear.

As for Romney's business acumen, his work at Bain was as a job killer. In his term as Mass. gov., the state was 47th in job creation. He's running from the one successful thing he did, Romneycare, which brought the number of uninsured from 11% to 4.4%.

What will eventually bring him down are the purists in the Repub. party who, rightly, recognize him as an unprincipled flip flopper and the Christianists, who think Mormons are cultists.

Duck's criticism of someone who makes money is ironic in that Duck has boasted in the past as to how well heeled he is.

Of course, maybe he's not so well heeled, after all.

I got a call from the Romney "team" yesterday, and the fellow and I had quite a discussion, which included the fellow's frequent statement, "The only GOP candidate who can defeat Obama is Mitt Romney." If Mitt Romney does get the nomination (I think he will), then each and every word he utters will be up for grabs for ridicule by BHO.

Really guys? That's all you got to claim someone hates people who make money when they criticize a millionaire's arrogance. The shallow, narrow mindedness here is astounding.

And sorry Bush gave away our "grandchildren future" before he left office. Obama had to create the Stimulus to save this country from drowning. You all look silly standing in bread lines wearing your McCain 2012 T-Shirts if he hadn't won the election.

What is Obama's golf handicap anyway?

McCain 2012 shirts? Is he running again?

Obama saved the country from drowning? How? By raising unemployment from 6% to 10%? By raising the public debt to 90% of GDP? By turning General Motors into a perfume company?

Craig, I'm no big fan of Romney's...yet. I will be his biggest fan if he runs against Obama, believe me.
You're right on some of what you say; I also thought Obama got slaughtered for his 'joking' about not being shovel ready. He didn't even crack a smile but he got blamed for 'laughing about a serious subject'.
Now, I DO blame him for not having supposedly known that nothing was even remotely 'shovel ready' as he'd promised... and that all those jobs the stimulus was supposed to create didn't come to fruition. Except one or two signs I've seen, for example, on freeways in LA where almost nothing's being done but "THE STIMULUS PACKAGE HAS PAID FOR THIS" :-) Ya, I blame him for that because, though I'm conservative and hate government intervention, I had to change my mind around to hoping that LOTS of people would find work immediately after all that money was borrowed. I hoped that would encourage something bigger...so far...not much.

AOW...he'll be ANNIHILATED the minute he wins the nomination...which, frankly, I hope he does not.
They'll be going through his kitchen garbage, every email, every single thing that he ever said or did. I WISH they'd done that with Obama! Maybe even libs would have awakened to the lies.
Heck, if they'd only read "his" BOOKS like most of us had! :-)

Beamish....Bush will be blamed FOREVER. THey've got no other way to deflect.

BD, you're deleted again. Your hatefulness is beyond the pale. Please read my sidebar rules.

I keep asking you why you come here? WHat attracts you so regularly? What kind of person does this? You're a sad little human being, that's for sure.

YOu actually believe what you spout, that's scary.

This is how it works. If a republican says it, it will kill him or her in the short run.

If a democrat says it, the press
will contort themselves to provide a loving, comfortable pillow in which they can cling to until they can't possibly cling anymore.

well described, Cube..thanks.
and thanks for your prayers for my friend, too.

Ducky: you need to be specific about your allegations. There is no law against buying a company, selling the assets, and shutting it down.

Nor is there a law against selling assets of any company. It happens every day.

Do you remember Carl Icahn and other "green mail" operators? Even what they did was legal, but I don't remember Romney being involved in a Greenmail operation.

Where are you getting your information? Be specific about the Clinton era legislation, please.

MY hatefulness? You've read beamish's comments about a post I made of a family member dying in the "Pawlenty.............in Thomas Sowell's opinion" thread? Gimme a break.

You speak of Christian values and then allow this piece of trash say things like:

"Yes. It's a tragedy that I can't watch your family member die on YouTube with popcorn."

Oh, I forgot. He's your 'friend.'

Z said...

I can't find your family member comment, and if Beamish said that, he was wrong. I just took the time to look, too....post it here again if you want to.

And yes, Beamish is a friend. As I've said; you have never, for a split second, shown the slightest civility or willingness to stretch your mind. I find that sad.
People get as they give here.

And you might hate this blog and find us sorely lacking in Christian love, but ..two things:

-your opinion about our faith isn't important to anybody here...and, if you're a Christian, you know nobody's perfect and that's not the prerequisite. SOmetimes we ALL slip.

-you spend more time than most here and complain the loudest. WHat's that about?

You guys go on and on about the 'elitist left,' but Mitt is quite the elitist in his comment.

Z said...

Bd. you hate the right, we get it.
why do you insist on being here so often?

Bob said...

Bd: I'm with you, buddy. We simply cannot let the elites take over without a fight. What we need is an anti-elite army of elite bloggers. We gotta beat them at their own game.

We can destroy all the elitist bastards, left and right, and replace them with our own straight-up (or, gay if you wish) elite society of our own. No more of that left and right stuff.

What I said wasn't hateful. Your family member didn't die because I didn't cover their medical expenses. They died because you didn't cover their medical expenses.

Keep you guilt to yourself, loser.

He should run on a democratic platform. If ducky boy is right, then he'll be the perfect leftard, stripping companies of assets and leaving people destitute.

isn't that democrat 101, before moving onto stripping whole nations and leaving the citizens destitute.
